Hi everyone,

Im new on this site, after reading so many entries over the past week, I felt I needed to join. I am taking the first step to being honest with myself. I am almost 33 and weigh in at a nice 150kgs. I have decided after months of trying to eat healthy and going to the gym 5 out of 7 days and losing nothing, its time for me to do something drastic, Im going to a cohens diet clinic tomorrow to get started, I sure hope its going to help me the way it has helped so many of you. I have spent most of my life overweight, only recently dicovering what the emotional trigger was for hiding behind the weight, and now its time 4 me.... time 4 me to shine and remove this weight. I know I can do it, and I hope this forum, helps me with support and most of all its a place for me to be honest with myself, a place for me to come and reflect and find inspiration. Well I guess thats a long enough hi and hope to hear from a few of you soon... Cheers ~!

Hi,

I'm in my first week - welcome! I'm feeling so good about this whole thing, hopefully you will too. I had one rough day, I stayed home from work, but after that I feel great - I even have energy and feel alert at the end of a work day.

So far the key has been to be organised and have great scales!

hear from you soon

Bec

Hi Time4me & a very big welcome to the forum! You have made an excellent decision to
join the Cohen's program. It really does work. Also knowing the reasons behind your being overweight will help you overcome them in the future. Most of us have self-sabotaged for various reasons. I know I still battle those demons but being slim is a whole lot better for your self-esteem than being overweight. I still cringe at the word obese but, I was obese. I hope we do provide you with the support you need. Also don't be afraid to ask your clinic any questions that arise. I have found them very helpful. Still do! Cheers for now, Cate.

Thankyou Bec and Cate,
Your warm welcome is appreciated, I know I can do it this time, the weight will be gone by Christmas, I am setting realistic goals so i dont get dissappointed and fall off the wagon, staying focused and having friends online to help me will be the key to my success. I have not told anyone that I am going on the diet as I have tried and failed many diets in the past, have been a gym junkie for years and never shed the weight, I am tired of being asked all the time how is the gym going?? how is my weight loss going??? I would rather just hear them say "WOW you have lost weight" and i know this is what they are going to say cause this is going to work for me, i just know it~!!
I love reading the success stories on here and I know they will keep me inspired.
Cate congrats on losing 36Kgs thats GREAT~!
Bec I look forward to sharing this journey of weightloss with you.

Cheers Barb ~!

Hi Barb! Welcome!!

You have made a great decision! Choosing to do Cohens has been the best thing I have EVER done with and for my life. I am just in the process of finishing my Refeed and have at present lost about 50kgs. I still have about 5 or 6kgs to go.... but I am going on holidays to NZ and so my consultant and I decided that I should do refeed now and then finish off the rest later....

Anyway.... I wanted to encourage you to not set any TIME limited goals. I noticed in one of your posts you said that the weight will be gone by Christmas. It could be... it would be totally awesome if it was!! I was convinced that mine would be gone within a year! surely! (thats why I booked a holiday!!!) But I was a lot slower than other people and didnt quite get to my goal... however... YOU Will look AMAZING by Christmas if you stick to it and follow the principles! This forum is full of wonderful supportive people and they will stick by you no matter what if you stick around and share your journey!

Anyway... look forward to reading more of your journey as it unfolds!!

Blessya

Hey Bitten~~!!!
Thanks for stopping by to say hi, I loved NY was there 2 years a go, would move to USA if I could, but both governments want ya to jump through too many hoops, and being as fat as I am, I can barely jump two inches off the ground. So anyways, ill stay living in this fantastic country i was born in. I will however travel back to the USA for many more holidays. I look forward to sharing my journey with you, and watching you reach your goal, you can do it girl~!! How are you feeling today on your second day?? all going well I hope~~! look forward to hearing from you soon....
Cheers Barb ~!

hi barb-

i am fine and dandy and in the middle of day 4.
i am feeling full from my lunch, for the 1st time, so that i will take as a brilliant sign of entering the ZONE everyone talks about.

i am a wee bit shaky and weak at times, but i know that it will improve.

i too would love to be done & dusted by xmastime (actually i really hope for sept/oct as we are off to the caribbean. if i have to i will re-feed and re-start when i return, or who knows maybe just have a 'cohen' style holiday and stay OP.

i wish you all the very best.

bitten-

ps. after 10 years in the UK we are back in the US and i can't stand it (except for family & friends) stay in OZ, our government is so full of:icon_bs:

feeling full

Hi Barb and bitten!

I was just reading bitten's comment about feeling full from lunch. Isn't it great to eat a good meal and have it make you feel content but not over stuffed! Remember going out to a restaurant and ordering too much eating it anyway and then complaining about a horribly full stomach!

At last nights wedding I didn't follow my eating plan and I felt truley horrid, It gave me instant bloating and bad breath. Throughout the day though I didn't cheat, and even after eating a meal that wasn't right I didn't continue onto the cake. I just don't have those sugar cravings anymore - it actually feels quite freeing )

I know your not supposed to weigh yourself but I have everyday and there was only one day wehre the numbers didn't move, and then the next day it made it up by double, its such good motivation. Also yesterday I put my jeans on, when I got back from my honeymoon they were uncomfortable and hard to do up and I had a big roll over the top when I sat in the car. now if I jump up and down they can actually fall right down passed my bum! (in my own home of course).

I really look forward to hearing your journey Barb, its not long now and you will be on your way to a new you.

Starting this week

Hi,

I am hoping to start the program this week as I am at my wits end... actually I was there a while ago when I really think about it.

In the past 10 years I have added 27kg to my slight frame. I know in the greater scheme of things 27kg isn't much but when you start at 48kg and had been there for a long, long time then adding half your weight again. I am sure many of you understand.

I was fine until I joined the military. i used to graze, eat reasonably well, with treats sometimes, but all home cooked meals. Then for a number of years I had my meals and meal timings and portion sizes dictated to me. It all went pear shaped from there - while I went apple shaped!

When I had added about 10kg I started to get reflux. It wasn't too bad and only happened when I ate really over processed foods, or foods with lots of preservatives. Once I hit 20kg the reflux never left and i am now on drugs twice a day with an appointment with a surgeon tomorrow to try to fix it.

I saw cohens on tv last year, but didn't have the spare cash. Now I do and in a last ditch attempt to lose the weight before I have to be gutted like a fish I have my first appointment and blood test tomorrow.

I hope it works. After reading about everyones positive experiences I can only feel positive. Although the first week sounds a little daunting, but I am so looking forward to feeling well again and can't wait to be off the drugs!

Hello and welcome Somnferious

If you stick to this program 100% you will lose the weight. It is the only one that worked for me and even though i have gained some of the weight back I know I will lose it if I go back on plan. The easy part is losing the weight the hardest is trying to lead a balanced life after and trying to maintain the weightloss. You may want to open up your own personal diary and record your daily weighloss events and anything else you would like to share with us.
Goodluck and best of luck.
Sam:)

Thanks Sam,

I am really looking forward to it, and the alternative is surgery, which I would prefer to not need.

As I said tomorrow is my first appointment and the rep said that she should have my program ready for me the following morning - she will be away for a week and wants to get it done before she goes.

The diary sounds interesting, might be the way to go.

Has anyone had any problems with excess skin, etc from losing the weight so quick?

You all sound like your doing so well. It's amazing to read. I'm thinking of doing this very soon, but have alot or worries, Guess i just have to be ready to give it 100%. It looks so restrictive- though nothing else seems to work.

So has anyone done this- then found the weight came straight back on?

Thanks- sorry about the 20 20 questions.

Hi Inn and welcome to the forum.
I found when I completed Cohens last time that I really didn't have too much excess skin except under my arms and even this wasn't as bad as you would expect after losing 35kgs. You take a vitamin supplement while on the program which must include Chromium. This is supposed to aid in skin elasticity and help your skin fall back into place.
With regard to gaining the weight back. I maintained my weight loss for a while but issues in my life (you can read about them in my diary if you're interested) helped me turn to food as a comfort again. While I was following the "Life After" guidelines I didn't regain any weight, but no one could expect to maintain any sort of weight loss eating the way I was, and I don't blame the program one bit for my weight gain. The program is absolutely fantastic and I'm now back for my second go at it. I am rid of the issues that caused me to turn to food as a comfort and I am so inspired to get to my goal and stay there!! After 5 1/2 weeks back on this program I am now down an amazing 13 kgs!!!!
The program is very restrictive but if you stick to it 100% after the first week or 2 it is really easy. You get to a stage where you don't really think about food that much and you eat mainly because it is time to eat. Good luck and I hope you decide to give it a go. I'm sure you won't regret it.
Take care
Beck

Hello,

I'm new to this site. I am on the Cohen's lifestyle diet, and have been before.. It works really really well. I lost 24kgs the first time on it, and managed to keep it off for over a year... I'm back on it now, as I was touching on 100kgs, and not quite six foot. I've been on it for just over a week, and already my pants are loose! I'm following the diet 100% adn also riding to and from the train station.

The hardest thing with this diet (after the first two days) is the anti-social aspect to it. I have a question for all those on it. I am using my old diet and it's working well, but have lost the re-feeding programm. Can someone re-jot my memory. Is the refeeding program the same foods, just increased quantanites?

Hope everyone is feeling well, and remember as hard as it is, after a couple of weeks, you'll see the changes and feel great.

Hi Joey Tee,
Welcome to the forum. I am also using my old program and finding it is working just as well as the first time.
Yes, the program can be quiet anti social but as most people I know are very supportive of me doing this, I tend to just pack up my food and take it with me and if I am going somewhere that I really can't take my food I will just order something as close to Cohens as is possible (ie I usually get a 200g steak and eat half of it and have a side salad with no dressing and try to judge the correct quantity). They weight loss is carrying on just fine and the few occasions that I have had to eat out have not affected it at all.
The refeed increases the amounts of your current food and also adds in new foods. I'll PM you to explain it more.

Take care

Beck
