RJAJR's Journal-"It is Time"

May 3rd is the first of my four tests this year. 1/2 marathon in Pittsburgh. I read some time ago that "if you don't write it down, it never happened". So starting April 1 I will begin my daily journal to keep me focused and honest. Any questions, suggestions or rude comments are always greatly appreciated.

getting bike tweaked, new tires, new stem so it will be ready for 159 miler June 6-7. will start bike training May 6th. Ordered wetsuit for August triathlon.

What kind of bike do you have? How long is the triathlon and where is it? Are you sure it will be wetsuit legal in August?

Triathlon

I have a trek 7.2 hybrid which i have tweaked a bit (actually i am going to post some picks soon). This will be my first tri, it is olympic length August 9th in Morgantown West Virginia. After the 1/2 marathon on May 3rd in Pittsburgh i will be toning up my biking for the MS 150 June 6 and 7. Then strict tri routine til August. After the tri, i am doing the Marine Corps Marathon in DC October 25. I hope you don't mind if i pick your brain abit when i move into tri mode.

The Marine Corps Marathon is one of only 3 marathons that are on my bucket list, along with New York and, gasp, Boston. The Marines give out coins for a job well done (I guess that is a Marine tradition.

Keep at that smoke-free thing and don't ever let your guard down.

Marine Corps Marathon

It is such an event. I did the 10k last year, i felt like I could have run forever. Beautiful course, managed by the greatest group of patriots i have ever witnessed. Last year my 6 year old did the 1 mile fun run, no one and i mean no one is allowed on that course but the kids and the marines (the best baby-sitters on earth). It rained during the last heat last year, there was a young boy in a wheel chair being pushed around the course by a marine when the downpour started. He was the only one left, 30 marines ran out on the course and ran along side him to the finish. there was not a dry eye in the place.

logged 3 miles last night in the rain and felt good. Friday i will rest and pickup my packet.
Number assigned is 5424. Saturday a short 20 minute run to keep the rust off. Weather report shows rain for the race. good thing i have a lot of training runs in the rain.

One down and 3 to go

Successfully finished the Pittsburgh Half Marathon today with a time of 2:38.54. Felt great afterwards, now a couple of days off and start the biking training for the MS 150 June 6-7.

logged 4 hours in the saddle bike ride, overall distance 48 miles with some steep hill work. a good turnup getting back my gearing skills.
