Members with little history posting, can we sort it?

Sounds like an elitist attitude to me...

Which part?

(by the way...just boosting my posts so people will take me seriously)

Like you said Bennelson101, "I know its a free forum, i know everyone should be encouraged to participate"....As annoying as it is, this is a public forum, not class room.

I understand the basic idea of the thread. Sometimes people pop up out of nowhere and start throwing advice around like they own the place.

But then there are several ways of looking at it though.

*members who are very knowledgable but don't post much
*members who post a lot but don't know much
*members who are new with few posts but may be a PhD

So, I think it comes down to reading carefully through the responses. Chances are, if someone is way off the mark, someone else will correct them. That's the beauty of this site - people aren't afraid to point out inaccuracies. Many "fitness" sites are based on moral support, making people feel good, and telling them what they want to hear, yada yada yada. This one, is based on giving people accurate information and telling them what they need to hear (like it or not). There are many professionals in the fitness field here, as well as many lay people with valuable input. Pay close attention, and you will begin to see who has the right idea and who doesn't, regardless of post count.

ive never had so many replies.

the point of my post was not to demand 'elitist' rules on posting, but to make people more aware of dodgy posts.

i doubt someone who had damaged a ligament, dropped a bar on himself, or was simply overtraining to the point of detriment would consider asking people to be careful about who they listen to to be elitist.

all im asing is for people (mainly newcomers) to self regulate themselves a little for the sake of the site.

I'm all for new members joining and posting, but am getting increasingly annoyed at those who come in and post without history and seemingly little knowledge.

I created a thread about NROL and fat loss, and the first two responses were from sub-30 posters, one of which completely went off on a tangent; hence destroying my original post as i had to explain that they were not helping. They had either not read the original post or just came in throwing around all the generalized crap theyve read elsewhere and decided it was time they got the chance to re-spout somthing to me i already knew a long time ago.

I know its a free forum, i know everyone should be encouraged to participate but is there not some way of preventing newcomers posting what i reluctantly call complete bollo**s. Maybe some introduction sheet advising people not to go replying to posts without spending some time getting to know the forum and asking a few questions. There are a lot of people giving out bad (and more importantly dangerous) advice or clogging up forum with drivel and most of all they've ruined my thread!!

thanks to all
ben

Ben, some could argue that you could find the information needed by using the search bar. Sure, there will be people coming out with absolute crap, but that's not relevant to their post count. There will be people looking at this post and thinking 'I've seen this before'. It's the internet.

For Ben or anyone for that matter looking to ensure more solid advice one of the best ways of doing so is to point the question to moderators. If there is something that is very important to you that you want to know, simple title your question "hey moderators, question about such and such". This will keep the posters to a certain few and heighten you chance of a better response.

As for anyone else who just posts a regular question, it is a crap shoot. For the most part though the more educated posters do what we can to try and correct bad advice the best we can.
