Kimberly's Diary - here goes nothin!

Ok I am going to try this out because I have heard such good things...
March 24th 2005 right after a break up with my fiance, I decided it was time to improve my body and my health so I started my own "program". I joined CA Family Fitness gym right across the street from my house and started watching what I ate. I am 18 and I went from 170 or so when I was 16 and single to 244 when I was 18 and engaged. I never was happy with my weight but really was not motivated to do anything about it. Well now after letting myself gain almost 80 pounds I decided it was time for a change, a BIG one. I want to feel good about myself and comfortable to go shopping for clothes again...and hell ever comfortable in wearing them with confidence! I have lost about 13 pounds and start this diary today at 232 pounds. I want to get down to 165 and maybe even more when I get there, 140 would be awesome. I have a lot of muscle naturally so I think I would look awesome at 140-165. I have been going to the gym daily. I do about 60 min of cardio daily and weight training every other day. I also have been doing my abs every day. I have cut my calories pretty low, around 1200. I think I still don't eat very well as in I don't eat very healthy food a lot of the time, but I only eat minimal amounts. I am looking for nutritional advice. I want to know what "clean" food means. If I eat "bad" food but still keep it under 1200 is that ok? You tell me, and suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated!
Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast: Cheerios - About 150 cal
Milk - about 150 cal

Lunch: 16oz Cranberry Craze Jamba Juice - 280 cal
Stacy's soy chips white Chedder - 100 cal

Snack - Special K Cran Apple bar - 90 cal

Dinner - Chicken Top Ramen (forgive me, I am a college student) - about 300
"Dessert" - 2 tootsie roll pops (I am SO addicted to these....) - 120
Random Grazing - 2 or 3 olives, a few chips, bite of cookie - I always assign about 100 calories to "random grazing"

Total - 1290
Exercise - 60 min on eliptical, worked on legs and abs today on weight machines, about 15 min of raquetball

SO guys what do you think? Is it ok to eat "bad" food in small portions or do I HAVE TO add more fruits and veggies and less top ramen and jamba juice....
Oh yeah, I had about 6 water bottles too for about 90 ounces of water.
And just so I remember every day, I took my pill (I take prozac and it seems to help a lot with the depression I was in after loosing my fiance), I also took my ortho and my gummy vites. Are gummy vites ok for vitamins? I take three b/c they recommend 2 for a four year old. Here is what I take -
I love these things and I actually look forward to my daily vitamins!

Well Kimberly, I want to say sorry for loosing your fiance. But I am a christian and it says in the bible "All things work together for good" I'm sure this 'loss' in your life will turn around to be the start of a new wonderful life!

As far as your calories are conserned. If your diet is 1200 cal's the main focus is to stay at or under that number. BUT you really have to give your body healthy foods! The whole point of eating is to provide your body fuel to help keep you going. Empty caloires arn't going to do it and may make the situation worse. I don't blame you for wanting to have some tootsie rolls here or there, I love to have a hershey kiss (25 cals each) for a snack. I love chocolate and I have found that having one will keep my cravings at bay. So please allow yourself a treat from time to time, but you really should focus on fruits and veggies!

It sounds like your doing great with water, keep it up!

I'm not too sure about gummyvites. If its meant for a child I find it hard to believe it would provide an adults amount of vitamins. Why don't you take a good multivitamin like Centrum, or a womans vitamin? OH-Also, juice can be good for you, they tend to be high in calories, but if you have the calories to spare then go for it.

Hope this was some help. But this was just my two cents worth so dont' write it in stone, do what you think is best!

BTW.... What exactly is that a picture of, I can't make it out

hey glad you started a diary :) i find that it really helps.
basically clean foods are foods that dont have any added sugar and stuff to them
like:whole wheat/grain products, brown rice,oatmeal(w/out all the sugar and fake fruit stuff)sweet potatoes or regular potatoes, lean protein like chicken, fish(like canned tuna or salmon),lean beef, cottage cheese is great one of the best things for you :) all vegetables, fruit, raw almonds and walnuts are very good for you too and EFA like omega-3,6,9,fish oils are good too.
if you eat "bad" food but keep it under 1200 cals youll still loose weight but its not a very good way to do it. youll find that if you introduce some "clean" foods into your diet youll be fuller longer and it'll be better for you in the long run.preservatives and chemicals in the "bad" stuff isnt always good for your body(although they taste pretty darn good sometimes lol)trans fats are really bad too.there is allot of info out there and its all pretty overwhelming you dont have to go hard core and eat clean all the time, but i do suggest you try it and you ll see a diffrence i know i did :D

to newbride (my son thought it was a cow lol)i looked at it and i think its a cat on its back

Kimberly,
Welcome to the forum! This a great place! I have found amazing support and inspiration here.
You sound positive about the changes you are making.
I agree with the other posts about making better choices and paying attention to the calories and portions.
I also agree with Newbride that perhaps you could look into a vitamin for woman because I'm not sure about the gummivites. Although, for one of my pregnancies I could not stomach the prenatals, so a midwife suggested I take (don't remember how many) Flinstone vitamins. I would be concerned that you may be over-vitamining yourself.
I look forward to your posts!

Today was an ok day. I asked this guy out who works at my gym (first time I have ever asked out anyone) but unfortunately he had a girlfriend. But either way, I am proud of myself for having the courage to do so! I was and still am feeling pretty down. I have been pretty good so far about the break-up but today was one of my lowest points. I heard a love song on at the gym that my X had put on the cd he made me for Valentines day....I started to cry right at the gym. Then I made a fool of myself for calling him and getting mad at him for leaving my so abruptly and not caring and blah blah blah.....anywho...basicly I was acting like a girl! lol j/k.
I ate ok today, stayed low on calories but didn't fit in much clean food.
Breakfast: Cherrios - 150 cal
Milk - 150 cal

Snack: Strawberry yogurt - 120

Lunch: three bites of a chicken/alvocado sandwich (yum!) - about 70 cal
Pina Colada smoothies with fiber - 220

Snack: sour cream and cheddar lite chips - 100

Dinner: Smart ones pepperoni pizza - 350

Dessert - Cocunut "whole fruit" popsicle (double yum!) - 130
tootsie roll pop - 60 cal

Total: 1350

Exercise: I took an "on the ball" class at the gym today. It used the big exercise balls. It was a lot of core training..pretty fun but was more work than I thought! I also did 60 min on the eleptical machine. Mostly arm work today with just a little leg work. I also did about 10 min of abs in the class and another 10 after.

Water: wasn't too good today, probly only about 60 ounces or so
Going to go take my pills now.

P.S. the pic is of my cat, Cami. She is upside down in her fav spot on my computer chair just before I kick her off lol.

hey there! glad to have you with us! I'm currently using the One-A-Day Weight Smart Multi-Vitamin. Not only is it a daily vitamin, but also has extra ecgg (or whatever that green tea extract is) for a weight loss supplement. It has been really helpful for me =) I actually buy the generic version at Walgreens and it's a bit cheaper =)

good luck with all you do, and congrats for having the courage to ask a guy out! girl, you are awesome!

Hey, welcome to the forum. This forum has been the best weight loss tool I've ever used and I love everyone on it.

So, everyone has given you sound advice about "clean" foods. The best advice I could give you or anyone is to train yourself to love fruits and veggies, whole grains, and lean meats. I myself am a vegetarian, so I get my protein from meat subsitutes, but for people who are not vegetarian lean cuts of chicken and fish can be good for you. Fruits and vegetables are key though. Cutting out empty calories and filling them with wholesome foods will make you feel really good. I find that when I'm busy or running low on money and I skimp on my wholesome foods I start to feel really awful. Trust me on this, your body will thank you for it.

You're doing awesome on exercise and making me feel ashamed of myself for skipping some of my workouts!

60 min on the treadmill!!!way to go! :)
i take those vitamins too, they're good but i find i need to take them w/ food or they make me sick(weird i know lol)

i've had the same experience with the one-a-day's... I usually take them after lunch or dinner so that I have a full stomach... and make sure you drink a full 8oz of water when you take them...

Sounds good, thanks for your experiences! I am gonna go look for them at walmart in the next few days. I tend to hate taking pills though if they are too big..are these big? If so, does anyone know of any that are smaller but still good? Thanks :)

P.S. I bought a more accurate weight watchers scale today and it says I weight 228.2. I started exactly one month ago at 244 on a scale at the gym.....damn thats 15.8 pounds in one month....wow all the hard work really payed off! I am just hoping I will continue to lose...I know I will but i'm sure it will slow down as I get going. The first month is always the best... lol. Some seriously good motivation for myself! We are going on our annual week and a half beach vacation August 1st...I wonder how good I can look by then....Three months. It would be awesome to loose 10 pounds a month until then bringing me all the way down to about 198. Does that sound possible? Hope so! :D
