New Years Challenge (sign up)

I know I"m starting this early, but some of us might not be around for a few days around christmas.

I want to start a New Year Weight loss challenge. DO you all want to do a "loose weight together" kinda deal or do we want seperate groups in more of a competative environment??

I think 1 mth is plenty long for a single challenge. So it'll run from Jan 1-31st.

Also, the only "rule" I have is that come the 1st, I don't want any new people joining. Once teams are made up , I HATE going back and adding new members.....do you all think thats fair??????

If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know!!!

Lets sign up!! I'm in :)

Start it Jan 5 (which is the first saturday of the new year) - you know there's going to be a influx of people joining up the first week of january...

give new people a chance to sign up..

You could always make it a 6 week challenge and end it on Valentine's Day - and since VD is a pretty lame holiday, theme it towards heart health or exercise or something along that lines...

especially because accordig to news reports, january has more heart attacks than any other month :)

you've also got
Celebrate Healthy Weight Week, Jan 20-26

January is also national blood donor awareness month - bonus points to the people who donate blood (eat cookies and lose a pound :D

you've also got women's heart month
in january

well, ok we can make it 6wks :)

I LOVE V-Day!! Its my anniversary :) it would be nice to be down a few pds by then :)

As far as giving people a breather goes, I guess if they feel they need one, by all means, take it! No one HAS to sign up for this challenge. As for me, I could really use the motivation of a challenge. I havn't felt up to one in a while, but now I am, so the challenge will be a big help for me.

I hope that this challenge goes ahead. I definitely think that it would be good if it does. I want to play.

I thought I'd rename the challenge so anyone joining knows how long it runs.

Also, I havn't heard from anyone if you think it should be a 'in it together challenge" or more of a seperate teams/competative challenge. I guess since the other team is doing a competative one, maybe we should just have this one more of "in it together" type of thing......

what do you think??

I am happy with either.

It has already been suggested that you might get quite a lot of new people on this challenge. I would have thought that a high proportion of those would be people who have just made a New Year's resolution to lose weight. We have all been there and done that and know how many of those resolutions get forgotten about one or two weeks into January (or sooner). A team based challenge could be very difficult if you get a high proportion of drop-outs. I suspect that this is why Kimberly is having the sign-up when she is - and why she is saying that people must have made 20 posts.

The beauty of an "in it together" style for this challenge is that if people drop out it wont give you - the organiser - a major nightmare of how to sort out depleated teams.

I am in for this too.
