Nicotine Patches

LoL same thing with me, switched from lights to ultra lights and i think i smoke more now..

However i am quitting soon, i am thinking after my exams at college 3 this week, and i cant even imagine going through them without my dear cigs.. but if i did quit b4 exams and succeeded in my exams.. i think my motivation and confidence to quit would go through the roof !

I wouldn't try quitting while in your exams. It works badly both ways, the stress from exams make you more likely to give in to the cravings, and the cravings will take your focus of your exams.

I agree with the post above. Best idea is to plan when you're going to quit (ie. after your exams). If you're trying to study and craving cigarettes at the same time, you won't perform as well as you could and get the results you deserve. If the exams will be over in a few weeks, it really isn't going to make much difference one way or the other to your health.

Good luck in your exams btw :)

Wow, this thread seemed to spark back to life :)

Hi,

I’m a very, very heavy smoker for many years and I must do something pretty soon about it... That’s why I’ve been following your progress.... How’s it been since July?

I had a couple of small stumbles after coming off the patches but they were insignificant and seem to have stopped now. I generally don't crave at all anymore

i also read the alan carr book(he recently died of lung cancer due to passive smoking from his patients

He was also a 100 a day smoker for about 40 years before he quit, but for some reason people focus on the tiny amount of passive smoking, lmao

- My overall tip for not smoking - Before deciding to give up, be honest with yourself and decide if you really do want to stop or if you're thinking about it because you think you should.
If your desire to quit is pure then you have a decent 50/50 chance; if you secretly still want to smoke then you will definately fail. All quiting methods require will power so you'll fail if you don't really want to stop.
If you're one of those people who doesn't really want to stop then maybe try cutting down first because a long list of failed attempts to quit will hinder further attempts as you start to doubt that you can ever quit.

It's a bit like going for a PB with your deadlift, if you doubt that you can do it then you'll almost certainly fail. In order to succeed you need to know you're going to succeed before you even touch the bar.

Yes, thats my gut feeling too... I know that quiting would be impossible for me now and could even spring forward other worst habits from the past in a full blown relapse. Cutting would be nice and even that is tough as hell. I have a big problem with this, like you said too, I love to smoke. Until this is surpassed by a contrary feeling 10 times bigger, I'm bound to fail. As a side note, I can tell you all that my most successful try in my life was a 10 hours smoke free period. :bncry:

Anyway, great to hear about your success and congratulations on that one! Cheers!
