rip look or bulky look?

I think a man of 6' tall should weigh any where from 185-215 ( big swing i know but.. the world would be dull if everyone looed the same. my goal will be 200 and lean with proportionate arms, chest, back and ripped abs. and legs for quick running Receiver like T.O.

I have to agree w/ Tic on the male gymnasts, if they had a little more leg definition I would really like it. :D I love muscle definiton, but they have to actually have some muscles, the skinny ripped look is discusting to me.

I dont get how you say he looks disgusting.

People are entitled to their "opinion" that this physique type is disgusting, but it doesn't in fact make it so for others.

BL's physique was in line with his martial arts training. Additionally, this little man would be so fast and powerful (when alive, ha, ha :)), he would take a huge power lifter or a big bber, and plant his foot so far up their @ss, the foot would pop out the top of their skull and slap their face. And, besides BL, they are many who fall in this category.

So much for being big. ;) :)

Best wishes,

Chillen

Good decent size ripped,

Personally I like the idea of being abit bigger than the picture Wes posted, with the same kind of definition.

All in the future I guess :)

are you somehow suggesting by putting opinion in "" that people who have this opinion don't have an opinion but something they think is an opinion? I'm just confused as to why you chose to put opinion in ""..

Funny.....I've seen some chicks at the gym who have dieted their way to being string-beans. They can wear clothes and layer stuff to look pretty well built...but throw them in a bikini or shapely one-piece and there's just something missing.

I've now got a 52-inch chest that's pretty tight and flab-free, totally got that triangle shape going...but IMO I look like a short-stacked strong-man. At the same time, some guy in my spin-class is like 6' 2" and he's just tall and lenky...looks like a basketball player who stopped eating for a month. He lifts weights and does everything he can to put on muscle...but no matter what happens, he just looks tall and svelte. He's cut, but he's just lean-built. He'll never look like me and I'll never look like him.

I suppose my point is that you have to assess what body-type you have and do what you can to make the most of it. Some meat/muscle, but not too much. Some cut & definition, but not all cut-up with micro-thin skin. It's all a personal matter of taste & preference.

Bruce Lee was certainly lean & tight....great for throwing your body around and doing all those insane kicks and moves, and I'm sure he was really fast too. As for power & strength....let's not pretend you can't gain some things without compromising others. I look at the picture and say "feed that cat".

Haha, I've just agreed with one of your posts and now I'm gonna disagree with the next ;)

This whole idea that we have pre-set body types that we're helpless to change is utter bollocks. About 3 years ago I was about 160lbs @ 6'2" and skinny as ****; had been all my life and thought that no matter what I did I would always be skinny. 2 years later I was 235lbs, I did it by simply working out maintenance calories and then eating well above that.

My Girlfriend on the other hand had the idea that she couldn't be thin and she was pre-set to be a bulky size. I told her that was BS so she put me in charge of her diet and fitness programme. Under 1 month gone and she's 11lbs down and doing 20 rep squat routines that would put a lot of men to shame.

Your body will always respond to the stimulus you provide it with and we are all surprisingly similar in the way we respond to diet and training. IMO the people who can't change their body shape/composition are either very poorly informed or have no idea what hard work is.

The problem comes when people get their dietary knowledge from TV doctors and health magazines. Both have an incentive to peddle quick and easy answers that people want to hear. The truth though is very boring and simple so won't sell many books and therefore not suitable for the Oprah show or Mens Health.

As for Bruce Lee; yeah, of course he had a great physique, a little too skinny for my liking but he obviously put a lot of work into his training.
I'm guilty of spreading a little hate his way sometimes but to be honest that's more aimed at the idiots who idolize him and come out with **** like his one inch punch throwing guys across the room or how he could do standing jumps over houses and all that bollocks.

Ty,

Actually, I have to agree with you here....we can alter parameters and the body absolutely does respond to stimulus we provide, but there are some limitations (obviously). My waist is still about 36-38 and when you press your hand against my side, you can feel the bone underneath about 1/4-inch of tissue. Unless my thigh bones shrink, there's never going to be anything less then a 34-inch waist. Similar with my chest, I'm just wide-built (I jokingly say I'm built to replace the ox when it keels over from exhaustion in the field). And that guy in my spin-class probably has a 28-inch waist and I just can't see him ever getting big. He swears he moves weights, pounds nutrition and his body just doesn't want to budge.

But I still like your outlook and personal account of what you've been able to accomplish. I suppose I've just heard too many people tell me that I'm just not built "that way" and I have to accept my body and understand I can tweak things a bit, but it is what it is.

Perhaps it's just that some people can change with relatively moderate effort and others, like myself, need what seems like an insurmountable amount of dedication & energy. Personally, I can't believe how much I workout and low my calories are....and yet each milli-ounce of fat clings to me unless I pry it off with the force of an atom bomb. Or something like that ;)

I don't buy that for one second, the idea that people are predestined to be a certain bodytype. Anyone can eat/exercise their way up or down.

i think its pretty important to watch the body fat level, and not let it get out of control. performance can really be cut down because of extra excess weight that you dont need weighing you down.

Obviously bone structure can't be changed and some people find it harder than others to get to advanced levels like sub10% BF but my point was aimed more at people who are very skinny and claim they 'can't' gain weight or the very fat who say they're just made that way. Getting out of that situation just requires a little education

And with your 36-38" waist? There's nothing wrong with looking a bit beefy ;)

so which one do u prefer ?
i personally like ripped look , but not bruce lee style... that just looks disgusting

Depends, if you wanna look big, bulky, if you wanna be a fighter ripped, if you wanna be the best fighter in the world, aim for bruce lees "disgusting" look, anyone able to apreciate what bruce achieved would not see his body as disgusting.

me personally ripped as (which i have achieved) i am aiming for the bruce lee ultimate power body, lil bit of work to go tho lol :)

I don't think what Bruce Lee achieved had much to do with his looks. He was wicked strong for his size. His muscles don't look strong at all, but they were. If you aim to look like Bruce Lee I think that most likely you will end up scrawny and not so strong. Though if you train right, for speed and strength, you might end up a good fighter, but that doesn't mean you will look like Bruce Lee.

Bulking or powerlifting is not an excuse to eat everything on sight and get a pot-belly. Otherwise everyone out of shape will just be saying "Hey, I'm a fat powerlifter".:yelrotflmao:
