Weight-Loss Kitchen Scales

Weight-Loss
i have a salter that i've had for years that I love (i originally used it when bread baking was my hobby) it's accurate - a little expensive but it lasts and lasts.

the one feature you want your scale to have is the TARE feature - that's wehre ouo can reset the scale to 0 when there's something on it.. like a plate or something.. just makes for more accurate measureing.. and have a measuring plate big enough for your needs - some are quite small and well things can tip

Do you weight meat raw or cooked? good scale?

hey all,

I'm buying another food scale, broke my last one a while ago. I thought you were supposed to weigh your meet

uncooked right? So then you just get a scale with a bowl that you can clean out right?

any good suggesstions?

Even if you don't want to get a scale with a removable bowl, you can just throw a piece of wax paper or plastic-wrap on it first.

most nutrition databases will tell you whether you're weighing food cooked or uncooked...

and almost all scales have a TARE feature which will let you put a plate down on the scale and then press the Tare button which resets it to 0 so the plate weight doesn't count..

scalesssss...

i just bought a Salter nutri-weigh 1450 from bed bath and beyond, and I love it!! It does have the tare feature, to zero out the weight of the bowl or whatever else you are using, and it also has a memory feature, so you can keep track of what you have eaten that day, and how many calories you have left for your daily allottment, etc. Its amazing!! Rather pricey at about 100 bucks, but if you use a coupon, its only 80!! Definitly worth it!!

I got my food scale (and it comes with a tray) at the dollar store! I'm loving it!!

i bought the cheapest one i could find , which happened to be at walmart i think they were $4.80 ish.

They aren't digital but they are accurate enough for me to measure my meats and vegetables etc pretty well.

I'd love some digital ones but haven't found any good ones locally, so would also like to hear what digital scales people own and costs etc.

I have the cheapy digital Salter, I think it was $19.99. It's kind of small but a small plate does fit on it. Usually I weigh stuff out in a small plastic tub. I use it all the time, especially when adding stuff like cheese or meats to salads. I toss the salad and container on the scale, hit tare and start adding ingredients.

I went ahead and paid $35 for a chefmate food scale at Target.

It's really nice design wise -- it looks cool, which goes with my cool looking kitchen -- and it's really easy to use. It's a flat surface, so I can just put food on top of it, without worrying about bowls or other things. It has the TARE feature which is sooooo cool.

Last night I was just using it to weigh out some beef I had to freeze.

At work, I use the postage scale!!!!!

why you don't really want to put food directly on top of it -is the cleaning issue.. since the scale is electronic in nature... you dont want to submerge it in water or get it too wet... and food does contain bacteria... so you want to keep the scale as clean as possible

Mine is just a piece of glass. It's weird to explain, let's see if I have a link...

Wow, I can't find a picture of it on the web, either at Target (where I bought it) or Chefmate (the brand).

But for me, it's easy to clean, because it sits above the scale (the weighing part) a good 4 inches), I can wipe it clean with easily with a paper towel or spray (since I'm not getting the scale wet and the crumbs can just come into my hand, instead of the scale).

Oh, and because it's GLASS, it's actually really easy to wipe down -- I'm notoriously bad at doing the dishes, so with a bowl, I'd have to really wash it around. Here, I'll just put a bowl or paper towel or plate or bag (whatever), hit the TARE button, and then I get my weight -- in grams or pounds.

I never saw a scale this nice, honestly.

I really wish I had a link to show you.

i saw the one you area talking about. i opted for the cheaper one because i worried i would break the glass. i will most likely put a small piece of wax paper on top when i weigh food. i couldn't just sit it on top of the scale, that would gross me out.

I highly recommend getting a scale - any type will do. I use mine practically every day to weigh food. I especially like it when preparing a mixed meal like a salad or tacos. I'll put my plate or bowl on the scale, TARE the scale, put one ingredient on to measure out one serving, TARE the scale again and repeat. I think they are invaluable and worth every penny (no matter how many pennies you spend).

As for features - an English/Metric conversion button, a TARE button and rapid calculation of weight. You may also want to look at what kind of batteries it takes. Go to a local department store and try several out.

If you do get a scale, then I also recommend purchasing an extra set of measuring cups. A lot of serving sizes are also measured in terms of cups and faster to measure out than grams or ounces.

Food Scales

Where is somewhere I can find a good, cheap food scale? I'd especially like one with a calorie counter on it. Thanks!

I just bought a digital food scale on sale at Wal-mart. It's much more convienient then the manual one I bought, but the manual one I bought I've found was quite accurate as well. Whatever the case, I love my food scale. I would never go without it again.

I ended up getting a $10 Chefmate and I like it pretty well. I got it at Target.
