MAX Fitness!

Okay, so I was all excited to go get my new training shoes today. I knew what I wanted and I looked up where I could buy them.

So, I go to the store and I tell them "I want X shoe in X size, I don't care what color." The guy tells me he has to measure my feet first to make sure it's the right size. Sure, what the hell, doesn't hurt to make sure my shoe will fit properly. So he does that and it's still the same size, and he goes into the back room. He comes out with a different type of shoe than what I asked for, says he was looking at my feet and thought these would be better. "No thanks, I would like the shoes I asked for." He goes away, comes back with yet another shoe that I didn't ask for. "Well these are in the middle of the two and I really think they would be better for your feet." At this point I'm annoyed, I want the damn shoes I came to buy. "Look, I want the shoe I want. You're going to go back into that back room and bring me the type of shoes I asked for or I'm leaving." At which point he confesses that they don't have the shoes in my size, but they will order them for me. "No thanks, I'll order them myself somewhere else. Have a good day."

Screw that guy! Trying to make a sale no matter what. So I sat in the parking lot and called other stores that said they had them in stock within a 40 mile radius (how far I could drive and back before I had to get the kid from school). I was willing to drive, I want my damn shoes! No luck.

So I went home, ordered them online with overnight shipping for the same price I would have paid in the store. So hopefully tomorrow or Monday at the latest I'll have my shoes!

Well holy shiz did I just teach myself a very important lesson.

On almost no sleep (less than 2 hours), no carbs consumed, and not enough nutrition at all - I just induced the worst 1 mile bike ride I ever experienced. It was just horrible. My thighs were locking up, my entire body just felt ****ty. When I was done I wasn't willing to just sit down and be miserable so I walked about a mile to losen back up.

REST. NUTRITION. PERIOD. LESSON LEARNED! This ain't no damn game, this is my life, this is real. Take it seriously or GTFO, Max! Rest. Nutrition. They have to be priorities. I never want to feel that way after ONE MILE on a bike again. Jesus!

So I decided that I'm "Going Clean" for the duration of this. What this means to me is:

* No Smoking
* No Soda
* No "Fast food"
* No Sweets / Candy / Chips / Junk food in general.
* No Alcohol.

My first alcohol will be the beer they hand me when I cross the finish line!

Don't be too harsh, Max. You might be having a rough day. Admirable goals/plan, but should you slip up on the food, forgive yourself. Don't forgive the smokes -those are just nasty and you must stop!

I haven't smoked in a few months... I go through phases. Just have to keep myself on the Not-smoking phase, wont be too hard.

And the rest of it isn't that bad. I'm sure that bad food will get in there some, but not in those forms. I'm fully confident in my ability to achieve and maintain that list.

I consider everything I've done so far as "pre-training" and tomorrow day 1! I am pretty geeked and feeling really good.

I also just realized that "no smoking" means no more hookah. I am one sad little hookah lover, but I know that I can't just smoke it a little and smoking it a lot will totally undermine my goals. So see ya next year, little hookah buddy!

No journal action today? Where is everybody? *pouts*

Today was good for me. Got everything in I needed to. Not to mention, my new shoes came today. They are super awesome. The best part is, when wearing them I have no issue with my ankle at all. No pain in any position.

Food was on point, got all my training in that I had planned for the day. Well, I wasn't able to bike. The tire is flat and I can't just pump it, I have to buy a new tube me thinks. So I tossed the bike aside and walked/jogged until I had to get back to work instead. I don't care what happens, I don't care if things aren't quite what they are planned to be, I will stay on point, I will progress.

I've been taking a different approach with my sleep schedule as well, and it's pretty simple. I sleep when I need to sleep as long as I need to sleep for. Obviously there are things I have to be awake for (work, getting the kid to school) and I set the alarm in case I sleep too late but that hasn't come close to happening.

I KNEW I was getting sick with how tired I've been, damnit! Last night my throat started feeling a little sore, then this morning during my walk it's for sure sore, but just a little. I'm not going to let it stop training so I will just stay very hydrated, eat well, and rest whenever I need to. Hopefully this is why I've been so tired lately and will be able to get back on my normal sleep schedule once this all clears up.

Took the kid to the park, wanted her to get outside and have some fun. I actually got quite the workout in. They had some balance beams (you know kids love that) so I was able to do those for awhile, monkey bars, etc. And of course, had to spend some time getting high on the swings and jumping off. Can't go to the park without doing that.

Overall I am feeling really good. My body is feeling better and each day I do what I set out to do, my anxiety and general stress lessens. I'm really glad I started working on this stuff. One thing I found as well is once I decided to "go clean" and set those parameters, I've had very little problem sticking to it. Been pretty cool.

Hey Max,

Your day in the park sounds so fun - I love all the playground equipment! We went to a niece's wedding in CA a couple of years ago and there was a park near our hotel - we spent a lot of time on the tricky bars. I loved it so much that I had some bars welded for T's birthday and we planted them in the yard. Sometimes we do 'serious' stuff - chin-ups/pull-ups/work toward muscle ups, burpees with pull-ups (pure evil those!), but I spent as much time hanging upside down or doing spins like I used to do in gradeschool.

Hope you don't get really sick - just had a flu epidemic in AZ. Take good care of yourself!

Nothing special to report today, followed my plan. It's starting to get easier to do the things I need to do when I need to do them each day. Eating on plan, working out on plan. Feelin happy.

I really don't have anything special to say but I'm in a great mood so wanted to update. This is really what I needed in my life right now. Food on point, training on point, life getting better.

It is FLOODED where I am. Police are saying you shouldn't drive unless unavoidable and the expressways are closed down. Still went for my morning walk, was fun! Wanted to take the kid out later but not sure that's going to happen, she doesn't even have school today because of the flooding.

Puddle jumping? Sounds fun!

Stay safe.

Haha, when we go for our walk tonight I think we'll be doing some of that!

I told the kid we could go out for pizza today, but with all the flooding I ordered pizza in. I planned ahead for what i would eat and make sure it fit in my plan. So that worked out well. Nice to be making healthy choices in every day situations and still enjoying life with the wee one.
