Weight-Loss Luck of the Irish Challenge (2/3/10-3/17/10)

Weight-Loss
This challenge and stereotypes are amusing for me. I live in Ireland.

Not doing the challenge because can't keep track of all of them!!

Luck of the Irish to you all!

Week 3

Week 3 symbol:

Irish%20Walking%20Stick.jpg

Shillelagh, or Irish walking stick. In addition to being a walking stick,
the shillelagh was also used in stick fighting. At one point, it was
banned for the Irish to carry weapons, but that did not stop the
men of Ireland from strolling the streets with their walking sticks.

In the spirit of the walkingstick, this week's challenge will to
get some exercise in! Earn 1 pt for each day you get in a minimum
of 30 minutes of exercise
. Allow yourself 1 day off, so the maximum
points for this challenge will be 6pts.

This week's symbol:

The Celtic Cross- legend has it that
St. Patrick introduced this symbol, combining the Christian Cross
with the sun cross, to give pagan followers a link between the
importance of the cross, and life giving properites of the sun.
Many historians dispute this theory, however.

This week's challenge is to provide your body with all the vitamins,
minerals and nutrients it needs. A vitamin or other supplement is
ideal, but if that is not for you, be sure to eat the right foods to
give you body what it needs! Allow 1 pt per day that you
complete the vitamin challenge.

THis week's Challenge

This week's symbol:

This ancient folk instrument has been around for centuries. Legend has it that the first Irish harp was owned by Dagda, a chief among his peoples. The melodies were so poignant, it could make his audience weep, smile or even sleep. These harps are much smaller than the large pedal harps, originally being played on the lap of the musician. The word harp has its root in Anglo Saxon- meaning to "to pluck". The harp became a national emblem to Ireland part due to the fact that Queen Elizabeth I issued a proclamation to hang Irish harpers and destroy their instruments to prevent insurrection.

This weeks challenge is to drink your water. According to the MayoClinic, men should consume @13 cups of beverages a day, and women @8 cups of liquid. This week's challenge will be to consume 1/2 of your recommended fluids in water. Allow yourself 1 pt per day that you meet this challenge.

Final Week!

this week's symbol:
claddagh_hands_heart.gif

The history of the Claddagh ring dates back to over 300 years. A small fishing village in Ireland called the Claddagh was where the tradition of the Claddagh rings first started. The word Claddagh itself comes from the Irish term 'An Cladach' that means a 'flat stony shore'.

The Claddaugh: Love, Loyalty & Friendship
In many instances, this symbol is created in a ring, and given as a gift to loved ones. However, this symbol should also be significant for yourself- love yourself and loyal to your goals, be a friend to you mind and body by making healthy choices.

This week's challenge is for you to focus on yourself, reminding yourself why you are working so hard and why you are worth the effort. For each day you give yourself a peptalk, or just a little mantra in the mirror award yourself 1 pt for each day.
