Weight-Loss Peanut Butter

Weight-Loss
Sounds like a Trader Joe's type of deal. I am going there tonight... there is some sort of bread the woman wants to get.

Just googled it... BLAH... gotta stir. I hate that.

Yano, I've been throwing in peanuts into my protein shake lately instead of peanut butter (the magic bullet rocks). Just easier to measure out on a scale and what not.

I mix my PB when first opening and than put it in the fridge. It stays creamy and you don't have to mix again.

But it's just me. I like the taste of the stuff so the one mix per jug makes it worth it. If you like your stuff, I understand why you wouldn't switch it up.

Wait... if you throw it in the fridge it stays CREAMY and not rock hard?

i thought you would have to pretty much let it thaw out so it doesn't tear up the bread. Interesting... I hate HARD PB...

I believe that the Skippy all natural adds palm oil or something. Check the ingredients. Trader Joe's is just peanuts and salt or just peanuts on the unsalted. I do what Steve does and mix it and keep it in the fridge. I think it has a much better taste and consistency then any other peanut butter.

it does stay creamy when you stick it in te fridge

though the whole foods allnatural no salt added - gets a little chunkified...

Do read ingredients - all natural doesn't always mean peanuts, and salt

Mine stays pretty creamy. Definitely spreadable.

Sometimes towards the bottom it gets a little tough, but that's usually when I'm lazy and don't mix it well enough initially.

It does contain Palm Oil, not the best for you, but CERTAINLY not the worst.

Whole Foods, a store near me has Natural peanut butter, after eating it I never ever wanted to go back to skippy, and after a week of eating it, (the natural peanut butter) I ran out and had a spoon full of skippy, which left a nasty taste in my mouth XD.

If you get the whole food variety where it is hard, a easy fix is to put it on toasted bread instead.

Ok...

Went to Trader Joe's last night for the first time. OMG do I love it in there! Ton's of smoked salmon and other good stuff. When I go back to maintenance levels (or even bulking) I will definitely be buying that EZEKIEL bread... it looks so dense and filling.

Anyways... got their Chunky PB, and I mixed it last night before I threw it into the fridge. Woke up this morning and sure enough it's still smooth... thanks for the heads up everyone. It is 20 calories more per serving 200 for 32 grams vs 180 for 32. Not bad for getting rid of the Palm oil.

I recently switched to all natural peanut butter and my what a change. Not only does it actually taste like peanuts, smell like peanuts and have the texture of what pulverized peanuts should it is also cheaper than that Skippy and Jiff slop.

I too made that change about 3 or 4 weeks ago... couldn't be happier. Taste overall is just there... my fiance found a brand called PB Loco... they made some really cool flavors but it's back to the crap ingredients, and I have been sticking to my Trader Joe's Natural stuff. I eat a sandwich a day... I feel like I am 5 years old again.

I've been hearing all this stuff how eating peanut butter is so good for you. Upon examining the outside of the [Your brand here] peanut butter nutritional jar, I see no mono- or polysaturated fats. In addition, I see saturated fats. No sign of trans fat, but examing the ingridients list, I see the partially hydroginated bullshit. Here's something I pulled off a website:

Should I be looking to organic/all natural peanut butter as a bettter choice? Also, this post was made to try to make other people informed....hearing some of the things I hear on here, it seems that peanut butter is such a healthy food. While it does contain a lot of good fats (even though the label isn't readily apparent about it, which is odd) and protein (I don't think its a "complete" protein), it contains saturated fat, and even worse, it does have the trans fat component.

Any more insight? I'm thinking about switching to the all natural stuff and mixing it...i'm throwing Skippy away.

It really depends on the brand and formula. Natural peanut butters will have no added hydrogenated oils, which makes them transfat free.

"When peanuts are made into commercial peanut butter (such as Skippy or Jif), some of the oil gets converted into a harder, saturated fat. " -- This isn't exactly true. All peanut butter, even natural, has some saturated fat. But 2 grams is minimal. Some saturated fat in your diet is beneficial, since the body needs it to produce hormones like testosterone. You just don't want to consume too much of it. The saturated fat in Jif doesn't come from oil getting "converted into harder saturated fat."

Processed peanut butters may have trans fats because they use hydrogenated oils (like cottonseed) to stablize the peanut butter and prevent separation. While the trans fats are low enough to not require being recorded on the nutrition label, any food that has hydrogenated or partiall-hydrogenated oil in it's ingredient list WILL have some trace amounts of trans fats.

If you're concerned about this, go with a natural peanut butter with nothing but peanuts or peanuts and salt in the ingredients list. And don't sweat the saturated fat. It's just not that big of a deal.

Best of luck!

Hi!

My name is Jacob and I read this thread about peanut butter. I am in college and I've always used natural peanut butter that has needed a refrigerator. However, I discovered Smart Balance Peanut Butter, which doesn't need to be refrigerated. With being in college that's nice. I like the addition of flax oil, don't like the palm oil, and don't think much of the little added sugar. So, I think that this is better than regular peanut butter, but not as good as though all natural peanut butter.

What do you think?

I use smart balance natural peanut butter. It tastes great and doesnt seperate on the top like a lot of natural PBs do. hahaha thats so funny after I posted this I noticed the reply directly above me mentioned the same kind of PB! lol I also use smart balance butter, but only the light variety. lol

peanut butter is good for you...thank god lol...cuz its pretty much the only healthy thing that tastes good lol
