Jen's Diary

I must check out whole 30 in the new year. I wouldn't mind actually finding out what makes me so itchy.
Ooh. Heated seats in your car. Nice!
There's snow on the mountains here in Tassie & we are in our first month of Summer. HA!

Thanks, everyone! :)

Well, yesterday was the last day of the elimination part of Whole 30. Today we start reintroducing foods. We're starting with sugar, only because that's what's suggested on the website. This morning I had 2 small pancakes made with cassava flour, cashew milk, and sugar. I topped them with clarified butter and maple syrup. My stomach already doesn't feel the best. Which I was totally expecting. lol! I read they suggest reintroducing the food at every meal, so two more meals to go. Then tomorrow we cut it back out for 2 or 3 days and see if there's any reactions. Then you pick a new food and reintroduce that, and so on.

I did weigh myself and lost 12 lbs in the last 30 days. I'm sure a good portion of that is water and being less bloated though. Still, I'll take it. lol!

We've been super duper busy. I worked and we went out last Saturday and Sunday and finished up the majority of our Christmas shopping. I ordered the last few things for the kids yesterday. So, now we just have to get something for Chef's parents, who are the hardest people to buy for. I have no idea what to get. lol!

I hope everyone is doing well! :)

12 lbs down won't be all water, Jen. Good luck with the reintroducing stuff. I bet your system enjoyed not having sugar. I'm really interested to hear how it all goes.

As for the queasiness, I bet it's the butter! I love that stuff, but it's a pretty powerful substance. (Note: this is uneducated chatty reaction, not well-informed or qualified comment!)

Hey guys!

Things are going good! We have reintroduced sugar, dairy, and gluten grains at this point.

I didn't really have a reaction to the dairy. Which didn't really surprise me. Dairy has never really bothered me. Gluten grains we just introduced yesterday. So far I'm more stiff and achy... which also doesn't surprise me. My inner and tops of my thighs hurt a little more too. I have chronic inflammation and swelling where I had my blood clots. The pain from that had definitely went down doing Whole 30.

We just have non gluten grains and legumes to go. You can also do a reintroduction for gluten free alcohol, which would be like wine, tequila, gin, rum, etc. But I never drink those anyway, so I'm not even bothering.

Non diet related happenings:

Kids have a snow day today. It was snowing pretty good out there and was in the negatives this morning. Brrr.

They were also home last Friday because of a threat of a school shooting. My daughter was in an after school club Thursday when the school was notified and they funneled everyone to the library and escorted them out. Very scary. She came home shaking like a leaf. They have lockdowns drills and the occasional lockdown for smaller issues, but I'm pretty sure she could just sense the seriousness of it in the tone of voice from her teachers. That and getting escorted out of the building freaked her out. She's doing ok now though. Never would of thought that just sending my kids to school would become so scary.

One week til Christmas. I have a few presents left to wrap, but other than that we are done. :santa: Kids last day of school is Friday. We plan on making a few cookies and treats with them, like usual, but won't be able to eat anything until Christmas day. We should have reintroduced everything by then. I will not be going overboard though. Honestly a little scared to see how bad I would feel if I did. lol!

:seeya:

Hi Jen! Good job on the Whole30! I don’t think i could ever eat clean and healthy for 30 days straight without a few cheat meals haha. But that’s great that you have such strong will power I’m a little jealous :rotflmao:

Every time I hear another story of children being afraid to go to school I am horrified, but reading that your daughter had this experience has made it more real for me. It is very sad, Jen.
Have you found anything yet with reintroducing different foods that you feel you really need to cut out, Jen?

That's horrible, Jen, about the threatened - thank heavens, not real - school shooting. Poor children, and I feel for the teachers, too - let alone the awful jolt in the pit of the stomach that a parent must feel at the message that there's been a threat. The holiday break will be welcomed as a chance to reset feelings, I expect.

I agree with the others, this whole school shooting thing is very sad. Hard to understand, and for me harder to understand why people (some anyway) don't want to do anything about the easy availability of guns. I know this is not a place for political discussion, but had to say it anyway.

Your Whole30 thing sounds interesting, and seems a good idea.

I thought I'd pop in and see how everyone is doing. Looks like most are getting on as well as can be expected. I was doing so well with everything and then Bam! coronavirus! Stress eating is definitely happening. Cadbury caramel eggs might be a new food group for me. :blush5: I need to knock it off. lol!

We're currently on lockdown. ...with 3 kids. They closed schools almost two weeks ago. So the kids are all home. I'm guessing they probably won't be going back this school year, or at least I'll be surprised if they do. We got a call asking if we have a computer and internet access from the school. So I'm guessing they're trying to figure out if we can do distance learning. Which should be fun with two teenagers and me working from home.....oh and a 15 month old. I have no idea how that is going to work at all. I can barely get anything done as it is now. lol!

My anxiety is super high tonight. I'm so disgusted with the amount of people in my area still not taking it seriously even though we're in one of the more badly hit states. One of the urgent cares in the town over had to close yesterday because they ran out of supplies. The hospital Chef works at took all the supplies from all the different buildings and put them in one room to ration them out, because people were stealing them! But yet you still have people bitching and complaining about the stay at home order and not following it. I just can't wrap my mind around how stupid and careless some people are being here. I even had to get on my own mother a few days ago. She's going stir crazy, so she wanted to go the store to just "get out of the house and walk around"... Uhhhh. ..no, go outside to do that. *sigh*

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh... I just needed to vent for a minute.

On a positive note... I've been trying to still do some stretches in the morning and something calming at night. It's not much, but it's something. lol!

I hope everyone is healthy and doing well!

Hi, Jen. It is so good to hear from you. I think the people in your area who are not taking this seriously may have been taking their cues from your "leader". Ours is no better or smarter. They have no idea.
We just have to try to take any positives from this that we can & be as healthy as we can. Say hi to chef from me, please. I hope you can all stay safe & healthy xoxo

Hey Jen, glad to hear you´re doing as well as possible. My sister has just the one 8-y/o (and a garden he can play in) and is finding it near-impossible to work from home so I hear what you say!

Hey Jen, glad to hear from you!

Times are hard, but eating well will make them feel a little better. Staying away from the Cadbury eggs would be a good start!

I was going to say that was disgusting, but then I remembered something. Back in January I thought I was going to China and could not find masks, they were already selling out. A friend who is a nurse stole some for me. Back in January it never occurred to us that we would need them here. The China trip canceled so I just put them away. I need to dig them out and return them now.

Hang in here with us!

Thanks, Cate. Don't even get me started on our "leader". Sorry to hear you're dealing with the same thing. You stay safe and healthy too!!

Working from home and children just do not go together. lol! I definitely sympathize with all the parents trying to work from home right now. It's super hard!

Well, I'm glad something good came of this post! And I will definitely start with cutting out the Cadbury eggs. Those delicious little devils have to go! lol!
