UMMMM absolutely not, eating mc donalds will most likely help you gain weight but muslce no way. I'm guessing your trying to bulk up correct? When you bulk up you want to gain as little fat as possible. Yes I guess Mc Donalds will make you overall "bigger" but you will be gaining lots of fat as well. You should be eating meals that have the same large amount of calories as some Mc Donalds meals but let those meals be healthy so you can gain as little fat as possible ya know?

Big Mac:

Calories........540
Fat g............29 ( 10 g sat )
Protien g.......25
Carb g ..........45

Med Fries:

Calories........380
Fat g............20 ( 4 g sat )
Protien g.........4
Carb g ..........47

The total burger calories is about 50% from fat ...the fries are about 50 % from fat.

Also, protein doesn't add muscle ....training does...eh ! :)

And for the average gym rat of your age, the majority of research suggests that all you need when strength training is about 0.8 grams of protien per pound of bodyweight.

How much do you weigh ?

How often do you weight train ?

Diet will determine weather you will succeed or fail.

Well i work at Macdonald's and i can tell u this don't eat any of the burgers. If u do eat something from there get the one of the deli choice rolls with a multi grain bun. Tandoori chicken is great and is one of Macdonald's health foundation tick approved meals...and there chicken nuggets are tick approved now so if u want a snack get a 6 pack/10 pack of those. But yeah don't touch the burgers/fries and for a drink get a juice/water...they are all still bad for u but at least not as bad as they used to be...when i am washing up at closing i smash the chicken nuggets...thats all i eat there hehe :p its really tempting tho working there and trying to stick to my good foods but i pull threw :)

made for you is so much better than the old system eh.

Is Mc Donalds good if you want to gain muscle.

Is that a rhetorical question

I don't know what advantages eating at McDonalds has over...just about anything else.
It costs heaps as well, it's much cheaper to cook something much better yourself.

If you want to build muscle, make your own meals.

Not without proper nutrition it doesn't!

The only way you can build muscle is to subject your muscles to an increased amount of ( progressive ) overload.

Hard as it is to believe, some ' newbs ' out there actually think you can build muscle by simply consuming massive amounts of protein alone.

Scarfing down boatloads and boatloads of protien ' alone ' doesn't build muscle - proper training does.

That was point.

I understand your point but there are just as many newbs out there that think you can workout with crap nutrition and gain muscle. You need to eat, lift and rest intellegently to build muscle.

There are far better and more efficient choices for protein intake than McD's. And as has already been pointed out - nutrition is the foundation on which any training regimen rests. If your nutrition sucks so will your results.

i think we all know that McDonalds is "bad" and there are lots of stuff you should be eating instead

but if you eat 2 double cheeseburgers while on a 3 full body workouts/4 morning cardios a week you are saying it wont help you build any type of muscle???

Well, lets say you're a young guy who weighs 160 lbs. Most of the literature suggests you only need 0.8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight per day if your are interested in adding muscle.

So, for 160 lbs, that's 128 grams of protein a day.

Let's say you scarf down 2 double cheeseburgers - that's 25 grams of protein each - so 50 grams for both. Add 2 cartons of 1% milk - that's 8 grams each - for 16 grams more. So for that MacMeal, you take in 66 grams of protein alone ...and you've got to pick up another 62 grams of protein from other meals throughout the day.

As for your cardio, depending on the type and intensity, you're going to need carbs primarily - not protein.

All that aside, the big " negative " issue with a lot of McD's food is the high fat and salt content.

2 double cheese burgers will probably make your muscle go down lol:p

Anywhere you eat you should be thinking about food choices. The big mac is not the greatest choice, but they have chicken sandwiches...skip the mayo and half or all the bread.

Wrangell, I don't necessarily agree with the USDA set up. There are plenty of studies that have shown higher amounts of protein than what they list for the purpose of hypertrophy is beneficial.

I'm sure you'd still be able to gain muscle, it's just that your results probably won't be as good as if you'd eaten healthier. Also, McD's is so full of crap that muscle building is the least of your worries, your arteries won't thank you for clogging them up

McDonalds would be a good choice if the meat weren’t processed so much. The meat at McDonalds is poor at best. That's the reason why it's "bad." Even the salad at McDonalds is poor because of the type of dressing they use.

If you want "fast food" go with subway. At least their food is far better than any of the other fast food.

For muscle building, eating protein alone won't do anything. It'll cause fat gain, which isn't what you want. If you are training for muscle build up, get your protein from food such as chicken or eggs. Also, a protein shake can really help you. Whey Protein is really cheap at GNC, and you can get 2 weeks supply for like 14 dollars, much cheaper than a week worth of big macs.
