Weight-Loss Muscle Milk

Weight-Loss
I have been taking it for about 2 weeks and have been rather pleased with the results. I have only been working at losing weight for about 3 weeks. Started @ 272lbs. weighed in a 255lbs this morning. I truly feel my results are accelerated with the help of muscle milk. I work out usually late morning, and then have the M.M. as my post workout/lunch replacement. It is very filling, this is coming from a guy that could eat 4-5 slices of pizza for lunch, now I have my shake and I don't even think about food until 6-7:00 pm...Honestly it tastes pretty good as well. (banana creme) I would also recommend mixing with water and crushed ice. With milk it seems to be too rich. I think after another week of progress I will be getting more serious with lifting and will be taking a shake about an hour before bedtime as well. I will keep you guys posted if this creates any changes..

Anyone lose weight while drinking Muscle Milk Protein Shakes ?

Ok so I guess I should've thought a little more before purchasing this stuff. But what's done is done and now I have a HUGE 5lb tub of Muscle Milk Protein Shake sitting in my cubbert.

I bought it because I tried it first and let me say - it's absolutely DELICIOUS (when compared to MOST protein shakes). And I figured that I'd stick to it better if I was drinking a protein shake that I actually LIKE instead of one that I can hardly barf down. So that's what made me go with the Muscle Milk.

HOWEVER, I'm starting to question my decision to buy it. SImply because of the Calories, Fat, etc. it has in it.

It has 350 Calories, 18g Total Fat (8g Sat. Fat), 12g Carbs, and 6g Sugar. The protein is 32g. This is for one serving (2 scoops of the powder in 12fl oz water).

It CLAIMS that the fats are "fast burning fats". For instance - Medium Chain Triglycerides, Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, and engineered lipids.
it claims that these fats promote leanness. BUT this is what the COMPANY claims - for THEIR product - so who knows just HOW TRUE it is.

So anyway - I was just curious if there's anyone else that drinks this stuff, and if you've lost weight while using it. I drink it for breakfast AFTER my workout.
I just started drinking it this morning.

Julia:

There are no such thing as fast burning fats. A fat gram is 9 calories. It might change how fast it is digested. This in no way helps promote leanness.

As it stands, it sounds like a very good after workout shake. But that is all it is...it is no more superior than someone having a baked potato and some lean meat.

Hope that helps!

Michael

Thanks Michael,
But now I have more questions ... LOL.
See, the reason why I got it is because I am NOT in any way a breakfast person. Yet I know that I NEED to have a good breakfast to start my day. So the protein shakes seemed like a good choice. Cause I also wanted some good protein to eat/drink directly after my morning workout (breakfast time). SO all in all - the protein shakes is what I would prefer for my breakfast.

NOW - my questions - Since this is the case - is Muscle Milk "GOOD" for that ? Since I want to LOSE weight - I really want to know wether or not it will PREVENT me from losing since it's a bit high in fat, etc.
Even if it doesn't HELP me LOSE weight - as long as it isn't PREVENTING me from losing weight - then I'd still be interested in drinking it - so I get some breakfast in me after my workout. And that's what it is - my breakfast (a meal replacement), and SOMETIMES if I don't know what to have for lunch - I thought of using it as a "lunch replacement" as well. ANd it's an added plus that I like the taste of it.

NEXT QUESTION - IF the Muscle Milk IS infact TO fattening, etc. for what my goals are - then is there something else that you would recommend ? (or that anyone else would recommend for that matter).

I want to lose approx 50lbs of FAT and TONE my muscles. Of course I don't want to LOSE any muscle - which is why I am trying to do the protein after my workout/s. I want to be lean and tone - not thin and frail looking. I want to be healthy most of all.

Any help / suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated ! :):jump:

Yea, I wouldn't recommend Muscle Milk as a protein supplement while dieting. It's just too calorically expensive and people would rather eat their calories than drink them for satiety.

That said, if you need to supplement your protein intake, I'd shoot for a regular old protein shake containing roughly 100 calories and 23 grams of protein.

I agree with Steve that it's often more satisfying to eat food than to drink shakes.

However if this is indeed your morning meal...I think this is a time of day where a 350 calorie shake isn't going to do you any harm. If your workouts were later I would go with a lower calorie protein-only shake.

I would definitely NOT use it as a lunch replacement. Only as a post-workout breakfast shake.

I wasn't looking at it being a 'time of day' issue.

I was more looking at it from this angle:

Protein requirements are elevated during a diet, I think you'll agree.

However, calories are short-changed during a diet too, so one of the biggest issues is satiety. That said, any liquids that are high in calories, including protein shakes, should be the first to be nixed IMO. I wouldn't have a problem with a less dense shake....

This said, the OP doesn't seem to have an issue with satiety, so it became a moot point.

With that out of the way, I'm interested in hearing why the muscle milk would be ok at breakfast, but not at lunch.

It's just a satiety issue. If you can't stomach breakfast but can drink a shake...drinking a shake is better than no food. If she couldnt stomach lunch I'd probably say a shake is better than nothing also, but i didnt get that impression.

A breakfast shake + a lunch shake is probably a recipe for solid food gorging later on in the day too!

I was hoping/figuring that was your reasoning.

And I agree, that would be the case more often than not.
