*Serious* Running Music Thread

The extended theme music from Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Nerf Herder is a 2.3 minute high intensity interval training; it has a good pace with some moments of speed.

Trance and techno are my other favorites for training. Like the Novacane remix of "Lord Of the Rings" or some other theme song-remixes keep the mood and pace up.

Personally, I really have to listened to something that is mixed...the pauses in music otherwise really get me out of sync. But, then again, I have been listening to mixed music for years and rarely listen to much else so...

It depends on what mood I'm in. Most of the time I like to hear hard rock, Filter, Primer 55, Static X, Vision of Disorder, etc. Sometimes I throw back to the 80's and play faster paced music from that decade. Once in awhile I hit the techno scene and fly to the beat of the music. Then there are those rare occasions where I just want to relax and pace myself to some Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Its funny how music you like to listen to isn't always good for cardio/running. I recently bought the new Coldplay album (excellent album btw) but, useless for excercise, far too mellow! My current favourite album is the black eyed peas new one - nice and loud, good rythm and really catchy.

I'm gonna put 'Eye of the Tiger' on my ipod before I go to the gym tonight - excellent idea! lol

Depends How I feel, but has to be fast-paced...

Most of the time I'll put on electronic, techno, trance, house, name it..

My playlist also contains some movie tracks that fits with working out, such as "eye of the Tiger", like somebody mentionned, or some of the tracks from Bloodsport, another one of my favorite movie, precisely the ones that play when the fighters are training or fighting..

And lastly If I really feel agressive and have a lot of energy to burn I put on some metal/industrial.. Rammstein and the likes..

BTW solafide55 just noticed your sig, looks a lot like me, just before the holidays I was around 205 too and feeling sluggish and depressed, plus my self-esteem was pretty low.. Since then I lost about 10 pounds, I am doing everything to keep it up cause I'm tired of playing yo-yo with my weight, and just dont wanna go there again.. one has all the reasons in the world to work-out. My goal is 170 tough, 160 is a bit too skinny for my heigh :p

i like metal and punk, and it is great for the gym. especially rhythmic stuff that keeps my legs pumping. helmet, death by stereo, snfu, slipknot, and 59 times the pain are just a few of the bands on my player.

I've got ym ipod mini loaded up with 2 gig of various different tracks, usually when im warming up, I listen to hiphop, then half way into my run I tend to turn to the faster stuff, mostly old school prodigy.... enough to keep anyone running!

I forgot to mention Tool, what was I thinking. It's rock, yet smooth, yet rough at times. It takes me all over the map in terms of my workout, from constant smooth motion, to crazy maniac trying to break the eliptical with my bare hands. The best part is 4-5 Tool songs take up almost 30 minutes. I blink my eyes and i'm done.

Thought I'd throw in my two cents. I think Rob Zombie (Hellbilly deluxe) and old White Zombie would work well with the fast metal and techno elements. Also the theme song from Batman Beyond. But this is untested because I am going to buy an mp3 player today, so I'll let everyone knowif it does work.

I have to give a shout out to Eye of the Tiger as well. Gwen Stefani's new album has a great uptempo beat for running...Madonna's new CD is a good one too.

I have to agree with DeX on the music/pace theory. I can't run to the slower Coldplay songs.

I got really hyped tonight when Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly came on. Also I had to put Eye of The Tiger on there and I had to speed up for it, they both just make you wanna go faster.
