Please help me with weight loss??? Mine is a different condition.

I am obese and I am 20 yrs old. I am fat NOT because I eat or not because i dont spend energy. I walk a lot and work a lot and i eat very less. i have a VERY low appetite and i absolutely hate junk food, always did (even when i was slim). it is NOT because of my eating habits, i follow a very healthy diet and lifestyle. People and doctors advise me to stop eating fatty foods. WTF! I DON'T EAT UNHEALTHY FOODS and i am sick n tired of telling everyone. I never get tired or sweat no matter HOW much i work out and my heart rate never races. I self diagnosed it to be hypothyroidism as i showed similar symptoms... and i also got it checked.. the TSH test showed: 0.60 ... but the ranges show 0.25 - 5. mine is still closer to the lower side.. but the doctor told me to eat less and work out more....WTF again! I am very frustrated and pissed off... i have tried almost everything ,... and nothing helps! What do i do ?? this is very depressing... i have lost all interests in life.. i would be glad if i get solutions..
 
Hi, and welcome.

Start a food log, I use fitday.com, and for a couple of weeks keep track of EVERYTHING you eat. It's really easy to underestimate how much you eat.

If we're all honest, everyone on this site (with a couple of exceptions) eats more than we admit to. Being honest with myself was one of my most important steps.

Good luck, everyone can change their diet but remember it takes a little time to see results.
 
Would you be able to keep a diary of the foods you eat and the physical activity you do? If you record them here, then we may be able to suggest changes (because if you don't get help from your doctor, the only thing you can change is diet or exercise) that may cause you to see improvements. And keeping such a diary and presenting it to your doctor may cause him or her to investigate further, if his/ her opinion is that your diet and exercise are sufficiently good. Have you looked at your calorie intake? I used to eat a healthy diet without looking at the calories, but in retrospect the calories were quite high, so I changed some things around and have seen a massive improvement in my own weight.

I'm not suggesting you're wrong, but these are the only things I can see being changed without medical intervention- which you can't find on the internet (or if you can, it's probably a scam and you should avoid it).
 
I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist. Some times a family doctor can miss hypothyroidism when it is not glaringly obvious. I would also recommend keeping a very detailed exercise and food log so that you can bring it with you when you see the doctor so they have a better idea of what you are eating and doing. Depression can also hinder weight loss so make notes of your moods in your log to - the more info you have for your appointment the better.
Like the previous poster said - if you can give us more info (you can start a journal here if you like) and then *we* can have a look and offer suggestions. Check out other journals on here for some suggestions of what to include. I have found that area to be very helpful! :)
 
Here's my usual food log -
Although occassionally (and that's like once a month or once in 2 months or more) i eat other foods ... slightly higher in calories n stuff.

Breakfast - 1 roti with boiled veggies or One small serving or whatever rice mom cooks

Lunch - again the same food as breakfast - i pack my lunch to college.

Evening - a small cup of sugarless coffee (about 100-150 ml - sometimes with low fat milk)
OR i drink one tender coconut
OR have some fruits

Dinner - Again 1 roti with veggies (or) rice.

I absolutely avoid sugar ... my only sugar intake is when i have sweets occassionally and i avoid junk food to the max!

I never eat red meat.... i eat very little chicken and fish, again occassionally.
I dont eat eggs or yogurt.. i basically avoid all milk products too.

And this much of food fills my stomach completely... i feel i have over eaten.

And about exercise... i get to walk some distance everyday... no extra time only for work out because of hectic academic schedule!


The doctors said, my calorie intake must be more than 2000 per day and i work out accordingly. But i can never eat that much.
and no matter HOW much i work out... i dont sweat or get tired.... it takes me 30 - 45 minutes on the treadmill (running) to start sweating and i dont experience any muscle pain or increase in heart rate.
i have NO idea what this is :\
 
You likely don't want to hear this..but we almost always underestimate our calorie intake. Seriously, do a food log for one week and be absolute about it. Every little thing..if you have portion sizes or calorie count from packaging, write it. Also, write down how you are feeling at the time you eat (just in case there is emotional eating involved)
 
It doesn't appear that you are eating a very balanced diet. What are you eating for protein?
You may benefit from an appointment with a dietician. Sometimes colleges have them available for students at a reduced rate. What country are you from? Most countries have a national food guide for basic information - they are not always 'best' but they are a good starting point and free!

How tall are you and what is your weight?

If you want to loose some weight you will need to add to your walking. You could add resistance training or cardio to start with and then work at adding the other. What activities do you enjoy? Where can you carve out some time to workout? If the only time you have is during your current walk (I assume to school) you could add to it with cardio intervals or bursts of resistance training on the way.

Everyone complains about lack of time (not suggesting that you are - just from my experience) but if you make something a priority - you will make the time for it.
 
hello, maybe ur indian living in uk or ur simply from india thats y u eat roti?

im from mauritius with indian ancestors so i know a bit abt indian food and they are not always balance diet (maybe u try to make it a balance diet, but its not the case everytime) basically roti is mainly flour, and u say u eat rice sometimes in the morning, for lunch and at night as well. this is not very recommended when u want to lose weight. i remember when i was at mum's place, i used to eat just like that and with no physical activity and thats from where i put on so much weight.

u says u dnt eat much chicken and fish, but these are according to me the very best of protein when u exercise and diet to lose weight.

as some1 already suggested above, i think its gonna help u if u visit a dietician im sure watever health problem u may have not, if u have a proper diet ull definitely loss weight and yeah coconut water is EXCELLENT :) i have a whole litre of coconut water during cardio.

There is a condition (you'll need to Google) having to do with not being able to sweat. Maybe you need to ask your doctor about testing for this?
 
One great thing you can do is start eating fruits that are very rich in antioxidants. My mother has been doing a weight loss program with exotic fruits that are rich in antioxidants. I know that she hasnt been working out. Just a few walks here and thier with the neibour and she has lost almost 20 pounds in a month and a bit. something to look in to. hope this helps.
 
For a 'doctor', if you really are one, you should already know that antioxidants have 0 to do with weight loss. Seriously.

An antioxidant is a molecule capable of inhibiting the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals. In turn, these radicals can start chain reactions. When the chain reaction occurs in a cell, it can cause damage or death. When the chain reaction occurs in a purified monomer, it produces a polymer resin, such as a plastic, a synthetic fiber, or an oil paint film. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions. They do this by being oxidized themselves, so antioxidants are often reducing agents such as thiols, ascorbic acid or polyphenols.[1]

Although oxidation reactions are crucial for life, they can also be damaging; hence, plants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases. Low levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, cause oxidative stress and may damage or kill cells.[citation needed]

It's from wiki but you get the point. It's really for helping against things like cancer..not burning fat. It because this 'diet' when madison avenue realized that we are sheep when it comes to crazes. Antioxidants (many of which are sold at outrageous prices) was connected to weight loss without any evidence. Hell, the magical Acia or however it is spelt berry has less antioxidants than many foods that are better for you with less calories.

So please don't go suggesting that antioxidants are good for weight loss because it isn't.
 
I understand how frustrated you are! I used to suffer from many health issues that never seemed to be addressed which is why I became a holistic nutritionist. Oftentimes people are medicated for hypothyroidism but underlying imbalances are not assessed. If a person has toxins in their thyroid (pesticides, heavy metals etc), which to be honest is not that uncommon, then those toxins should be detoxified to help the thyroid fully. In addition other elements can stress the thyroid like food allergies or sensitivities, emotional or physical stress, chemicals, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and poor nutrition.

1-Have you checked to make sure you do not have any food allergies? (Especially soy and gluten)

2-Also check to see if your iodine levels are low, this can be important.

3-I would also eliminate chlorine from your shower by using a shower filter-chlorine can also stress the thyroid.

4-Balance your adrenal glands-this gland can be the cause of your thyroid imbalance.

5-Check your vitamin D, selenium, and zinc levels, magnesium

6-Incorporate fish oils

7-Eat 3 meals per day and 2 snacks, don't go more than 4 hours without eating


This is obviously not all of the info on a thyroid imbalance but I would start there! I hope that helps!

Hiya, over a year ago I was diagnosed with hypothyrodism. I have been taking medication since. At first i was ready to blame that for the reason of me being more than 6 stone over weight but on closer inspection it was down to the food. I joined my local slimming world group bk in aug last year and have never eaten healthier. so far i have lost 2 stone (28lbs). I keep a food diary so that i am always on track. Its also wise to vary your diet try not to have the same foods for all three meals every day. The body will get use to this therefore varying your diet including more fresh fruits and veg along with lean protein might help.
 
This could be a complete shot in the dark, but if you are a female look into Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. Just the general idea of not being able to lose weight makes me think could be hormonal. I have no idea about any of the other symptoms. I have 3 friends with it and it is incredibly hard for them to lose wight even though they don't have a bad diet.

Metformin is NOT a weight loss aid, and in itself, will not help weight loss at all. It won't 'curb your appetite, and it has a list of side effects as long as a monkey's arm. It's not safe, and should not be taken at all unless you're proven to be insulin resistant.

Metforman works in weightloss by making your body more insulin sensative. In other words it curbs your appatite. Since metformin doesn't lower insulin you can safely take up to 2000 mg per day with your Dr.s concent

Hi, I don't have the same problem, but my experience was very bizzare. From the age of 10 I carried extra weight, even though my mum would give me a healthy diet, and I have struggled with my weight gain all my life, as I can just look at a sandwich and gain 3llbs!! I'm 40 now, and last year I collasped with severe stomache pains and went straight to my GP. He perscribed a prune jiuce diet for a week to eleviate the constipation........I explained to him that I only go to the toilet once a fortnight, so perfectly normal for me. He was mortified, and told me to eat more fibre........no sweat, I'm a veggie!! My previous family Dr in the UK just perscribed laxatives for me since the age of 13yrs, but never investigated the problem. After a week on the prune jiuce, I took my diary back to the DR and he was mortified. With such a diet, I shouldn't be constipapted!! In fact, I shouldn't be able to leave the bathroom!!! Cut a long story short, went to see a gastro specialist who diagnosed me with an exceptionally slow digestive system that cannot tollerate insoluble fibre and has caused divertiviculitis, severe reflux and a multitude of other problems. As soon as I took out the insoluable fibre in my diet, ate meat again and avoided BROWN FOOD, you know, the healthy stuff, I lost a stone in 2 weeks (7kgs). (low residue diet, not safe to be on constantly says my nutrionist!! hence my op and current liquid diet!!)


I'm not saying you have the same condition, absolutely not, and it took a fantastic Dr and a specialist after 27yrs to diagnose me. I didn't push it because I always thought it was just me not being healthy enough!!


What I am saying though, is that it could be a multitude of things going on inside your body that inhibit your weight loss. Do not give in. Write a diary, keep a track of everything, food, exercise, bowel movements, headaches. Then, after a couple of weeks, go stamp your feet at your GP to start sending you off to specialists. At the end of the day, you know something is wrong, but you have to convince your Dr, because he will automatically assume you just need to eat the right things and exercise, of which for most cases the Dr's see I'm sure it is the correct diagnosis.

PS: i mentioned headaches, because since being diagnosed and avoiding insoluble fibre I no longer get migraines.............you have no idea how wonderful that is !!!!!!!
 
Right on! Sometimes, people tend to eat too much if they are depressed. This is something like to cover up what they feel as substitute of drinking alcoholic stuff.
