Hello, I am new here and am just looking for some extra support during my weight loss journey. I am on a "diet" through one of my local hospitals. I am on a 960 cal "meal" plan and begining to work out more. I am on week two and so far have lost 12.5lbs! I still have 11 more weeks on the liquid diet and then they help you ease back into food and teach you how to eat a more balanced diet. I would say they are more about helping you make a lifestyle change than diet. It is not a cheep method, however there is a lot of support and care. I have blood work everyother week and three ekg's during my one year duration. Anf after I complete the program, I have a lifetime "membership". So I can go back or keep going for more help along the way.

Hi there! I have been using optifast for 4 weeks now, and I love it. I love the convenience of it, and I like that its "re-setting" my system, so to speak. Do take advantage of the veggies you can eat as snacks in between when it gets tough- it helps ALOT! I am learning how my body responds to different foods, and am actually grossed out by some fast-foods now! Except that darn Big Mac, god I love that nasty crap!! lol!

Good luck!! The only negative things I have ever read about this program are from people that didnt follow the rules- SO STICK TO THEM!

Best wishes-

Terii, I have been on this program for 6 weeks today and have lost 23.5lbs! I made my first target, and am well on my way to a better, healthier life! I am so excited to be WANTING to make better choices for myself, and being happy NOT choosing the food I used to crave so much.-

I`m glad to hear that!
Here is an article on Optifast as well:

Hi new here on Optifast again, :)

HI I am just joining this forum, because I like to find support also.
I was on optifast about 4 years ago, I lost 140 all together,
the good news, Is I kept 100 off, and stayed close to the same weight
about 3 years, I still have another 100 to go, and am starting
the program again, this is my second week.
I started another company closer to my home,
and made a really big goof, without realizing it,
when i started this time, I seemed so much more hungry,
the company here, was on vacation this week, and I wanted to buy
some of the powder drinks, rather than the ready made, and there
was only another company, who were the people I went to before,
I called them and asked could I come get some product, they were happy
to sell it to me,
when I had bought the stuff from the other company, I thought they
had changed the box,
when I got the stuff at the other one, they had the old box
I remembered from before.
So I started to investigate , Here is what I found,
the ones at this other place I started with this time, had only 160 instead
of 200 cal, but the biggest difference was the amount of protien
the 160's have only 14 grams of protien, the 200's have 26, wow almost double, when I use to do this program, I WAS NEVER hungry, after that first week, of sticking to it, this time I was so hungry...
So now I know why LOL
I have low blood sugar too, and am suppose to eat enough protien, I felt awefull last week,
now this place is still on vacation, till next tuesday, I am hoping they have
what I know now are called the optifast HP
instead of the optifast 800, I share this, partly because I KNOW other people may see a big difference,
I was close to 400 pounds when I started this, last time, and I honestly wasnt hungry after that first week, this week, when I ate the optffast hp version( or the 200 cal 26 gram protien), instead, I was FULL, and could go alot longer I am convinced its more of the protien amount, than just calories,
anyway, thats me, sorry this was a little long, if your still here, GLAD to meet all the other optifast Walkers, And hope to see more of you along this path..
joyjoy PS I had made a mistake in refering to the optifast HP version,

vanilla flavored

Hi Teri, glad to see someone else hanging out here, I will
check every couple days to see :)
Today, I am close to the end of the week, and am not crazy about the
vanilla flavored shakes, but need to do half them to finish up my two days.
I remembered I had some flavorings, I had used with another program I was
on, and dug into them, tried the peach yesterday, (not my fav.)
today, I tried the coccanut, it was GREAT for a change anyway,
I honestly, did almost 100% chocolate last time for 7 months,
I have to say, I am a little tired of those this time, LOL
The great thing is, I use to be a chocohalic, I DONT CRAVE CHOCOLATE
at ALL anymore LOL....
anyway, Hope yall are having a GREAT WEEK!!!
Joyjoy;)

Hey Terri, are you doing this program too,
and Hi HeatherDavis :) nice to meet you too
hope your continuing to do so well as your start!!
joyjoy

do you mean my TICKER? ;)

Click on it in my link and it will take you to the website-

I weigh in on Tuesday- I HOPE I BREAK THROUGH 200!!!!!!!!!

Cross your fingers for me- there were alot of stinking barbeques this week lol.

Hey Joy I really love the strawberry shakes- I am the least crazy about vanilla, but it helps to switch it up a little- I made a smoothie with one with some ice and some extra vanilla and it was awesome- I am so excited that I havent started hating any of them yet! ;)

I havent NOT lost yet at my weekly weigh ins- the least I lost in a week was 1.3 lbs, and then the next week I lost another 3.5, so I was ok with that. :)

I love so very much that when I DO eat regular food, I can stop when I am SATISFIED, instead of STUFFED. I nearly cried when I realized that I had done it and didnt want to keep eating. Was a pretty surreal moment being that I had struggled with that my entire life.

I love this program. It is doing exactly what I wanted it to do, and I FEEL FANTASTIC.

They should pay me millions to be their mascot lol.

Alexia, this program can be pretty spendy- in comparison to a gastric bypass surgery its not, but It runs me about $500-$600 per month without insurance. Fortunately for me, my insurance covers the brunt of the cost, and I mainly pay for my shakes.

CHeck with your IP and see what they cover; if they cover a gastric bypass, they might also cover this program- I went to a weight loss clinic here in alaska, which if you look for one should have an actual MD running the clinic, with a smattering of Physicians Assts. and RN's.

This has been totally worth it to me so far. I have nothing but great things to say about it ;)

I am just starting Medifast.....

It is almost the same as Optifast except the program I am on allows me one "green Meal" a day. Which is 5oz of meat and a 3 cup salad. Today is my second day and my bones ache. I hope that one has nothing to do with the other. I will keep on it though, I really need this to work.

I am pretty big. 297. I always told my family if I ever got this big to shoot me. I am pretty depressed but I want to get better. I have two small boys that need Mom to live healthy. I hope to draw alot of spport from this site. It looks great.

Hi everyone!

I'm starting Optifast tomorrow! I have been overweight for 6 years now (I am about 210 lbs - would like to be around 155) I am bridesmaid for my sisters wedding in December, so I would like to find a lovely dress to wear and not a potato sack!

I am going to do this, and not stop, like I have with other plans in the past. I am doing this for me firstly, and for my daughter and my husband.

I'll be back tomorrow with progress reports! (Time for bed as its 12.55am here!)

I have just started it today...All I've tried so far of the range is the chocolate bar, which tastes ok but I'm seriously not convinced by the texture.
I confess that I'm not very good at sticking with these things, so when I talked to my doctor we agreed that I could have one very low calorie meal for dinner - tonight I'm having a chicken salad, with the chicken poached and skinless :) So because of this it may take me a bit longer to lose, but I think it'll be worth it if it means I can stay with it for longer!
I'm really excited to see how it goes though, and excited to hear how you all find it!

P.S. wow your "tickers" (is that what they're called?) look awesome guys, I think I might get one!

Hi Megs

I think those people posted a couple years ago but I am from Australia and have been looking into optifast. Let me know how you go with it tho, I hear it is meant to be very effective! good luck x

Hi there. I lost 30 kgs betrween Feb this year and June. Now, however, I am stuck, so i am going to try shakes for breakfast and lunch and a meal at night. If that doesn't work, I am going back to a complete Optifast regime. Anyone else had this problem?

Hi,
I went on Optifast in the summer of 2008 from July to October in the fall. I started at 285 lbs and I lost 85 lbs. To date, through concious and purposeful changes in both my eating and exercise habits, I have kept the weight off and routinely fluctuate between 200 and 205. I had gotten as high as 212 after not weighing myself for a month. Then I got mad at myself and got back on my regimen. I went on the diet after years of yo yo dieting and getting myself to a point where I needed intervention to lose the weight in the form of Optifast. There are a lot of people on this diet who fail. The diet does not fail, they do. They fail themselves. If you do this diet and follow the program, you will lose the weight. You should understand something though...
1) you are not doing this to lose the weight. you are doing this to change your life. If you think you are going to diet, lose the weight and go back to your old habits, don't even start. My goal was not to lose the weight...I knew I could do that. My goal was to keep it off...yours should be too
2) you cannot cheat on this diet. if you do, you run an exceptionally high risk of failure. follow it to the letter. no veggies between meals. even carrot sticks, while on this liquid diet, can push your insulin levels and cause you to be hungry and store even the liquid meals as fat rather than burn the calories. this diet was scientifically created, follow this diet to the letter.
3) you MUST begin to exercise. no ifs ands or butts (extra "T" intended). If you do not exercise, your metabolic rate will diminish and you will burn less calories as your body adapts to a lack of movement. You will feel sluggish, tired, cranky...and you will say, 'i hate this diet'. You will see less results and when you are hungry you will eat for energy and violate rule (2) above. When you exercise daily, you keep your metabolic rate up, burn more calories and keep your muscle rate higher...burn the fat not the muscle. use the muscle.

I kept a running diary of the whole Optifast experience that many of you may find value in. I can't publicize it here due to our rules but I will answer on thread anything you want to know. It worked and worked well, but it was not easy as no diet is.

Best of Luck,

Dick
