Regarding banning people with links in their signatures.

You brought it up mods, now you need to be more susinct. You banned Sarafitchick because she had a link to her site in her signature.

There are many more who do the same, yet they continue to post. Why was she singled out?

If SFC had simply wandered in one day and started posting purely about her site, I could understand, but she did add valuable content.

I'm not standing up for her, but the rules must either be applied across the board, to everyone and anyone to be fair or there needs to be a better explaination than she posted a link to her site. This reeks of elitism, where the allowed have no more credentials than the diallowed, but rather they have the favor of the mods.

Ya need to be fair about it.

But I'll also be fair and say I didn't look too long and hard at her site. She didn't have the credentials in the fitness field that would, IMO, make her a person I would listen to. She someone who simply got results from what she did for herself and started marketing it.

Yes she was a good poster, but thats not the point.

NO1 has links in there sigs now, but they may have web addresses.

She was posting a link (clicky link, not web address) in every one of her posts, even when it was not relivant to the topic. All her links were erased and her posts left unchanged.

Her site had no information, it was just a shop to buy her service for $80.

She was warned and told to stop, but didnt.

She is only banned for one week.

We did not single her out, we are deleting all links to shops.
If anyone else does the same thing we will ban them to.

Please be aware that we are doing this to ensure the safety of all our members and the fitness forums.

Nobody minds you posting web addresses, as long as it is relivant to the topic and is not over-used.

Wait so no links in sigs or no links in threads? Just curious cause alot of people have links in their sigs (clicky ones) still.

No links to store personal store fronts.

I can't see the mods having a problem if I/we post a link to a store where we get our supps.

the mods still have clicky links.
1) they've earned the right to have "special" priviledges
2) they have good websites (or funny spam ones) that i don't mind linking too. Call it elitism, if you like, but it's more of a "thank you" from me for the great job that they are doing. The forum would not run without them.

... as far as others go, please feel free to report them and we will review them. It is definately possible with 300+ posts a day to miss some.

Then let us know if people are abusing the forum.

You dont always need to do a clicky link. Just type the address so people can paste it into their address bar.;)

This may seem unfair at 1st  , but its really going to help clean up the forums and help every one get the correct information to improve their bodies.

It also makes those annoying spammers stand out like a sore thumb!!!!:D

Isolationism was the bane of Asia for hundreds of years. Are you willing for us to be completely cut off from the rest of the internet only for the internet to oneday break in and colonize us?

Well I certainly don't have a problem, I was always urked by the people that would come here shelling out advice and sticking their links all over the place and acting like just cause they have a site, it means that they were some fitness guru. Its a bold move, but i think in the end a good one. It's too delicate of a subject to allow people to persude some who have no idea of how to seperate the good from the bad. That's why most come in the first place.

I also don't think its so much an elitism thing but a knowledge/effort issue. LV for example has put endless hours into helping people achieve their goals around here and elsewhere. So with all that work I think to have a click link in his signature is least amount of respect that can be paid. If a non mod put in that kind of effort to, I don't think they would have any problem doing that as well for them.

Just my opinion.

I just noticed they removed a link to a collection of articles and workouts I and a couple other compiled. No money required, all free.

Hmmmm...

I know the door swings both ways.

i don't recall doing that myself, but that may happen as we get over-zealous ... not all links are intended to disappear, but if it looks like self promotion, it's gone without question. There will be some mistakes, i'm sure, but the intentions are good.

It's very obvious who is here to contribute to the site and who is here to gain traffic/profit for their website. Yes, I have my link in my sig however I have helped hundreds of people on this site and did not receive a penny for it.

I also think if people are posting links to the supplements they take, training routines they are on, diets, etc....that this should be left alone as this will give us a way to critique without having to do all the research. We are intelligent people and can determine whether or not a link is promoting a site or not. Most people who do this are only trying to get advice on what they are taking and it saves us time looking it up on our own.

In the SFC issue, I have my own opinion on it but that is not to be discolsed on an open forum as at the end of the day it comes down to what Sean requests as this is his board. I will say that I do not think she was singled out at all as this was a global request from the boss man.

Yeah good point. In fact, i didn't even know about links in signitures being banned until sara got banned and yes it wasn't fair but she only got banned for a week, i'm sure she'll live. But, if we're not allowed links in sigs than shouldn't this rule apply to EVERYONE?

Nope.......

And it's not about links in sigs, you can still have those. Given it won't be a link, just text, but still.

It's about including a like in more than 1/2 of your posts, to the same site.

I don't understand why this is still a discussion. Asking why this isn't applied to everyone with the whole link in sig deal is like saying why can't I as a registered user can't ban people. Based on the facts.. that all the information on this website, and all the advice that comes from the mods esp, that is as accurate information as you can get it free I will have no room to complain how a site that I do not own.. is to be run. This site has accumulated information that would round up to a cost if we were to use a personal trainer, nutrionist well over the thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands.

Seriously instead of

http://www.fitness.com

We must put

www,fitness,com

Is this so much to ask for? Lets not take for granted what we have going on for ourselves here. Thats ahem. FREE. Good day. I said good day!:D

So...this just includes links in sigs? Because on more than a few occasions when I have been helping people with the things I know, I have provided links to lifting forms and such so that they will do it right. Are those types still accepted? (yes they are clicky)

Yeah bro.. links that are directly related to your own personal address.. whether it be for equipment or supps is prohibited. Including those that are for promotion purposes. Links that are used to describe what you are saying.. some specific as in a workout form.. exercise.. or someone may be describing a supp they use and leave a link to it is allowed. You are able to use clicky links for only those type. As for your sig, you can only use text links.. not clicky links.

Im glad we are starting to get some support from the regulars.

Thanks guys
