I was tired of being a college bum. I ran a 12 minute mile, had a flabby midsection and no muscle mass was 20 at the time and 170 something lbs. I was not fat, but I was not active or in shape.

I got motivated due to my career choice. I decided i want to be a police officer, and Im not going to get there being a typical college kid.

For the next year I got in shape. I then went to the police academy and got in even better shape.

Im 22 now and In great shape in comparision to the majority of America. Im not the best most defined person out there, but it comes down to my goals.

I pushed my limits in the academy because I had to. When Im working out, its for fun and overall fitness. Ill run that extra mile, or lift that extra weight, but I wont do it to the risk of hurting myself. I have nothing to prove to anyone.

So long as I can scale that fence, chase that guy and fight for my life, then Im right where I want to be.

I dont judge others for the lifestyle choices. It does bother me that none of my friends will go for a run with me, or that I dont have a gym partner. My cop friends will. But thats another story.

If you want to live your life on the couch...just merely existing, then its your choice. This is America. Whether or not it is pretty, is another story.

Why I chose to answer your post in a long winded story, I dont know. I just started typing and couldnt stop. haha :D

All the time for me. Whether I'm lifting weights or doing HIIT, I push myself to the max, every single time. I have a hard time doing steady state runs without sprinting for half the time. When I'm walking to class, it just feels good to feel good, if you know what I mean. I just love having the ability to do what I want, without any chance of stopping me. Fitness rocks...

Amen, dude. When i'm walking in the halls and see some of the scrawny, lazy, or fat dudes, i feel superior to them. Push yourself hard or don't do it at all.

True for most of the time, but sometimes it not as simple as that.

People are grown up differently and experience different a lot of things.

A lot of people that may have been subject to difficult times such as abuse or death often resort to food, as food allows them to relax and feel good about themselves. Some people grown up as fat and dont have the knowlege, selfesteem, money, motivation or support.

Dont judge a book by its cover, im sure your not perfect, and the things your not perfect rnt as obvious as overeating.

Well said matt rep+

Word, lets put some perspective on obesity. Now dont get me wrong I dont condone poor eating habits or anything like that but what I believe is that everyone should be known before they are judged and judge people like you would like to be judged.

Its a horrible thing to not be happy in your own body and it makes it even worse when people look down on you and feel superior to you. When I see a person really pushing themselves no matter what there situation is I praise them.

When you see someone that doesnt look to good their eyes are to the ground just think how they feel before you bag them for being lazy how hard it is to get motivated when there seems like so much to do.

Im not saying anyone here is like that I would just like to put this idea in the head of the people that do treat others like s*&*

Peace.

Thanks NBS glad you feel the same,

I personally would never put anyone or make anyone feel inferior, i love to help people and thats why i contribute on this forum. When i see quite overweight people jogging by themselves i find that really inspiring and encouraging.

So keep it up! :)

So what about when that scrawny guy creates the cure for cancer one day because he spent his time studying rather than working out? Or are you gonna feel superior when he sets up his own software company and makes enough money to buy New York?

Different people have different goals so don't start thinking that yours are better than everyone elses.

Absolutely. One of the best things you can learn to do in life is to empathize and show compassion for a person and his situation. It can be nasty when you fail to do that enough times that life throws you into that exact situation so that you learn, first-hand, how to relate and how to do so without judgment.

Exactly, not everyone is so concerned about having the perfect body. Everybody has different passions in life as hard as some of them can be to understand.

I'm glad to see that not everyone believes it's as simple as being lazy if you're not in shape.

When it comes to obesity, laziness is one of the larger factors for sure. However, there is also depression & other health issues, genetic tendency, personal experiences w/ food/exercise, taught lifestyles & behaviors, personal goals that don't include fitness.....

Of course, overall, most of the time, out of shape people just don't choose to do it. They shouldn't sit around griping about being overweight if they do nothing to change it, but we shouldn't judge them for it either.

Truly lazy people always annoy me, I mean the real lazy types, not the skinny type or obese people but the lazy ones. The ones that don't walk slow on the sidewalk because they don't walk anywhere ever, the ones that drive to 7-11 a block away. The type that always have a McDonalds bag with them, everytime I see them in my building elevator coming up from the parkade, no doubt after having gone through the drive thru because it is far too much of a chore to make anything remotely healthy or to go to any of the numerous places on our block that serve a healthy meal but require you to stroll over there.

I tend to think that there's a very good chance that stuff is going on with people like the slow walkers, and I'm not privvy to that information. They might have very legitimate problems or concerns or illnesses, and those things cause them to walk slowly, to take life more slowly. Unless you know them, isn't it hard to know?

Nothing helps to drive that point home when you go through it yourself (for whatever reason) or when you see your once-robust/fast-moving family/friends slow way, way down because of sickness or chronic symptoms. My one friend is 28 and outwardly, she looks fine. She walks slowly, she talks slowly, she eats very slowly. It was annoying to someone who didn't know her and who only observed those things about her; he didn't realize that she's in stage IV of non-hodgkins lymphoma.

As for McDonalds food, well, so much can be said about that. It's fast. It's convenient. It's CHEAP. And, best of all for Corporate McDs, it's addicting. The perfect temptation for so many people who maybe don't have too many choices.

This thread has all sorts of different views from different people.

If you asked 10 people to describe a lazy person, you would probably get 10 different answers.

You think lazyness is walking slow or eating loads and not exercising?

There were programmes on in the UK of people doing house clearances of people evicted from homes.

You know what they found?

Mugs and bottles full of p!55 under the bed because the 'lazy' person could not be bothered to go to the toilet.

S**ts in pizza boxes in the living room stashed in cupboards.

Now THAT is lazy!!!!!

There is also another programme on called half tonne hospital.

I guess some people would class these as lazy,

It was all about obeseity. The people all had their own backgrounds and their reasons for being obese.

There was one woman who had such a large belly she hadnt washed underneath there for months. Lets just say, I was eating my dinner whilst watching this!

Just because you're skinny doesn't mean your lazy. I know alot of skinny people that could easily out run me, out high jump me, or swim better than me. Same thing with big (some call fat) guys. A 275 senior at my school, he isn't the most cut person in the world, but he broke the state squat record 3 times at a single competition. He still has a competition next month where he's going to destroy it. From people not knowing him, he might look fat, but you tell me how many ppl that look fit can squat 675. Exactly.

I don't treat people that aren't fit worse than me. Even my friends that don't do any sports, I don't feel superior at all. They're probably better than me in other ways that they could easily feel superior as well.

On the idea of pushing yourself, one piece of advice from AnimalPak was to always workout with somebody stronger than you. It helps you push yourself and not settle. So far, I've been lifting with either a 210 or other big guys, and believe me, I've pushed myself far beyond my limits in the weight room.

BTW, I like to consider myself a Gym Warrior as well...haha

yea that is a good way to push yourself but unfortunantly theres no powerlifting team at my school and nobody works out with me. but when i do workout, i think of the guys at school who ARE stronger than me and it pisses me off.

i personally know what it is like to be fat and discouraged. "Do onto others as you would like to be done onto you."
im sure you dont like people thinking that theyr better than you. i personally dont have that high self esteem and it doesnt help when people feel that theyr better just because they can do something i cannot.

the modest will be rewarded while the self rightous are being condemned
