Yes, this is fine. Its the finer cut version of oatmeal.

Yes, adding in ground cinnamon is great!

If you have come to personal terms with artificial sweetners, you can add in splenda with the cinnamon, and this would taste good!

You can add raisins as well.

or

Just have a mix of Natural Peanut Butter (if you like NPB) and Oatmeal.

that looks fine to me.

I eat oatmeal at least 4 days a week for breakfast. I always use splenda to sweeten, cinnamon and raisins. Sometimes I add cut apples or peaches for a change of pace.

I don't care honey myself but it does work also.

I don't know if anyone has tried this, but i cook the oats with some milk, then combine that with fat free/no sugar added yogurt(strawberry is my fav!). It is unbelievably good, I highly recommend trying it.

I add a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder to mine. Not only gives it flavor but also protein :) Also toss in some walnuts or almonds, dried apricots, raspberries for more flavor.

There's nothing wrong with quick oats, but I prefer steel cut oats. They have a lower glycemic index and much better texture IMO.

....the downside of steel cut is preparation time (about 30 minutes)

I don't have a stove so I just make the steel cut in the microwave. Not nearly as tasty but it only takes 3 minutes.

I made some sugar free (Splenda), oatmeal "nut" banana bread......last night, the healthy way........bajeepers! This was good, hehehe. :)

I may give my secret if anyone is interested, HEHE.

Since my friend, Gooch, asked:

3/4 cup Splenda (or suite to taste)
2 eggs
1 cup mashed bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups of unbleached or whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup quick cooking oats (old fashioned slightly thicker oats will work)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (or another NUT ;) that fits your taste buds)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

In a large bowl, Stir in Splenda and the eggs, beating well, then stir in the banana and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, sift together (healthy) flour, baking soda and salt. Beat into creamed mixture. Stir in oats and nuts. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.

My mother in law gave me this recipe, I dont know where she got it from, but it is good.

I just replaced white sugar with splenda, omitted the shortening (ugh!!), and replaced the flour with a healthier alternative.

I'll try it out, thanks

...hey did you ever try agave nectar? I have a world renowned recipe for "Gooch squares" LOL. They look similar to granola bars, but are made from ground nuts, dried fruits with a little agave nectar to sweeten and hold it together. It has been a great way for me to increase my healthy fats

The basis of this recipe is from Wild Oats Store's "energy bar" recipe, but I made a few changes

Gooch Squares

1/2 cup ground almonds
1 1/2 cup ground walnuts
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/2 cup diced prunes (or whatever dried fruit you like)
1/2 cup diced dried apricots (or whatever dried fruit you like)
1/4 cup agave nectar

Preheat oven to 275
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl and pour into glass baking dish that has been sprayed with pam. With wet fingers, press the mixture down evenly in the pan. Bake for 45 minutes
allow to cool completely, then cut into 16 squares (OK, I usually eat 2:D)

I might try adding a little nutmeg next time

I can give nutritional info upon request
