Prices?

I'm thinking about starting to go to a gym over the summer, after I work. There are a few good gyms, near where I will be working, so I should just work for a few hours, than go to the gym.

I used to go to a gym a few times a week, normally 2 or 3. I was given a membership as a gift, and can't remember who I got it from. I could just call around, but it would be rude, that I didn't remember that they gave me it, since they aren't cheap...

What is a average price for a membership? I have a lot of weights at home, but I need to go to a gym.

Thanks.

I pay $10 a month for my membership but they range anywhere between 10-80 per month depending on you location, equiptment, services....etc...

Wow. Thats much lower than I expected. I might as well sign up now, if I can find one for $10-$30 a month around here. I can easily pay for that, even without a job...

whoa, i've never seen any gyms thats cheap, and i've been to a bunch

The one i just joined is 17 a month. Its nothing crazy with steam rooms or anything like that but it has everything you need for a good workout.

900 for 3 years.. Then 100$ a year each year after (100/yr is what I currently pay)

They don't expect you to go for 3+ yrs, well :p that

Why do you need to go to a gym?

If you have some weights at home and can get outside to do some sprint work and agility, you do not have to join a gym.

True nobody HAS to join a gym but, gym membership has a huge number of benefits. Equipment, 'expert' trainers, fellow fitness enthusiasts. It can provide you with an incentive to train as you've paid your membership too. I could go on, the list is endless.

I accept they're not for everyone but, I couldn't live without mine.

Holy ****e

I pay £32 pcm here. Which equates to (give or take) $60!

And that's damned cheap too for here :(

id like to find a gym like that around here, thank God we belong to the school gym, otherwise we would have to improvise.

I found a great one, thats $20 a month, since I'm a student. It has everything, a pool, tennis, normal gyms, much more, and of course... A ton of weights, and machines.

I'm sorry - but that was a dumb question. I can not afford EVERY machine I need, I can't afford every type of equipment I need. Going to a gym supplies you with everything you need, and much more.

Come to NYC and you are paying close to $85 - $150 for a health club....obviously that's for full amenities like towels, steam/sauna, shampoo/lotion/mouthwash....

Or Bally's is probably $50 but Bally's in NYC are overcrowded, dirty and machines always broken....

The funny thing is, the place I just joined has all the stuff the $85-$150 one has, plus, more probably.

They are lacking a little more size to the weight room. Sometimes it can be crowded, but I'm fine with it.

I go to Bally's and it was a $75 sign-up and $21.90/mo and includes everything they have at that location: classes, group work, spinning class, sauna, steam room, hot tub, cardio room, etc.

However, it's only good for that location.

Let's see, how are you gonna do regular back squats? (not front squats) How about dumbbell work? If you know a cheap set of dumbbells, up to 100 lbs or so, let me know. What about parallel bar dips?

A basic bench and barbell, and weights of course, are ok for a short time, but not a full time thing. Yeah you could make a squat rack, but the dumbbell stuff doesn't fly.

I'm just about done putting down for my home gym: multi-press rack, high end FID bench, powerblocks up to 90lbs (I'm not ready for the big block add-on that'll bring it to 130lbs), 300lb oly set + 2x45lb plates, swiss ball, etc. All I need now are mats and I'll probably get those the paycheck after next.
