Should you eat before exercise in the morning?

i used to do a workout before breakfast, then one at night... before breakfast i had the problem of just not having the energy to keep at it... but after breakfast there was always something to do, and i never had the time..(and other continuous excuses..). i think i hated morning workouts...

which do you like better?? before or after breakfast? the only way it works is if you work out....

perdsonally i dont excercise in the morning. not a morning person. neither do i eat after i wake up, doing anything soon after waking up makes me feel sick. i tend to wait for an hour or so then have breakfast

as for excercise i work out at night going for walks and such. also when i go out to a party i dance all night so i work best at night. but all i can say is you should eat. sugar crashes are bad. but make sure you give enough time for your food to settle!

i always eat before the gym, as i ussually end up going stright from there into a full day of classes. i also suffer from hypoglycemic attacks way more frequently than i should considering i dont have diabetes and dont eat a lot of meat so i try to get my protein in in the morning to get me trhough the day. i usually go for a peice of short cut bacon, with the fat off grilled and a tomato grilled on multigrain or low gi white bread (depends hat we have in the cupboard) i find its stopped me having attacks and i get less hungry throughout the day :)

Yes, in order to have effective results, you must eat oats or some cereals and keep a gap of about 30 minutes before you start your workout. The best would be having a protein shake, it works well for me.

This is really dependent on the individual. I know for myself that if I didn't eat before doing activity in the morning, I'd probably pass out or at least feel really crappy for a while. But I also have to eat at least an hour before exercise, or my stomach just feels way too uncomfortable. Each person needs to figure out what works for them.

Hey i don't know about others. But i am a health adviser and i do go gym in morning last 5 years . Everyday before going gym i have some banana and some egg, then in gym i have some protein shake. And i have a good phisque with good health.

@Patty...I dont like porridge and cereal, growing up they were never my things...but I will take your advise about the granola bar b4 my morning exercise and the high fibre cereal after...thanks

There are pre work out meals and post work out meals recommended when working out. Pre work out meals will help you keep your energy up while doing the physical routine. Try these "slow-burning" complex carbs: banana, oatmeal and yogurt. While post work out meals will help your body replenish the energy lost and repair muscle tissue. Try these foods: fish or chicken, egg whites and fruit smoothie.

Hi, Actually what I've been told when I did boot camp with a trainer is that you should eat before you exercise but also you should eat when your finish like a small snack. So the answer would be both. It could be a smal meal before you work out.

Everything here is true. if your really dedicated to blasting fat off in the morning to jump start your day, try drink a protein shake just mixed with water. it should hold up decently therefore you dont burn through your muscle instead of fat.

you dont want a banna because, yes its a druit, but it contain to many simple carbohydrates. and plus high amounts of sugar. This will shed energy because of an insulin spike during your workout. Im a pretty moderate-intense lifter, so ive experienced with all sorts of foods/supplents. BUT! bannas right after a good workout is a must! you want a small amount fo simple carbs post workout to refuel your muscles right away. Aswell as any other supplements you might be taqking. post work out your body is prime and therefore reacts to all intake much faster/better.

You should definitely eat something in the mornig before you exercise.

Even if you just eat a yogurt and a piece of fruit and an absolute must is water!
