Protein shakes

Im gonna play devils advocate on this one and say I havent really had good results with protein shakes or weight gainers. I think they are a borderline gimmick. I have had just as good results eating regular food as taking the shakes and its cheaper . True, they are a good way to quickly get some calories and protein, ect in you after a workout within the one hour window when your muscles really need it but if you can, eat regular food and save your money. If you cant eat a real meal then yeah take the shakes as a meal replacement. Also I have not tried it but I have two friends that both really like BSN products. the protein is called snythsix. supposed to be pretty decent tasting too.

My cousin, who's strong as an ox, but very slim in build had the same frustration a few years back. He just gave up the shakes, continues the weight training and goes by the "I am what I am" motto now.

+1
theres something to be said for genetic makeup..and its harder to gain weight for skinny people than it is to lose weight for overweight people, you just dont hear people talk about wanting to gain weight that often except in weight training circles because it doesnt sell.... there are far more overweight people than under.

You guys realize this post is from June 2008?

and yes, protein is protein. as long as the protein powder isn't some horrible low-quality stuff, its no different than eating egg whites, or chicken breast, or fish.
In particular I think a blended protein is much better for everyone, vs a whey only protein. Whey digests fast...some argue too fast. And some research has shown better muscle gains and fat loss on a whey + casein blend, vs whey isolate.

I definitely feel you can get all protein from whole food, but shakes are convenient IF used in moderation. But skip all protein bars. 99.9% of them just suck

On this protein shake theme then...i want to build muscle and lose fat...will a protein shake hinder fat loss?
