Weight-Loss

This is probably going to be the toughest time for a lot of people who are trying to lose or maintain weight.

I thought it would be helpful to start a challenge for NOT GAINING weight during Thanksgiving.

Lets motivate each other to stay strong and confident during this holiday.

Post your starting weight here now. Thanksgiving is on November 25th and that's the moment of truth for you. Then on November 30th post your ending weight. Did you gain? Did you stand firm against the gigantic plates of starches and sauces? Let's all find out together.

So What to do now:

Explain what you plan to do to prevent weight gain?
Then on November 30th:
talk about what you did to avoid too much food or how you limited yourself. Or what mistakes you made and what your weaknesses turned out to be.:drool5: Was it hard to limit your food intake?

Motivation people! That's what this is about. :grouphug:

Today's Weight= 182.4
November 30th= _____

My plan:
I don't really see much family so I doubt people being around me with a lot of food will tease me or be an issue. So that's a great thing! As for myself, I will not buy all of the heavy foods in the first place. That way, I can't cook it.

Nov. 30th- What really happened? Did I give in? Did I stand firm?:

Today's Weight= 162

My plan:
I'm contantly around family for Thanksgiving! My parents are divorced so I have dinner with my dad's side then my mom's side.... then just my mom and close family...... THEN we have another one with my fiancee's family! AHH!
My plan is to eat something before going to their house and then only sampling a very small portion of the good dishes like the mashed potatoes etc.
My second plan is to work out everyday even when I have the days off of work!! Becuase I get very lazy when I'm not working! I'm hoping to lose weight over the holiday!
HERE I GOOOO!!! :)

OMGoodness! That's a lot of temptation. lol

But you have a plan and that's the best way to prepare.

My only relatives in Texas serve weird Asian-style turkey during Thanksgiving so I'm going to a friend's house :)

Today's weight: 259
After the apocalypse: ???

PLAN:
My oh my, how I love Thanksgiving dinners. Its not the turkey that gets me but the sides. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, baked macaroni and cheese, broccoli rice casseroles, and biscuits, etc. I think I'm going to choose a maximum of two sides instead of my usual three or four and an even more modest helping of turkey.

Luckily, I'm immune to candied yams, pecan/pumpkie pies, cranberry sauce. Yeah you can keep those.

I'd like to join!!

Today's Weight= 192.4

My plan:Eat less of what I normally do. We end up going to my parents and then my DH's grandparents. My weakness is the sweets, so my plan is to pick ONE thing and not much of it!

Nov. 30th- What really happened? Did I give in? Did I stand firm?:

I'm in!

Starting Weight - 180.5
Weight November 30 -

Explain what you plan to do to prevent weight gain?
We're going to have two separate Thanksgivings. One Thursday and one on Saturday. One with my parents and one with my fiancé's grandparents. The plan? Eat turkey. And mostly only turkey. Plan ahead and eat very low cal before we go visit (soup would be a good idea). Eat light the day before and the day after so if I splurge it won't be a huge gain. Budget ONE dessert at each dinner so I don't feel deprived.

NO ALCOHOL. NONE. My wedding is two weeks after Thanksgiving. I can wait until then to get sloshed.

How did I do?

That's a good point... thinking about the food I forgot about all the booze!
I'm adding no BEER to my plan. It's so high in calorie and carbs......

I'm going to limit myself either to none or one Jack and Diet Coke.... PERIOD!
:/

This won't work for me :(...I'm trying to lose an extra pound or two prior to Thanksgiving because I always overeat.

Congrats on your wedding Bluebuckeye.

I don't drink but I agree. I think people don't even consider a plan for the alcohol. Good call!

Daybehavior, there are not many people so fortunate to be immune to yams, pecan pies and pumpkin pies. lol

I'm up for the challenge. Will be cooking this Thanksgiving so I will have some control over what is being served. Lots of veggies with the turkey :)

Now - 178

After Thanksgiving - Hope to lose a pound or two :)

November 30th:

Plans For Keeping In Check: I'm lucky this year in that I'm having Thanksgiving dinner with only my immediate family this year. This gives my mother (also dieting) and I an opportunity to make plans for healthier dishes, organize portion control BEFORE food is put in front of us, so on and so forth. We can do it. We're wicked strong!

Has anyone heard of something called a Tofu Turkey? I saw it yesterday. Looks a little.... interesting. LOL It's basically tofu shaped into a turkey. But I'm sure some people may choose this to help limit calories. Has anyone heard of it?

Thanks Emerald! Hopefully I can keep going with the weight loss after the wedding too.

Yeah I've had tofurkey. It's not too bad, if you like tofu. I'm not a huge fan of the texture though so I don't think I'll ever eat it again.

November 30:_____

I'm not a huge fan of Thanksgiving food. But I do love pie, so I am going to let my wife cut it for me so I don't go overboard. I also have a Thanksgiving potluck at work this week - those always get me because I love trying different foods. But I think I can do this. I also have a couple of home improvement type projects going on over the long weekend to keep me moving. And my wife is threatening to take me shopping on Black Friday.

@fragile: That's a good idea. Getting others who are supportive involved always helps.
@Bluebuckeye: The texture was the first thing that came to mind when I first heard of a tofu-turkey. LOL Didn't sound like something I'd like very much.

Not long now before the big feast. Now's the time to make a plan.
You don't want to be literally...full of regrets. :rotflmao:

I live in Canada, so Thanksgiving has long passed. However, today happens to be my Birthday and I will be taking a "break" off of the calorie counting today, and am going out for a nice dinner as well as having some cake and ice cream afterwards. Letting myself have whatever I please for once!

So long story short, I'd like to join in too, if I may!!

Current Weight: (November 23rd) 124.8 lbs
November 30th Weight: 126.7 lbs

Plans to keep in check: None... I plan on letting myself have whatever I want today. [eek]

Good luck everyone!!!
