Lingwo's WL Log

Not bad for a Hotel gym, most hotel gyms are not great, and unusual for one to have a squat rack.

Yeah it is. I travel about 30% for work (pre-COVID) so have seen a lot of bad hotel gyms. I did retain a membership in a better gym not far from here, but for now I'm happy easing into it here. I saw your gym in the thread, and it looks amazing.

I don't mind sharing the gym but I love having the pool to myself. :)

I like having people around the gym when I'm in a good routine and am confident in my lifts - I feel it motivating seeing people in better shape than me or lifting more than I can. But right now some of the lifts like Squats and Deadlifts that I a suck at I want to master alone haha

Oct 9/20 Weight: 200.6lbs (-1.2lbs /- 3.0lbs)

Yesterday's Macros: 156g Protein / 169g Carbs / 50g Fat = 1753cal
Yesterday's Training: Nothing really, just normal activity

Notes:

It's Friday, and I'm taking the day off from work. This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and Monday is also a holiday, so I'll have 4 days off which is nice. Hopefully i don't get too many calls or emails.

I'm due for Workout A again today, so I will likely go later this morning, also planning to go for a nice long relaxing walk. I've got some other errands to run, so this should be a productive day. Hopefully I can sleep in tomorrow and not do much.

Weight loss has been going okay. I know it's only been 5 days, and the initial few lbs are always easy - but I haven't been tempted by food at all yet. I'll be happy to be back in the 190s, so hopefully by the end of this weekend.

On a personal note, I did have the screening call yesterday. It seems like it would be an okay opportunity, and it's closer to my parents and siblings (I moved 6000+ km away for my current role). I just don't know if the money will be enough to justify me leaving.

Hi, Lingwo. Thanks for visiting my diary. I hope the new job possibility does eventuate as it will be nice for your family to be closer. I am really grateful to have both of our sons still living within 2.5 hours of us. They both travelled the world, worked overseas but came back. Family is everything to me.

Hey Lingwo, good to see you doing well. You are so close to the 200 lb line, I know it will feel good to get past that.

I know your Thanksgiving is a lot earlier than ours, but I don't know much about it. Do you have turkey and pumpkin pie? You you have a legend to go with it that is anything like our Pilgrim and Indian story? I don't think there is much truth to our Thanksgiving myth, but it makes for a good story.

Good luck with the job decision thing, I know that kind of thing can be hard. I am sure you will figure out what is best for you. What part of Canada are you in, and what part do your parents live in? I have been to some places in Canada, but not so many as I would like. You have a very nice country, a great place to visit, in summer anyway.

Thanks Rob!

I don't know the full Thanksgiving story to be honest. We do have turkey though. My idea of Thanksgiving is just to spend time with family and be thankful we live in a free country.

I live in Calgary, Alberta and my family live in Newfoundland. Canada definitely has a lot of diversity in what it has to offer, I've spent time in all 10 of the provinces and they are all unique in their own ways. I need to spend more time in the US; so far I've been to NY, FL, MI, IL, WI, and CA. I spent a week in Wisconsin last year working at an air show, I love how patriotic Americans are. Any time a fighter jet would fly overhead someone would say "That's the sound of freedom!" lol. I did have a trip to NOLA booked for earlier this year but had to cancel due to COVID. I'll be down there sometime in 2021 I hope.

Oct 10/20 Weight: 200.0lbs (-0.6lbs /- 3.6lbs)

Yesterday's Macros: 167g Protein / 142g Carbs / 84g Fat = 1988cal
Yesterday's Training: Workout A... added 10lbs to both my bench and squat :)

Notes:

Ok, I'm as close as I can to be back in the 190s without actually being there.

Yesterday I did wind up baking some chicken wings I had in the fridge. They weren't breaded, so I saved on carbs. But, as you can see my fat content was higher than it should be. I'll go a little lighter on fats today. Yesterday's workout went well, I still have to initially drag myself to go to the gym, but once I'm there I feel pretty good.

Today I have an empty schedule. I'm sure I will do some things, but it is really nice to have a day every so often where you have no obligation to be at any place for a certain time.

I am all about taking a day off from everything every so often Lingwo. I like to fit in a nap on those kind of days. Hope you enjoyed it.

Maybe everyone has to drag themselves to the gym at a certain point. It's one of the things you never regret dragging yourself to though, at least in my experience.

Never been to Newfoundland, it appears to be a great place. I do plan to visit one (summer) day. I have been to Calvary several times and like the area. I now live in northern Utah, Calvary reminds me a bit of Salt Lake. I really like New Orleans, you should try to get there, great place to visit, but the food is dangerously good.

You will be below 200 before you know it, keep up the good work.

Week 1 Recap:

Oct 11/20 Weight: 200.6lbs (+0.6lbs /- 3.0lbs)

Yesterday's Macros: 162g Protein / 170g Carbs / 52g Fat = 1798cal
Yesterday's Training: No Training, Workout B scheduled for Monday

Notes:

Gr, back to 200.6lbs. Avatar has adjusted my macro targets to 167g of Protein, 151g of Carbs, and 61g of Fat. Overall, week 1 of logging here has been very helpful. Reporting out my macros daily and knowing some of you check in is definitely helpful in making sure I don't go overboard. So, thanks for helping me!

Despite not getting sub-200lbs, I still did lose 3lbs which was nice. I feel like I will definitely get below 200 at some point this week. I'm going to go grab a tape measure today and follow Err's lead in using the Navy method to estimate Body Fat %. I found out I can get a DEXA scan completed for about $60 here, but I need a doctors requisition. So, I may look at getting that done quarterly, just need an excuse to ask the Dr to sign a requisition.

Once I establish my baseline BF%, I'll be able to make a better game plan for my second goal. I would like to be around 13% body fat, but I don't want to weigh less than 170lbs at any point. I will probably have to do a couple of cutting and bulking cycles.

Today I've got Thanksgiving dinner, I will try not to overdo it, and estimate calories as best I can.

I bet you're building some muscle to offset your fat loss right now so it'll be nice to track your body fat %. Interesting that you need a doctor's referral for the scan - I hope that's not too much trouble.

My guess is that because I'm in Canada and most healthcare is public, the DEXA machine is probably government subsidized so they don't want it being blocked up for leisure use. I have got a DEXA done a few times in the past, but it was a part of a genome study at the university I attended.

I just measured myself with a tape, and I'm estimating a BF% of 29.9% with a lean mass of 140.7lbs and fat mass of 59.9lbs. So, by my goal weight of 175lbs if I manage to maintain 90% of my LBM and cut the rest from BF I'll still be at around 21%. We'll see if I can get ahead of the curve a little bit.

Based on the BF% estimate, my macros this week have been revised to 157g P, 161g C, 61g F based on my lean body mass.

Oct 12/20 Weight: 199.6lbs (-1.0lbs /-4.0lbs)

Yesterday's Macros: 145g Protein / 169g Carbs / 66g Fat = 1854cal
Yesterday's Training: Nil

Notes:

I'm officially back in the 190s.. I'm already looking forward to seeing the 180s.

I survived yesterday's thanksgiving dinner without leaving calorie range, though I did go a little high on carbs and fats. I had a couple of drinks (Michelob Ultra and a Scotch); I split the calories from alcohol evenly between carbs and fat so I could allocate better.

After two days off, it's back to Workout B today.

great job!
Congrats on getting into the 190s! Well done on staying on track on Thanksgiving, not an easy task!
Congratulations on reaching Onederland!
Well done, Lingwo. :)

Thank you! I'm normally in the 190s, occasionally get above 200s - aggressively diet until I'm back into the mid-190s and gradually get back above 200 again. But, I think the plan right now is more sustainable, and posting here helps. I'm more excited for the 180s because I haven't been there in probably a couple of years.

Oct 13/20 Weight: 199.6lbs (-0.0lbs /-4.0lbs)

Yesterday's Macros: 139g Protein / 135g Carbs / 78g Fat = 1797cal
Yesterday's Training: Workout B.. Added weight to all lifts!
Supplementation: 5000 IU Vitamin D + Multi Vitamin

Notes:

Held flat on the scale this morning (though I weighed in 199lbs the first time.. when I re-weighed I was back at 199.6lbs despite not drinking or eating). Ah well, it's fine.

The workout yesterday felt good. When I've had gym kicks in the past I have gone lifting 6 days a week, and I definitely think there's a law of diminishing returns in play there. Right now, I think 3x weekly is working for strength, I was able to add weight to all of my lifts - and I think I'll be able to continue to add this week.

It's -1 right now, which means the -30 days of January won't be too long away. So I'll try and get all of the outdoor activity I can before winter sneaks up on me. I also need to go buy a set of winter tires for my vehicle, it will be interesting to see how expensive this will be. I bought a German car earlier this year, and I'm finding routine maintenance is far more expensive than any of the Japanese or American cars I've had in the past.

Oct 14/20 Weight: 199.8lbs (+0.2lbs /-3.8lbs)

Yesterday's Macros: 164g Protein / 152g Carbs / 69g Fat = 1882cal
Yesterday's Training: Rest.. Workout A later today
Supplementation: 5000 IU Vitamin D + Multi Vitamin

Notes:

I seem to be stalling a bit right now, though my calorie intake was a little higher yesterday. The plan is to keep going with a target caloric intake of 1800 and 157g of protein and we'll review if things don't start moving again by Sunday.
