Hello, people of the internet! I am a 21 year old male that stands 5’10”. Just a month ago, I started to lose weight by eating better and trying to go to the gym at least 2 times a week. I weighed 334.7 when I first started on June 4. Now that its July 7, I weigh 308 pounds. I just want to ask if it’s okay to eat less than 1,200 calories a day? Because there are days where I only eat less than 900 calories but I don’t feel any hunger. I don’t know if it’s my will power to lose weight is stopping me from eating or something else is wrong because I sometimes think that I lost all those pounds too fast? I do think that it’s also kind of normal for a morbidly obese people to lose that much at first but I need your opinions. Some say that I don’t feel hunger because my body is using all the stored fat that I’ve been storing in my body all my life. Is it true? Thank you so much!

I hope someone who's not selling something answers your thread, because I have the same question. My calorie counter says not to eat less than 1,000 calories a day, and sometimes I just don't feel like eating that much. I started at 219 lbs. 7 weeks ago and am down to 205, so am having some weigh loss and feel much better.

Congratulations on all the weight lost, and hope you find good supportive people on the site to help!!! It's been a tremendous support for me thus far!

While 1200 is the normal minimum, it is possible to eat less in a healthy way, however, it is much harder to meet nutritional needs and requires much stricter tracking to ensure your getting enough nutrition.

Hi Jazz1997 and welcome ,
Well done on weight loss so far! You haven't mentioned what your nutrition is like but it's not really a case of getting enough calories per day, it's about getting enough nutrition per day. I did a post here about why Low sugar / keto is perfect for us guys and one of the reasons is that you can pack in lots of nutrition but come in pretty low on calories. It's here if you're interested: https://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/why-keto-is-perfect-for-us-guys.93907/
It may be of some help but the point is that if you're getting plenty of healthy fats, protein, complex carbs and water (and you're feeling good, i.e. Energised and alert) then you're doing fine. Also you started at 334, you're young and working out so I would expect you to lose weight pretty quick for the first few weeks (that's a generalisation based on my past clients). I'd be interested to know what your workout regimen is like. Hopefully it's based mainly on strength training while you're losing weight? Good luck buddy, hopefully some of that helps

900-1200 calories per day sounds like too few calories for you. You might consider a goal of 0.5-1 lb of weight loss per week. Losing the weight slowly like this is less stressful and less likely to trigger the metabolic slowing that occurs with rapid weight loss.
