My Quest: To Become a Spartan

Thanks! :)

Yeah, the daily weight training thing is probably not my best idea, but I felt I had to do something with the treadmill out of commission. The weather is still too nasty to run outside, but I should be able to find something.

But may I do it one more day to finish the Break In program before my week off? Pretty please? :D

I already did my workout before logging in today, so here's the list of stagnant lifts that had little chance of improvement with what I had available :bncry:

Except for explosiveness. That's still fun :p

Squats: 2 X 15 (60)

Static Lunges 2 X 15 (60) (both legs)
Two Point Dumbell Rows with Elbows Out 2 X 15 (30) (both arms)

Push-ups 2 X 21
Swiss Ball Crunces 2 X 21

I spent a little time in front of the mirror afterwards since I hadn't really been paying attention to any changes. Still a ways to go, but I'm starting to like it.

No more Break In program! The last workout:

Deadlifts 2 X 15 (116)

Step-Ups 2 X 15 (60) (both legs)
Dumbbell One-Arm Shoulder Press 2 X 15 (30) (both arms)

Close-Grip Lat Pulldown 2 X 15 ("180")
Reverse Crunch 2 X 20

Now I'm in my break off, and I've got to decide what to do. I want to continue with the NROL until I stop seeing progress. I'm still not too interested in getting too much bigger, but making my body more efficient at the size it's already at.

So I'm trying to choose between one of the weight loss or strength building programs. Hopefully feedback on the pictures for the beginning of March will offer some guidance.

With no weights, this might be a long week :bncry:

170.4 this morning. Slow progress without cardio, but still progress.

Pics may be up later today or tomorrow. The weather actually turned out to be pretty nice, so I've been spending my time outside readin.

I decided to leave out the pictures this month. Progress is clear if you look closely, but it's proportional, so it's hard to tell a big difference.

I've been losing weight quickly this week for some reason. I'm down to 169.0 since Monday, nearly a pound and a half in four days. I've been eating plenty of protein, so I hope it's not mostly muscle.

I'm probably going to start one of the NRoL Weight Loss programs on Sunday. Haven't decided which one yet, but they all look fun in a masochistic way :D

Man, I can't wait. This week has been the longest seven days in a long time.

Just a quick update.

Started Fat Loss 1, and it's going pretty smoothly. I like the new lifts.

New treadmill too, so I've started running again. 15 miles last week, and 5 so far this week. Glad I finally get to update that.

Another 5.

I've got to remember to run in the morning. Major heartburn when I run later in the day. Doesn't help that my diet has pretty much sucked the past few days.

Hey I'm new here and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this journal (that title is damn good :p). Keep up the training, you'll be like a spartan

Thanks!

The Fat Loss program is going well despite not having dumbbells heavier than 30 pounds available. To justify the lower reps, I train a little more explosively and take shorter than recommended rest periods.

Deadlifts and variants are up to an easy 122. I just wish I could see what my max squat is. I know it's nowhere near the 60 pounds I'm stuck at with the dumbbells.

Maybe I just need to find a safe way to get the bar on my shoulders without a rack. Time for a little bit of ingenuity.

Five miles this morning. I actually threw up a little in my mouth when I was close to 2.5 miles and about a mile after that, but I don't feel bad at all. It was weird, just sneaking up on me. Need to find a cure for that ninja vomit.

Five miles again yesterday, leaving me at the halfway mark.

I've been having to open at work this week, so that means being there by 6 in the morning. The work isn't demanding at all, but getting up at that hour when I'm used to sleeping in later is starting to take a toll on me.

Two 2.5 mile sessions on Friday and 5 miles today, so 10 more to add to the tally.

This morning's run was rough. I was able to run at a faster pace since I split up the five miles on Friday, and I tried to go close to that this morning. That might have been pretty dumb. After 3 miles, I pretty much had to walk a lap for every lap I ran. Towards the end, I got fed up, reached deep, said "eff this," and cranked it to the max for the final lap. Felt good after I caught my breath.

Eh...it could be the asthma too with the funky weather lately. Thought I was over that, but I had a small attack around the same time I had to slow it down.

Yep, it's the weather. Pollen count has been friggin huge lately, but hopefully the monster rain that should be coming in today will help with that. With the new knowledge, I took a small break after each mile so I didn't kill myself. This caused me to take a little longer overall, but the actual time running decreased for the same distance. Guess that's an improvement.

Thanks! How are things going with you?

I ended up playing laser tag indoors Friday night for two and a half hours. This was a building on campus. Not a normal place to play, but somebody had the equipment, so we set up tables and chairs as bunkers.

I ended up slidinh under a pool table. Got carpet burns up my left leg, but I got him. I'm just hardcore like that

Somebody commented that I'd lost a lot of weight. Didn't realize there was that much of a difference. Might take some new pictures soon to find out.

5 miles yesterday, and I'm on my tenth week of NRoL. Lifts are going up steadily, but I'm running out of weights. I need to decide if I want to buy more or join a gym.

Ten miles since my last entry. Coulda sworn I'd be up to 190 by now, but it looks like I'm off.

Man, I'm sore. Found out late last night that I had to be at work early this morning, so sleep was pretty much nonexistent. What little I got left my back sore, and after running today, moving around is a chore, haha. Glad tomorrow is a rest day.

I've added ten miles since my last update.

Man, I'm sore. I've got one workout left from Fat Loss I tomorrow, and another five miles Friday. After that, it's a week off of everything. My body's starting to struggle a bit, and I'm loving it, haha. Let's me know that I'm actually do something other than sit around the house.

You ought to see our esteemed FlyinFree's Journal. You two may have a few things in common.

Congrats on adding the 5 miles! Good luck with the NROL Fat loss I 2morrow!

Best wishes to you!

Thanks Chillen!

I'm definitely going to have to read more of FF's journal.

Forgot to add that I did the final five miles last Friday. After that, I was so burnt out I stayed off the forums and didn't do anything at all on my week off. I'm refreshed now, and I can't wait to start Fat Loss II today!

I haven't read all of your journal, but it looks like you're doin well.

How is the NROL fat loss workout doing for you? I've done some in hypertrophy and strength but not fat loss yet.
