Would anyone be interested in starting a long-term Valentine's Day Challenge?
Yesterday was 3 months exactly until Valentines Day 2008 so it could be nice to start something early...for awesome results by then.

DETAILS
--> There will be 13 weigh-in's after you post your starting weight by the end of the week
--> You will need to set a realistic goal for yourself
--> A points system will be introduced to keep track of who is doing what
--> The two weeks around Christmas and New Years will be a tough period. Thats why hard work will be rewarded with points earned being doubled at that time!

Remember to BE REALISTIC. You have 13 weeks/three months. Players will be able to enter this challenge until the end of the month - after that no more entrants will be allowed. Those who enter early are clearly at an advantage.

POINTS SYSTEM
2 points per 15 minutes of exercise
3 points for every 0.5lbs lost
5 points for every 1lb lost
2.5 points for every 1% of Total Body Weight Lost --> These points are only added at the half-way mark, as well as at the last weigh in - so when doing weekly points just ignore this.

The same points go for WEIGHT GAINED.
-3 points for every 0.5lbs gained
-5 points for every 1lb gained
If Total Body Weight Lost increases, you simply get 0 points at the halfway mark.

The exercise can add up infinitely, right? So 30 min one day is 4 points for that day, rather than a max of 2 points per day or week?

Weight loss points are per week, and not cumulative, so if you lose 1 pound in a week, you get 5 points, not 3 for half a pound and 3 for half a pound, or 3 for half a pound and 3 for half a pound and 5 for a full pound? If you lose 1.5 pounds in a week, you get 8 points, or the max for a week is 5? If you regain, do you lose points, or can you yo-yo the same 2 pounds up and down and still get 10 points every other week?

Exercise is indefinite, yes. So it is basically daily --> If you work out for 30 minutes, you get 4 points immediately. Do another 30 later that day and you get 4 more. So that can just add on.

With the weight loss - If you lose 1.2 then you get 5 points rather than 3+3 (6). But if it is 1.6 then you get 5+3 (8).
I forgot to add the losing of points. I think it should be the same just into the negatives. So -3 for every 0.5 lbs, and -5 for every 1lb gained.

Is it simply per minute out walking - or is it so many points per mile?

I do a lot of walking as part of my weight loss project.

Hey Margaret, I think it's 2 points per every 15 minutes. So if you do an hour of walking it would be 8 points. Or if you do 3 hours of walking ;) that would be 24 points.

Bwahaha. 14 days at Disney World right before Christmas (courtesy of my daughter's generous grandparents) = about 10 hours a day of walking = 560 points! ;) I think I'm going to take a pedometer and convert to 15 minutes per mile walked, in lieu of taking a stopwatch and counting the time I spend moving forward (as opposed to sitting on a ride or standing in line).

Precisely - you are the only one who knows how much you need to do to get to that goal. So thats why its 2 points for 15 minutes whether it is running/walking/swimming or whatever. I know I have to RUN so if you know you have to walk you shouldn't be earning less than me because my routine "is more intense" so to speak.

I am hopefully gonna get some points in the next 24hrs, just been so busy. But eating healthily! :D
 
I'm going re-evaluate my goals because I just started this challenge yesterday, but I didn't use my current weight. I used the weight from my personal weigh-in from last week. I weighed myself today and realized that I'm almost half way to my goal already because I lost 5 lbs this week after working out really really hard.
