Hey, my names Bridget - and I need to lose some serious weight!
I think I finally realize that "dieting" doesn't work for me - It has to be a total lifestyle makeover, and that's what I am working towards!

Currently I am about 2 weeks in, so things are still fresh and exciting - But I know my wall of laziness is lurking around the corner, and I need a buddy (or buddies) to get through this process with!

SO - Anyone out there with a BMI of 40 or higher that is looking to get down to a BMI in the low 20's... Wanna be my friend? :piggy:

I know I can be a great motivator to anyone that wants to be my weight loss buddy, and I just need someone that I'll feel accountable to if I think about slacking off, or can give me a kick in the ass if I start whining!

So consider this my application for a Weight Loss Buddy, and if you think we have similar goals and could help each other - LET ME KNOW! :coolgleamA:

The Basics:
Name: Bridget C.
Age: 26
Height: 5'9"
Goal Weight: 150 pounds
Current Statistics:
Weight: 307 pounds
BMI: 45.3
Neck: 15.5"
Chest: 57.25"
Waist: 55.5"
Hips: 60"
Calf: 18.25"
Thigh: 31"
Arm: 17.5"

Any takers???

Just read your post and it sounded EXACTLY like me! I was over 40 on my BMI (now just under) and Januray this year was a big slap in the face to ditch the self loathing and get on with the exercising and lifestyle change of eating properly.

I too am very very proactive and am looking for someone who I can relate to and share the strong and weak moments with!

Please see my intro post for more information about me, I'm based in the UK and am juggling a healthy eating food diary alongside a fitness trainer:

The Basics:
Name: Emma.
Age: 23
Height: 5'5"
Goal Weight: 140 pounds
Current Statistics:
Weight: 243 pounds
BMI: 39.2
Neck: 15.5"

If you are interested I hope to hear from you soon

Hello Emma! We are now officially weight loss buddies! :blush5:
I'm not sure what to do now, but I guess just keep each other motivated and updated! You've done so well so far! If I could afford a personal trainer I would have one too.... Maybe for my birthday!

Feel free to email me: bridgetnoone@hotmail.com

Maybe we can share our methods and motivation factors here!! Hope to chat with you more!!!

Hi there!

I've just joined the site, and Bridget pointed me here.

I'm game to team up with you two if you're willing.

It is going to be hard for me, since I tend to be a go-it-alone type, but maybe y'all can kick me in the butt when required. :)

Check my intro post and diary for details about me. I've also started a blog (link found on my profile) for those who are interested.

Why hello there!

Hey there! And I understand the go-it-alone thinking! I generally try to do things that way... but I needed a change, since it hasn't worked for me! I'm an exceptional avoider, and when I know things haven't been going too great - I have a knack for pretending scales and calories don't exist!

By having a little group of people who are in the same place as me with the same goals, I think it just might be easier for me to FOLLOW THROUGH! :biggrinjester:

Emma pointed me towards livejournal () So between that site, this thread, and my diary on this forum - I think a good place to start would be journaling out food and exercise so we can keep each other accountable!!

I look forward to getting to know both of you a lot better! :blush5:

Allow me to introduce myself...

Oh hey guys!

I'm 26 and really, really, REALLY overweight!
I put the weight on really fast, including one binge where I gained 100 pounds in 3 short months! I'm an emotional eater, so when I went through a rough time I let McDonald's give me therapy. LOTS of therapy. Like I was spending $60 a day at McDonald's (thus my credit card debt issues too).

I work as a Probation Officer, and I have a pretty sweet 4-day workweek where I work 10 hour shifts on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I like the job a lot, but I get paid peanuts. My husband was laid-off from his job about 2 months ago, so things are financially stressful - but we are dedicated to maintaining gym memberships!

I still need to lose about another 160 pounds. I'm doing this through calorie counting every day, and exercising 4-6 times a week.

My main goal for wanting to lose weight (besides looking cute again, because I used to be HOT) is that I want to be a mom more than anything in the world. It's tough getting pregnant when you're obese, and in addition to that, it's super risky and unsafe! I want to get healthy, have a few kids, and be an active fun-loving mom who doesn't just sit around eating ice cream!

Anyways... That's me in a nutshell! We're all off to a great start by using this forum - and I just know we'll all be able to reach our goals eventually!!

Hey Bridget,

I have a problem with emotional eating too. I also eat simply when i'm bored. I got "Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto. I've only read a little bit so far but he talks a lot about emotional eating. Might help you some.

Thanks!

I will have to look for that on ebay! Thanks for the tip!

Sunday, April 5, 2009: In a nutshell!

Today has been a busy day! :willy_nilly:

Up at 7:30AM with breakfast at 8AM (a SlimFast for 180 calories). Then it was off for tennis before it got too hot outside. We played for a little more than an hour, and it was a lot of fun! I was going to go straight from tennis to the gym, but I was just too sweaty! So I went home for a quick change, and then I was off to the gym!

I was totally in the zone at the gym! I did about 35 minutes on the incline trainer, which equaled out to be a distance a little over 1.5 miles, and over 1,000 vertical feet! It's kind of like I climbed over a 100 story building - which is neat! Then I did 24 reps on the bench press machine at 45 pounds, 12 reps of 40 pounds on the obliques, and a few other machines for inner and outer thighs.

For lunch I had sliced turkey and provolone cheese on toasted white bread with tomato, onion, and honey mustard. It came out to about 300 calories, and was SO delicious!

I'm not positive about what I'll have for dinner... But it will most likely be grilled chicken with vegetables. Although you never know, maybe I'll mix it up and have an omlette for dinner!

I hope everyone else is having a great day too!

sounds great! I'm too ashamed to play tennis but I have a sexy tennis dress waiting for me for when I loose weight!

Stuck in work today which was lame but am looking forward to getting back to the gym tomorrow.. training session at 11:30!

Care to make it a foursome? We can play doubles tennis when it's all done. ;)

Well, Wii Tennis, maybe.

Anyway, I'm 26 and 314 pounds. I'm just getting started again today. I've had varying success with weight-loss in the past, but the backsliding has me at my heaviest lately. I'm fed up with it, and I think I've finally found the support network that will keep me on track, in general. More specifically, though, I'm looking for a small group of people in a similar place as me (over 40 BMI, ready to get down to the "normal" range once and for all) who can all help eachother stay on track. Exchange emails, harass each other constantly, etc. ;)

If you wouldn't mind a fourth in this jolly band, I'd be SO ready to join ya.

a fatty foursome it is! welcome! as you've probs read everything is on my livejournal all food calories and exercise I find it easier as if i'm friends with you I can see all your entries at once and comment on all the good and bad days your having!

Welcome SakanaUshi!!

Yay Fatty Foursome!

I'm really good at harassing people, so I hope you all know what you have gotten yourselves into!! :Angel_anim:

I'm off to work, where I used to just not eat anything before or during (no breakfast or lunch) until I came home, but in the interest or doing the "healthy" thing I am taking some fruit with me for lunch! :drool5:

Catch ya all later! :leaving:

Hey gang.

Well, the morning so far is mixed.

Good - did an hour on the stationary bike this morning (I live on the slope of a valley - no way am I ready to take my real bike out yet).

Bad - followed that up with a breakfast of 2 slices bacon and 1 slice of toast with margarine.

Good - that was the last of the bacon (other than some in the freezer, but I can leave that alone - too lazy to go down and thaw it out).

Now for a day of tearing apart my hot water tank. Hope to get a good walk in this evening.

yum

I am taking the day off from the gym because my hip is KILLING me! I hope it's OK tomorrow so I can get back on the incline trainer and ruin it again! :toetap05:

So far I had a SlimFast for breakfast (180 calories), a navel orange for lunch (100 calories), and I am in the process of making noodley-doo for dinner (too many calories).

A giant problem I have is that I LOVE pasta... I curb it down some by eating ramen noodles, but it's still pasta - and still calorie loaded! Especially since tonight I'm making a garlic sauce with olive oil - EEK! :piggy:

If it weren't for the sauce and the pasta the rest would be super healthy! It's onions, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, and some grilled chicken.

::sigh::
Why do the bad things taste SO good?

I don't consider pasta to be bad for you, but YMMV.

If it is cooked al dente then the GI is lower and it gets absorbed more slowly by your body. This is a good thing.
Also, we primarily eat whole wheat pasta which is even lower in GI.

Yeah, I overdid it a little yesterday too. A few pushups and crunches turned out to be not what my muscles wanted yesterday. Spent the evening feeling pretty sore.

Today is going well so far - except for the water heater. :)

I made home-made macaroni and cheese for dinner. It was delicious, and not too bad per serving--350 calories, and it fills you up, cuz I use multigrain pasta (or whole wheat, depending). I don't like the taste quite as much as normal pasta, but with a cheesy sauce, you can't really tell.

I know, Mac and Cheese sounds so bad for you, but the recipe I use really cuts down on the fat. Since you start with a white sauce made with 1% milk and a 1/3 cup of flour, it's not fatty like a cream sauce. Then you just melt cheese into it--Swiss, Cheddar, and Parmesan this time. I might have used 2 cups of shredded cheese for the whole batch, but that's really the only bad part of the recipe. Oh, I top it with some crushed Melba crackers and a little butter, but it's just a thin layer.

The key is portion control, I guess. My biggest problem with pasta was always that I could eat a ton of it and still be hungry later. Multigrain and whole wheat pasta fixes that.

Oh, and ramen noodles? Ouch! Those are deep-fried before packaging. That's why they cook so fast. (I assume you mean instant ramen and not fresh) So, just be careful about them. You could probably find a more satisfying pasta per calorie.

Have you ever tried low-cal noodles? When I was living in Japan, they were really popular. Lemme look them up....

There are two varieties that come to mind. The first is called shirataki, which is made from the konjac plant (also called "Devil's Tongue"). It basically has no calories and is high in fiber.

The other is called harusame, and is made from potato starch, usually. It's not quite the 0 cal noodle that shirataki is, but it's very low, from what I remember.

Both noodles are nearly flavorless on their own, but with a nice strong broth, they both make great soup noodles. They also make killer Asian-style pasta salads.
