It has the tare feature, but it also has an internal database of 999 foods that you can enter into the scale to get exact calorie & nutrition information for what's on the scale (calories,fat,carbs,etc,etc...). You can also enter in nutrition info from the package label too.
I think they go for $75, but from what I've seen so far, it's worth it.
