Music for your workouts

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I just chose the Member's Lounge since its more of a general topic I guess.

I'm looking to buy some good music to listen to when I walk on my treadmill or walk outside. When I workout with videos I really don't have that need, but I'm exhausting my collection.

Except for my Bond CDs. I'm buying their new album "Remixed" on Tuesday, so that's one new thing to look forward to. (If you've never heard of Bond, by the way, you can go here to listen to a track off of their new album. )

I appreciate your feedback.

This looks like a great message board, I just joined today. So many different topics, I could just get lost here ! LOL

I like Evanessence. Pink works as well. Shoot, just about anything that moves well enough works for me (but ballads and whatnot are right out - so is rap). You might want to try compiling your own CD (or MP3s) from others that you already own. I go running a lot and would probably go with MP3s, but if you are stationary CDs might be cheaper and work in more places for you.

yeah, I have some stuff on MP3, but CDs really work better for me. Evanessence ? I've never heard of that. I'll have to check it out. I'm really looking forward to the Bond album, so I'm really excited about that too. Being fall, a season of change, I feel like I really need some great new music for my workouts.

My favorite music to work out with is dance / techno. The beats are usually a little faster so it keeps me moving.

Some of my favorites:

Terra Skye - Is this love
Miss Jane - It's a fine day
Rockell - Tears / Higher / In a dream
Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the sky

I agree with Hybrid93Hatch ... Techno/Dance all the way - it does a great job in pumping you up ...

Try:
Trance [] Control
Moby
New Order

What do you do while doing resistance training? I have a tape walkman, and hate using it. Gotta get some earbuds. My problem comes with no where to put it when resistance training. Cardio is fine, cuz the machine has "shelf space" available. Clipping to the shorts is not a popular consideration for me.

From the music standpoint, driving rock music works for me. Ballads are definitely a no-no. Classic rock, new rock, and the occassional entrance theme from the WWE (like HHH's "Time to Play The Game" by Motorhead).

Well, my resistance training is done in my garage - so a CD Boombox works great for me. My cardio is running and the arm band MP3 player works there.

I listen to alot of punk music, so alot of my cds are great for cardio (and strength training)! Lots of fast songs that keep you going. Also, metal like most metallica songs and other faster rock songs keep me going.

Of course "eye of the tiger" is in my mix ;)

I get CDs specially produced for workouts from workoutmusicvideo.com. It's not really great music, but the pace is consistent and that's what I want. They offer a lot of different types of music genres -- jazz, dance, R&B, 60s.

For at-home high-impact aerobic routines that demand a fast beat, I purchase CDs from Dynamix (link below). I strongly reccommend listening to their music clips via phone or online before purchasing. Be warned! All songs with lyrics are COVERS, which might turn some stomachs. You might find yourself listening to Madonna's "Vogue" sung by a male robot at quadruple speed. However, they are amazingly mixed with excellent transitions, motivational lyrics (if any), and a strong beat keeps energy up. I also check out club music compilations, like the mixes international djs and nyc night club webster hall throw together. The prices (around $23.00) are fair considering you get two 45-minute cds of uninterrupted work out music.

Great. I sound like a sales rep and I'm not even getting paid! Dynamix, if you're listening, I write fabulous press releases....

:)

I use the Offspring for workouts. Really good fast paced stuff keeps you moving and hyped up. And of course Linkin Park.(Im a bit of a head banger type)

I do mix mp3s on my digital player.

Some of the best songs I've used that really get me moving on the arobics are:

"Dancing with Myself" by Billy Idol
"You Got Me Rockin'" by The Rolling Stones

Anyone have any great songs to add to my collection?

You can have all the music you want, but if you have the best MP3 player ever... it'll make the world of difference!

I know it may sound materialistic but ever since I bought my DIVA GEM Bluetooth enabled MP3 Player I've been working out harder and happier!

I was about to purchase the Apple i-Pod, but many of my MAC buddies told me to wait until the i-Pod has a longer battery or Bluetooth in it.

Then I heard about the DIVA GEM!!! It's not the first MP3 player with Bluetooth, but that can only be good (ie. no lemons).

The top reasons why my workout has improved:

1. I can listen to music with a WIRELESS HEADSET! You know when you're on the treadmill or a machine and the wires always get caught? WaLAA! It's gone now, no more wires! I already had a wireless headset for my cellphone, all I had to do was SYNC it to my MP3 player. The beauty of Bluetooth!

2. If you don't want to listen to your MP3s then you have an option of listening to an FM radiostation! The i-Pod doesn't let you do this! LoL, sorry about all the i-Pod bashing but I seriously was about to buy one. Oh! BTW, the Dive Gem has voice recording too (I use this to record what spin classes I want to sign up for later)... wait who doesnt have that? OH! The i-POD!

3. This is really cool... when I am listening to my Diva Gem and I get a phone call, my headset automatically receives the phone call! The incoming call is notified to me with a ring tone in my headset. Clicking the joystick button I pick up the call. The sound quality is surprisingly good. The Diva Microphone is really very sensitive. (make sure it is set to high sensitivity). So this is really usable. The only bad thing is you have to have a Bluetooth phone for this to work, which is sad because not enough phones offer this option. I have had the Sony Ericsson T610 for a while so it wasn't an additional purchase.

4. With all this combined I have made great friends at the gym and listened to my music (which is an integral part of my workout) fluidly. I can't wait till they come out with a headset for underwater! THEN I CAN GO TO THE SAUNA!!!! OH gosh I'm such a nerd.

And on a side note... the battery is nothing like the i-Pod! The Diva Gem comes with a 450mAh Li-Ion battery that powers the player for 14 hours. When connected to the Computer via USB the MP3 Player is charging!

Geez, Diva Gem should hire me for their PR dept., LoL.

I like complex music for my workouts, everything from Dave Mathews Band to Crystal Method. I think that's why alot of techno/house music works so well - the beat is great, but the complexity really keeps me focused.

I don't listen to music whilst doing any kind of running - I'm training for something where you have to find your own motivation and I don't like making it unrealistic in training - I like to beast myself!

For weights etc I like a bit of Outkast 'hey ya', offspring 'why don't you get a job', but My favourite artist to train to is and always will be Elvis!

I like to jam to really angry music. Machine Head, Fear Factory, Sevendust, Soilwork, Nonpoint.
Getting angry helps me lift heavy and blow off steam. I always leave the gym pleasantly exhausted
