Panicing....what should I do

I posted a while back. I went from 255 to 168 in weight loss and wanted to put on some muscle to lessen the loose skin, maybe 10-15. My first week for training, 3 days a week, im starting a 4 day plan this week. The advice given to me by my friend (whos kinda like my personal trainer) is never be hungry. Listen to your body itll tell you what it wants. Well, ilistened to my body for a week and I gained 5lbs according to my scale. Is that possible?

I didnt eat THAT much more, i dont get it. I added peanuts and other calorie dense items, but my meals include the following ususally.

Peanut butter and jelly on a whole grain bagel.

Turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with soup for lunch. Apples too.

Can of chili or soup.

Chicken breast, maybe some eggs, and vegetables for dinner.

The whole day I snack on peanuts/raisins/maybe an energy bar.

Workout days include a whey shake.

Am I eating too much, or is a quick gain in the beginning usual. I know i wanna shoot for 500 more calories each day, this may be more than that, but i didnt think 5lbs in a week was possible. If this keeps up ill quit and try to lose weight again....

the 5lbs could just be water.
Check out the stickys in the nutrition forum.

Well, was this right after the calorie deficit for cutting or what?

The calorie intake of that diet is pretty high, but it shouldn't add up to 5 pounds.

Also did you weigh yourself in the morning or the night;)

If you have been a big guy before, the best thing to do might not be to "just eat" you could quickly put that fat back on. you should really analize your diet, figure out your maintence cals and bulk with about 500 cals a day over that, go for a slow increase in your weight.

The part where you mentioned, "I snack the whole day..."

Yeah, don't do that. Energy bars are pretty much just calories, instead, eat a banana. And peanuts are extremely fatty, it is good fat, but one handful is enough for the whole day. Do not snack the whole. You are supposed to eat small meals, six of them throughtout the day, that resemble proportions similar to a snack. But not eat meals, and then on top of that snack the whole day.

Like the guys said, it is probably just water, and you should check your weight in the morning after waking up to get an accurate weight. But either way, cut back on the snacks a little.
