Let's do this

We don't have over the counter Melatonin either, here in Aus. My son gets his on prescription. He has found it helps him get to sleep, but he wakes after a few hours. He's currently trying my sedating AH to see if it works better for him. The one I use is Phenergan 10mg tablets (promethazine hydrochloride).

I've been prescribed a short course of phenergan in the past a couple of times. It really does do a good job of knocking you out especially when you don't want to be given anything addictive.

Modified tuna nicose salad, spoon of cream cheese, 30g brasil nuts. 45g fat, 29g protein 8g net carbs. 599 calories.

Yesterday was day 10 of the diet, and according to the Carb Nite Solution diet you are allowed a cheat evening tonight (then once a week til maintenance where it's twice a week). You aren't supposed to have more than a couple of drinks, but I got drunk on some vodka, tore into a baguette and two coconut pastries which I made (it's recommended to make carb night meals yourself). I enjoyed the baguette, but the pastries were so sweet they made me feel sick so I don't know why I continued to eat them. I keep shuddering today at the thought of the sweetness. My appetite has increased today, I would usually be stuffed on half the amount.

I measured my waist and have lost almost two inches, it can't all be fat but I'm thinking its reduced inflammation and water and the physical volume of food.

No calories today, I'm not going to do that to myself!

Oh my goodness haha, that is the lowest tolerance ever :) But yeah it is good, cheap, no real calories.

My weighing scale battery has run out and that's probs a sign from the universe I'm weighing myself too blimming much. I have a spare but not going to replace it. Will weigh on a calibrated machine out of the house.

Ate a lot yesterday and so am going to fast for as long as comfortably possible to reset my appetite.

Cheese burger in lettuce bun with coleslaw
Cheese, onion and mushroom omelette
A shit ton of sugar free Jello

1418 calories, 110 fats, 15g net carbs, 85g protein.

That´s a very decent amount of protein for suck low calories! I haven´t had jello in ages; maybe I´ll make that my weekend treat.

I messed up :leaving:

I don't know if anyones read Alan Carrs stop smoking book, where he says cutting down or having the occasional cigarette just makes them more special, rare scarce and precious? That you will fixate on that cigarette and psychologically assign it far more importance than it ever had before? Well, I think I did that with my carb nite meal, for sure. The ridiculous thing is that my unregulated diet included yes, a regular packet of cookies but I absolutely never stuffed baguettes and pastries down my throat and had this deep need to eat 'bad' things.

The thing with ketosis is that the 'Eff it, I've ruined my diet, no point trying any more' is more pronounced than any other diet because physically you aren't in that state of ketosis that was SO difficult to achieve in the first place.

I'm disappointed in myself. I'm disappointed in the diet. I was eating less than 1k calories a day and not even hungry before carb nite. I think I would rather have a lower BMR and not carb cycle, if having a treat meal means this diet is a lot more psychologically challenging.

Insulin is produced on a sliding scale to shuttle carbs to their final resting place within your body. So the less carbs, or more complex carbs equals less insulin. I don't have to be in actual ketosis to real the benefits of a low carb diet.

Big sigh... little pause... but never quiting

Don´t beat yourself up: you tried something and found out it doesn´t work the way you expected. That means you learned something, not that you messed up. Also: less than 1,000 kcal a day is a very small amount to get all the nutrients you need and probably made it harder for your body to resist overeating when energy was suddenly around again.

I never stop learning & have made mistake after mistake. We all have to find what suits us, not someone else.
Big sigh, pick yourself up, give yourself a mental hug & keep on keeping on :grouphug:

Thank you guys x

I feel a lot better in myself now. I'm just relieved this keto thing is over.

Yesterday I had three small tortilla steak fajitas and two slices of peanut butter on multigrain toast.

Today so far two small steak fajitas and two meal replacement drinks.

Don't be alarmed at your weight suddenly jumping up after reintroducing carbs: that's just the water weight returning.

I am sorry it did not work for you, as LaMaria said, it would have been mostly water weight gain, the big water weight loss at the start of keto is reversed when you suddenly have a heap of carbs. Keto is a lifestyle, not a short term diet, having a carb meal is counter productive in most situations for keto. Some athletes will have a carb meal in either a TKD or CKD eating pattern, primarily for training performance and due to the intensity of training the carbs are basically used up by the end of training or the event, most people do not work that hard during exercise.

I'm back up to 96.5 kilos again :(

Have had a really big appetite this week. I really do enjoy salads and fruit and veg tho, so I went shopping today and stocked up on some.

I feel like starting this entire diary again.

I’m glad I kept my original diary as I can go back & see where I have been. If you want to change it’s name just let me know :)
Don’t give up Gold. This weight-loss stuff is not easy but if we can find something that we can stick to that is healthy & we enjoy it we will be better for it.

Seconding what Cate said. It took me a good while to figure out what works for me but right now I can´t imagine ever NOT eating the way I am eating now (and I´m still losing weight).
