Raising The Bar

I was a bit complacent on the very first rep of my deadlifts and it almost didn't go up! Now that would have been embarrassing

Deadlifts
6x3 @ 308lbs

BB Row
6x3 @ 132lbs

Pullups
1x3 @ BW-15kg
5x3 @ BW-10kg

Good Mornings
2x10 @ 132lbs

Medicine Ball Reverse Lunge
1x10 (each leg)

Keep up the good work!
And don't worry about the arm size. It always feels like that when you're cutting. That's why a lot of big guys give up, because it feels like you lose so much size, but in reality you don't. Also, once you pass around the 10% bf mark, and start getting really lean, you will look bigger because of the definition ;)

I see your deadlift workout with sets of 6. Is it that heavy for you or is that the idea? I need to work out on this a few times so I can up my deadlift max. currently my max is 315-- yeah baby 3 plates on each side-- heeeeman!! But- I could barely get that bad boy up once.

What weight should I use to work out with?

shoot me a pm so we don't junk up your journal. I will come back and delete this if you want--- FF

Lol, no need to delete anything, I like it when people post, it shows that people actually read the damn thing.

With regards to deadlift weight, the last max I recorded was 385lbs but I was 7 lbs heavier then so my max might have temporarily dropped while my energy levels are low. I don't know what percentage of that 308lbs is but I'm finding 6 sets of 3 manageable at that level

I've found that my deadlift max goes up fastest when I train nearer my 1RM but higher reps can be good to re-enforce correct form

And Karky - Thanks, that's kind of what I'm aiming for, 10-12%bf and I'll start to look really lean I think. I measured my arms last night and my biceps are still 16.5" flexed so maybe a bit of this reduction in size I see is just a bit of fat loss

Here's a question - Has anyone ever had their stretchmarks tear? I have one on my left armpit that's got so big it's gone a really dark colour and looks so thin it could break at any moment, I thought these things were supposed to go white after a while? I've had these about 9 months and on the whole they're getting worse

HA, been down that road. I have not heard of them tearing. So I would not worry about that.

I got them on my chest and lats, they are bright red in the beginning. (that was about 10 years ago for me) I can't remember how long they stayed that way. I know it was 3 or 5 years or so.

But now they are white and hardly noticeable. (I am also 40lbs under my largest size ever, so my skin is not under the "stress" it has been in the past)

In a recent article I read by Mike Robertson, he said, "If you want to pull heavy singles in competition, you have to pull heavy singles in practice." Now you're not in a PL competition but I think you get the idea.

No joke - I'm still feeling very delicate right now, my arms and legs are shaking like crazy and I still feel light headed and a little sick. I didn't realise how out of practice I was with the high rep stuff

*BB Chest Press
12 x 143lbs
12 x 154lbs
11 x 154lbs

*DB Shoulder Press
8 x 44
10 x 35
10 x 31

(I'll start lower on the SP next time)

* Performed as set

Squats
3x12 @ 220lbs

(F*cking killed, I hate high rep squats, I think a doctor would have told me to stop after 8 on the last set :))

*Overhead shrug
2x10 @ 99lbs

*Tricep Press down
15x154
12x154

Front Split Squats
12x99lbs each leg

As much as that session killed me, I absolutely loved it. And to top it off I'm sure I saw the female instructor checking out my arse while squatting :D (either that or she was looking at a big sweat patch)

I just remembered, while in the gym this guy comes over to me and says 'hi Rich' so I just say 'hi, how are you?' and then I realise I have no idea who he is. What are you supposed to do in these situations?
I bumbed into him after the squats so my brain was scrambled but I still can't imagine who it could have been!

If someone knows me and I have no idea how, I sometimes try to talk to the person long enough to figure it out. Definitely takes some finesse to talk without letting on you have no idea, though.

Deadlifts
3x12 @ 220lbs

Found this much easier than last week, might try a little weight increase next week

Cable Rows
3x12 @ 169lbs

Lat Pull Downs
12 x 158
2x12@ 141

Weight went down on last week but I changed the exercise order so the pull downs were third in curcuit instead of second

Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts
2x10 @ 77lbs

Weight is easy but balance is really hard so I'm gradually up the weight

Bicep Curls
12x66lbs
15x53 (biceps died completely by this point)

for the SLRDLs do you hold a DB in one hand, or one in each?
They are awsome! Just remember to not let your femur cave inwards. Push your knee out if that happens (it's pretty normal, I found out I've been doing it on all my single leg lifts, when I started working against it, my glutes got a much better workout :D )

I use a barbell, should it be done with DB's? I found it pretty hard to find two online tutorials that show it done it the same way

Not a good day! Pretty angry about it; dieting sucks!

On my DB chest press today I failed on the second rep of my 5th set with 176lbs, that's a very obvious loss of strength. I'm too pissed off to post my whole session but in summary, I think my over head pressing is improving (vertical dicks on horizontal pressing anyway) and my squating is more comfortable now, I think I'd beat my squating PB if I tried

Oh, and I split my shorts while cleaning on the overhead press, my gf is gonna kill me, I get through shorts and trousers so quickly!

Seriously doubting whether I should continue cutting, I don't like the loss of strength. How much is a good lean weight for a guy of 6'2"? I'm down to about 226lbs but starting to feel skinny and weak again

How much is a good lean weight for a guy of 6'2"?

250lbs - 275lbs. 6'2" is pretty tall!!! :D :yelrotflmao:

Seriously. Where do you want to be in 5 years??? That will tell you whether or not to cut right now.

Good question, I never plan further than a few weeks ahead.

I'm gonna have a think about that, I'm still not sure if I want to commit to either training for physique or strength. I definately have a love of lifting above my head so maybe strength training should be my goal :D

I think I'll continue the diet until the end of the month and then hit the food and the bar harder than ever
