Hi Everyone!!! My name is Jessica and I'm new to this forum. I've been reading a lot of the post out there and can't believe how much support you all give to people. I hope you will give me the same support cause I really need it.
I just move to Illinois 3 months ago and I guess have started to feel depressed. I can't find a job here (been looking everyday) and all my friends are back home so I feel kindda lost out here. Everything is unfamilar except FOOD. So I've been eating and eating, kind of an escape. But I looked in the mirror the other day and got sick. I can't keep doing this to my body. I must have gained 35 lbs in 6 months. That is CRAZY. I need some support, some kind of help to get me back down. I have started today eating better and I'm going this afternoon to join Curves. Any ideas on what works out there??? I've been on so many diets in the past and nothing really works. For awhile I was doing good but then I get these urges to binge and eat. What have you guys been doing to lose weight? I used to walk everyday but now it's getting to be winter (Chicago weather is COLD...Burrrrrr!) What can I do? Any input would be great. I will try to enter a food journal everyday so if you guys have any suggestions you can help me out. I really hope we ALL can meet our goals and I'm sure we can if we have the strive and support we need. I will be here for you all!!!

I have a personal goal to lose 10 lbs by Christmas...I know that will be hard with Thanksgiving coming up.....yummm, turkey, stuffing, pies, cookies (YIKES:eek: )

Morning Jessica and Welcome to the Forum. Glad you started a Journal its so much easier when you can post what you eat and then look back to know where you went right and wrong. Curves is awesome we have one here but havent had time to join so Im jealous. You will have to let me know how much you love it. 10 pounds seems like a reasonable goal by Christmas. You can do it. What kind of program are you doing. I just count calories and excercise of course. I will check in on you time to time and see how you are doing. Looks like you are motivated so thats awesome. Hi Jessica, Welcome! I'm kind of like Julie, I don't stick with a certain type of diet. It's more a matter of eating balanced meals, keeping the calories under control, and increasing physical activity. I've lost 37 pounds since mid-August. One thing I do everyday is go to FitDay.com It's a fabulous way to monitor your food intake, physical activity, nutrition levels and weight loss. It's so easy! Check it out. Between that, and the amazing people here, I have had more success than I ever thought I could. I've actually been coming here for about 3 months. Just re-registered under a different name. I was here as 2bigforTexas. Good luck, and feel free to open up and ask for help if you need it. You will find it here!
 
Hey Jessica, and welcome! Its great to see more people taking control of their lives and their bodies :)

There are lots of diets to choose from, like you mentioned, but the folks here seem to have good luck with calorie watching, as well as watching fat intake. Its also been scientifically proven that a low-fat diet is best for long-term weight loss and maintenance. Try and figure out how many calories you've been eating, and start off by reducing that number by 500 a day, because 3500 calories = 1lb of fat. Don't go too low though, because if you starve yourself, you just end up gimping your metabolism so that you don't actually burn anything you eat, you just store it.

Keep updating your journal, and know that we're all here to support everyone, including you!
 
Welcome and congrats on starting your own diary :) I'm with the rest of the ladies I don't stick to a particular diet. I stick to 1200 calories and I try to work out at least 5 days a week and I try not to eat anything past 7. Best of luck and we're here if you need us :)
 
Wow...Thank you everyone for your replies. Well today was day 1 and I think it is going good (so far). The day is not over though, I will try to be strong and resist all junk food temptations. I will post my journal tomorrow morning.

..........................Welcome to the family!.....Just getting on line and looking for a place to get support and motivation tells alot about ourselves. That we recognize we have a problem and that we know we cant get through it alone.
I myself am not on any kind of "diet".....I sometimes follow the weight watchers plan.....but lately here, I have just been watching my portion sizes and eating healthier.....and of course doing the lovely exercises......
You need to find what works for you....what are your problem areas?...Do you eat late at night?...drink alot of cokes?.....

KC~To answer your question I don't eat late at night, usually not past 8pm and I don't drink coke at all...I drink diet coke:D LOL. I don't drink as much water as I would like to but there are a few glasses a day that make there way in me. My biggest problem is eating throughout the day. I never had this problem while I was working but now I'm home all day, bored and there's nothing to do but eat. Back when I lived at home (TN) I would do work out videos and go to curves and eat healthier (salads, chicken breast, veggies, etc.) I watched my carb intake as well as my cals. I actually lost 63lbs. I felt GREAT!!! I had so much confidence in my self, but somehow I lost myself. See I would start it all over again here in IL (work out videos, eating better) but I'm living now with my Sister and her boyfriend and the boyfriend sits at home all day and he makes me feel uncomfortable, so I don't do anything. I want to find a place of my own but I need a job first so I guess I'm stuck for the time being.

I told everyone I was going to join Curves yesterday...Well I didn't. I had no motivation, it was so cold out and rainy. I know excuses, right!?! Well today is the day...I'm going to do it. I promise this time.

Here is what I ate yesterday:
B- 3/4 c. of Cheerios (no sugar)
1/2 grapefruit
1/2 skim milk
S- Low Fat Blueberry Yogurt
L- Large salad
2 T. of Ranch dressing
S- about 12 chips with salsa
D- about 2 1/2 c. of homemade chicken noodle soup (Yummy)
2 small pc. of french bread (no butter)
S- 2 slices of cantalope
And water thoughout the day, with a few cups of diet coke here and there!!

How was that? Do you guys think that is good? Or what should I be doing different? I know exercising but what about food wise. Any input would be Gr8.

I'll check back later, going to look for a job and then go to curves. I'll let ya'll know how it went.

Gotta love this chicago weather huh? I heard we are getting snow tonight? Did you here this? Well, I'm in the county North of you so it might be different... I can not believe you are living so close !!!! How long have you been in Illinois ? Do it know it well?
 
Christina~Thanks for the post. SNOW...Already :eek: Yeah I think I heard something like that on the news. I can't believe it. I wish it wasn't so cold, I wish, I wish I lived somewhere tropical where it's warm all year round....POOF!! Oh wait my wish didn't come true...darn. LOL Sorry I'm kindda silly at times. :rolleyes:
To answer your questions...I've been in IL for 3 months now. And I pretty much just know my little area I stay in, like I go to Wal-Mart alot cause it's so close and dream about buying thing....lol. I don't know that much around here. I guess I have the rest of my life to find out though, that's if I get a job. LOL:p
 
Do you go to the Walmart on 135th and Harlem? I used to work there. Or do you go to Orland ?

Good Morning Jessica! I cant wait to get to know you! Everyone here is wonderful, I'm sure your gonna love it! You really need to push yourself to go to curves. I know all about having no motivation! Once your join Curves if it's anything like my curves ask them for help! I did about a month ago I called and was going to cancel... they talked me out of it and I told them I had no motivation at all and they are really helping me through it.. I'm so glad I didn't cancel my membership there. I stay at home and it does get me out of the house everyday and I get to talk to other women that are going through the same thing I am! Between curves and the ladies here I could't ask for a better support team!!

Hey Christina- Can I go on your field trip? lol.. I love field trips!! How about a shopping trip! :D

The Wal Mart I go to is on Harlem Ave and some other street...lol. I forgot:rolleyes: Maybe it's 103rd or something like that...lol. Doh!!!:p

Field trip...where?? When? How? Who? What? Sorry got out of control again. I would love to go downtown Chicago. I've been there once. Christina, do you go downtown a lot? Do you live close by it? I know you say you live North of me but how far North?

I think it would be so cool if we all can get a group of girls and set up some kind of goal where we all can meet. I would like that. Well it's 11:30 gonna go to Curves now.
 
Well I did it...I promised I would...Yep that's right, I signed up for CURVES. They had a great deal on the membership fee and the payments. Membership fee was orignally $149 but they had a special for only $75 and no payments till Jan 2006. I am on a month to month basis. Which means I don't have to sign a contract...I pay $10 more a month then signing a years contract...which seems ok, I think I can handle $39/month. I didn't want to sign up for the year cause I might not stick with it as I have a tendince to do. I'm so excited. I'm going tomorrow to work out at 8am. I can't wait. Oh and I have some other good news...I finally got a job interview. It's for a company doing administrative work. I hope I get it cause I need the cash $$$ X-mas is coming...fast.
Well here is what I ate today:

B-3/4 c. cheerios
1/2 c. skim milk

S-3 wedges of cantalope
L-Large salad
2T. Ranch Dressing
1c. of homemade chicken noodle soup
S- 5 townhouse crackers
D-:eek: :eek: Went to a resturant:eek: :eek:
1 bowl of soup (chicken and rice, no cream)
2 rolls with butter:(
1/2 of a beef sandwich on a french roll (hot)
French Fries (I almost ate all of them):eek:

And lots of water today, no diet soda at all...just water!

I know dinner was bad. I feel terrible that I ate all those cals and carbs :mad:
Tomorrows a new day and I'm going to Curves now.

Please give me the strength to lose this weight.;)
 
oh that right 103rd and Harlem... thats the one I worked at... It's been sooo long since I've been in that neighbor hood...

I was planning on using my Child Support money to sign up but I did not get as much as I was anticipating... Only $40! Whats that man up to?

We gotta keep each other on our toes! REALLY!
Your dinner was okay... at least you only ate half and did not finish the fries... I always keep reminding myself, it is easier to throw the food away rather than throwing it on your thighs and trying to work it off later!

All I have to say is I LOVE CURVES. Sure I love it cause of the exercise but they weighed me and took my measurements...I thought I weighed 196lbs...well that's not true...I weigh 189.5lbs. Yahooo!!! I lost weight and didn't even know it...LOL.

I feel great to be back exercising. It was fun.
Some other GREAT news...I got a job and I start tomorrow at 8am. I can't wait I'm so happy everything it starting to look so much better for me.

I'll still be popping in here from time to time and I will definately post my journal.


Christina~ that stinks about the child support thing. How many children do you have? I don't have any. Would like a few though..hopefully one day, I'm getting kindda old...LOL. I wish you lived close to me so we could do Curves together or at least exercise together. And thanks for telling me...I didn't even know we are doing a challenge. I'll have to check that out. But whatever we need to do to lose we will do it.
 
Jessica~ I have one child... I would love to go to Curves with you... I wish the world was smaller so we all were closer to each other.. sound silly? Well I am ! LOL

Awesome you got a job and get to workout at curves, and already have lost weight! YOU , my dear, are doing fantastic!
