Please critique my program

What is interesting is I took that 'test' and it came out mesomorph. Is that even possible? My first thought is no but then if I think about it- with my lifestyle and how I ate I should have been significantly heavier than 260 when I realized that changes needed to be made 3 months ago.
Also with the way my body has 'taken' to weight loss. I have lost pretty easy and consistantly and I am taking to weight training well to without really ever doing this- since high school anyway.
interesting.

Told me I am a Mesomorph too... bullshit, if you look at my previous pictures, you can easily tell I used to be an endo. It's just that I have worked at it a bit to become what they classify as a meso.

Still though- by all rights I should have been well over 300 with how I lived. I never really did anything short of some sports here and there.
Not that it matters worth a damn in the grand scheme. The bottom line is that cardio will not hurt me and I should do it often.
Not rocket science either way.

Just don't forget the weight training in between, I tend to do my WT before cardio (if I did cardio first I wouldn't have the strength to do the WT). High weight... low reps. I liked Steve's basic lifts thread. I still follow it to this day actually... its very basic and works. Helped me go from zero pullups/chinups to about 16/14 of them.

To add, there really isn't such a thing as pure ecto, pure endo, and pure meso. Everyone is really a mixture of 2 or 3.

Myself, for instance, is mostly an ecto due to the bone structure and inability to gain weight easily. However, I also have some 'mesomorphic' traits as well.

Weight lifting and cardio is the way to go.

I personally don't see any reason for you to do cardio 6 days a week. That would cut back on some of your gym time. Maybe you could do something more like this? I know Steve could help you out with this if he takes a look at this thread.

Sunday- full body
Monday- 30 minutes of interval cardio
Tuesday- full body
Wednesday- 30-40 minutes of steady state cardio
Thursday- full body
Friday- 30 minutes of interval cardio
Saturday- rest

Lot's of good advice on here but I think LandonsBaby nailed it right off the bat. If your goal is weight loss then full body weight training and cardio is the way to go.

I noticed you had some concerns about squats and deadlifts hurting your knees. These are the very best two exercises you could do and if done correctly they will actually strengthen your knees so I hope you reconsider and make them a staple in your workout. I actually just finished posting a new artcle to my website for this very same topic if you want LINK REMOVED on it.

Sorry, but you can't post those links. They are littered with clickbank link throughs so you can make money off the forum, and that's against the rules.

Thanks.

Its not even so much the squats and dead lifts hurting my knees- it is actually more the back I am worried about. Regardless, my neighbor is a former personal trainer who knows how to do these properly and will teach me the proper form. I do not like her ideas on how to train though- that is why I am asking for advise here.
I do appreciate all the advise I am getting, by the way. Most of it is extremely helpful.

I figured as much... and I am sure it is dynamic as well. So what I was in the past doesn't really mean I am that now since I've effectively changed my metabolism to process glycogen differently. So, I think these classifications are not static by anymeans.

I would def get rid of that split setup you have though. And stick with compound exercises... Arnold Presses for example, I am a huge fan of those.

I do the same things almost every other day (MWF):

Bench Press
Arnold Presses
Dumbell Squats
Pullups or chinups

Thats it... I work my legs mostly when I do the elliptical with resistance training (intervals with resistance).

On days that I am not doing that (T.TH), I am working my core, Captain's Chair, Planks, situps, crunches... yadda yadda. Off on the weekends... but not from the caloric counting, just from the workout.

EDITED: I am going to say this has worked for me. I shouldn't have said YOU should do this or get rid of your split... Just something else to think about. The reason I am not doing a total body workout is for a simple reason... I won't gain anymore muscle with a caloric deficit. I am just trying to get rid of the layer of fat upon the muscle before I actually start a bulk program.

But isnt what you are doing a total body workout? I completely understand the building muscle while in a calorie deficit thing- that is not an issue right now anyway- I am trying to lose another 20-30 lbs before I attempt to build anything up.
I am convinced that the split program is not the way to go- I just really wonder why that is still the most common information out there. I know I have been told to do a split program from the tme I was in high school.

Huh, I guess it is a total body workout... never realized, just thought I was getting away with 4 easy exercises :)

Most common out there because you've got people who don't know what they are talking about in the gym. These are guys who have worked out their whole life with that same regiment never quite getting to where they want to be. I laugh when the out of shape trainers at school show the football players how to "workout". Meanwhile, the trainers bring in McDonald's food right before they get to "work". Outta shape and outta touch.

Read this thread I was involved in on another forum. I'm stroutman81:

Oh... so you're not just an asshole here, but everywhere else as well. :waving:

Seriously, every post started with "Dude:", classic.

Good information tho... I like the rationalization you put forth in your posts.

Hahaha, I have a notorious rep.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it is what it is.

It's a good thing. You question everything... not to be a dick (although it seems like sometimes you are trying to be). Thats the nature of the internet, however, you can either go with that flow or become defensive like 95% of the people who respond to you.

I do notice that you will ask questions that you well know the answer to just to make sure someone is saying what they are saying before you bash the shit out of them... basically you give people a fighting chance to clarify before they are getting ripped to shreads by the awesomeness that is STEVE.

And you won't let people roll over good ideas and let bad ones be spread... its a great thing.

I think I understand a bit now. And I do appreciate all the help you 2 have given me. It is always nice to see people who can pass on what they have learned from experience- not just from the internet or books.
DP- congratulations on the 100+ lb loss. The dedication that must have taken is incredible and I hope to continue picking your brain for tips.
Steve- Thank you. Your approach on this forum is outstanding. You help who wants to be helped. I have not read you contradicting yourself or giving out any advise that was not based on personal experience. This is greatly appreciated. I hope to pick your brain also as time goes on.
