question on whey

It doesnt improve strength at all.
Protein is found in meat and dairy and grains, it rebuilds the fibers your tear when you weight train and helps muscles grow.
you should get all the protien you need from your daily meals if you eat 3 portions of high protein food every day, for 6 if your looking to build muscle.
many weight trainers use protein if they dont have time to eat propper meals.
Its not a magic drug, its a food suppliment. wont do any harm tho if you do want to use it, just dont take more than you need or you will gain fat.

yes i agree; if you take more than the recomended serving/day (usually 3 scoops) you will get unwanted results in years to come.

No no no, no way. Know things for a fact before you start posting them. It's a supplement, so say for some reason an individual couldnt get any other sources of protein throughout the day besides whey. For example, cereal at breakfast, a veggie sandwich at lunch, and pasta at dinner (just fast examples), there wouldnt be much in the way of protein there. Therefore if you added some whey, it would be fine. 3 scoops is only gonna be around 60 grams, nowhere near enough for anyone.

3 scoops of whey isn't gonna give you unwanted results, bad results come from a bad diet all around, not just the stress put on the liver if you have too much protein.

first off; i said more than 3 scoops
and 2nd off... i dont even have to read all of your post above^^^
TOO MUCH PROTEIN IS BAD FOR YOU
dont believe me? it leads to diebeties and is bad for the liver/kidneys! also, many whey products have a lot of atrificial ingredients in it and if you'r taking around 5 shakes a day it will make a dent!

its just a suppliment not a food group...
u dont need more than 3 shakes a day
im not challenging u or anything but i do know what im talking about

I know too much protein is bad for you, I never disagreed with that. I never said it was a food group either. I know it's hard on your liver, I never said it wasn't, and it is not the sole reason for diabtetes. Have you ever heard anyone say "yeah I got diabetes, you know...too much whey." Not gonna happen.

I also never said anything about 5 shakes a day, I was just saying that sometimes it is impossible to get enough protein in a given setting, for example a lot of meetings won't have much in the way of protein.

Also, a scoop isn't the same for every whey product, the scoop I have right now is 16 grams, some other scoops are in the 20s.

Most importantly, it varies by person, some people need way more protein than others, depending on their current size already and goals. Not everyone is at the same nutrition level.

Whey is in many other products as well (almost all dairy products), so you are getting more than whey than you think anyway.

too much protein causes diabeties? but, that's an insulin disorder, related to problems processing CARBOHYDRATES...sugar and alcohol primarily.

Taht's why our obese american kids who don't exercise and drink 8 cans of sugar loaded soda are developing type 2 diabeties at such a rampant pace.
Our high school athletes are NOT diabetic.

how much does it improve strength, etc?
All whey is is a source of protein. Many have been brainwashed into thinking it's so great and we need it right after training. Shows the power of marketing.

aite, thnx guys. its just that guys on my footbal team that started taking whey say that they got alot stronger, bigger.

put as simply as possible:

you get bigger by strenght training. lifting tears down muscle tissue. protein is needed to rebuild the muscles. Whey helps you get your daily protein requirement, if its too hard to reach eating regular food. Its a supplement, not a replacement. Like Manofkent said, if you dont have the time to sit down to 6 meals of protien, it really helps get you up to your required level

Just from whey? They're probably just pulling your chain or yanking your crank.

Truth be told, years ago Muscletech came out with a whey protein powder called Nitrotech and many claimed after taking it they gained size and strength. But if they had just looked at the ingredients label, they would have seen that the product contained creatine monohydrate. So what they experienced wasn't from this so said advanced whey product, but from the added creatine.

This is also one of the many reasons that Muscletech is a scam company.

I hate to pick holes, but most protein powders suggest 1-3 scoops 2-3times a day.
So thats 9 scoops which would be 144-180g.

you would have to be very very unlucky to become diebetic from that much protein.

hmm mine says take 1 serving 3 times daily. but ya; i guess you guys are right; im just saying its not a good choice to down more than 4-5 protein shakes if you can get proper nutrition in instead. :D

That is fallacy. There is no scientic study showing a link between kidney/liver stress and a high protein diet. Also, the diebetes you're talking about is a result of low insulin production, a result of high GI carb consumption (HFCS, refined processed four).

Find a better whey.

I dont know if there was studies or not but i was told online by either a med student or a person impersonating a med student that too much protein is damaging to the kidney/liver.

That's how widespread that myth is, even doctors are believing it, without bothering to confirm it. Next time someone tells you that, ask them to give you the research docket.

The closest any one can get to it is a study of someone whose kidneys were already damaged from some other disorder, couldn't take lots of protein, but it wasn't the cause.

oh okay. i know that you know more than me so il take ur word : ).

btw: does my body need more bcaa's at my age kuz i just go pure whey whith nothing else in it.

thanks

What whey are you using?

Read the ingredient and feature list.

On mine (Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard), #7: Four grams of Glutamine (not significant because the body only takes up 5%) and five grams of BCAA.

I suggest next time, ON.
