Sport Juicing- contents?

Sport Fitness
In Juicing or in my case it may just be blending. But here's my questions.

Apples- I throw the whole thing in there, seeds skin, stem and all. My thought is the vitamins and minerals are in all of it.

Grapefruits - I throw some of the skin in, and all of the seeds and everything.

bananas- I throw the strings in there

Strawberries - I throw the green parts in there too.

MY FAMILY is saying that it is not healthy for me o be ingesting all the "trash" as they call it.

here is my secret recipe smoothie- One large yellow grapefruit (inclduing half of the peel) 4-5 strawberries, one complete green apple, a banana, one tomatoe, and a large squirt of honey, add water until blends well.

What are the nutrition people thoughts?

I prefer to eat fruits whole with fibre naturally and then drink water rather than blending or juicing them. The fibre also helps you feel fuller. How many calories are in that one "concoction"?

Apples-
I don't think that I would throw in the seeds and stems. The skin on the apple I believe has a lot of fiber, so i'd probably throw that in.

Grapefruits -
i don't think i'd put in the skin or seeds for this either...LOL!

Strawberries -
i don't think i'd put the green in either...hehe!

otherwise i think it sounds good.

I gotta bump this thread, because I just started using my Juicer that I got from our wedding. I actually believe they are great because you can make so many combinations, and it is a way for me to get a lot of nutrients from drak leafy greens like Kale and spinach. I did have that problem at first with the lack of fiber, however, I will still use the left-over pulp in another type of recipe...like whole wheat breads. I find they awesome when served over chicken or fish. Or, I will just use the pulp as a side dish to an entree...delicious.

I heart Juicing.

When I eat strawberries I just throw the whole thing in my mouth. I sometimes get looks...
Bananas, the stings are fine, but the peel will make you **** a thunderstorm. Citrus rhines are fine as far as I know, but don't go overboard. Seeds and stems are useless for the apple.

wait are you saying blending fruit lowers the fiber?

So you're using a blender right FF? Seeds and stem from apple, I wouldnt throw that in (unless you want an apple tree growing in your stomach lol) the peel, I dont know but my son eats lemons with the peel on. Stem on the strawberry, nothing wrong with that.

For some odd reason my wife gave me a juicer for Fathers Day. I havent touched it once but she was making some juices like (apple + carrot etc).

All I know is you should try this: http://training.fitness.com/healthy-recipes/what-do-you-think-smoothie-33239.html

I don't get it, though.

Why juice when you can eat it whole? Have you tried increasing your explosiveness in your jaw region?

I just bought the Breville juicer and I love it!!!!!!!! I throw cucumbers in almost everything, but I've made all kinds of juice concoctions including great veggie juices...Bloddy Mary included. I have also stirred in some protein powder to my juive for some extra protein. And I also keep all the puree and make breads, chutneys etc. Also, I freeze the puress in ice cube trays for smoothies (kids love them) and protein shakes. So in the end we're not throwing away any of the fruit and getting the fiber too. The breville juicer seperates the seeds and small pits so you don't have to de-seed anything. Watermelon rhind is actually great to add to your juice too. There are tons of juicing recipes on line but really you can't go wrong with your own experiments.
As for buying store bought 100 % juice, I would think that with the processing procedures in the factorois and then the shipping time to the stores your still better off juicing yourself esp. since a lot of farmers markets are offering fresh fruits and veggies now. Yup, I'm a fan of juicing!

The time taken to sit and eat an apple+orange+banana or throwing it into the blender and drinking it all and getting the same benefits.

p.s. You often lose almost all the fiber from juicing rather than just blending.

Notice I didn't say 'eat it whole and unaltered'. Only why would you juice it. I also didn't say anything about the jaw necessarily being the one in his mouth.

You may lose out on the fiber, but you can use that leftover pulp (the fiber) for other things that I listed in my other post. And you don't completely lose out on the fiber content of juicing, unlike the 100% juice from concentrate you get at the store.

You make a great point and taking the time to sit to eat all those things. Also, what if you don't like a certain fruit, or veggie, that you know you should eat. You can blend it or juice it with something(s) you do like.

yup! I am using a blender. And i am still throwing in the apple seeds. It is too much work to take them out, and i am still alive- just barely :)

for the orange peels- I start to take the peel off and if in that particular batch it comes off easy, i take it off, if not, in it goes.

AND evo- I am up to nearly a pint of cottage cheese every two days. You gave me that food over a year ago, and it has served me very well.

to add to this old "blending food" thread- I have found the yellow bell peppers make things very good. Also, justa dash of alph alpha sprouts will make ANYTHING taste like alph alpha sprouts.

FF

and P.s. i got one of them cool metal blenders with the thick glass container now, and it rules!!!
