I'm upset

Proactive is ok for light acne, if you have a lot I would go to a dermatologist and get real acne medication. Proactive will charge you 3 months at a time for pretty small bottles. When I tried it they charged me 3 months (60$) every 2 months. You can get a prescription for retna-a and a antibiotic for 60$ and it will last a lot longer.

hey thanks Xenth!!! im getting some green tea today and im ganna drink 10 bags aday like you man.

dude, i freaking hate acne, and i only had a mild case. the reason why i say had is because i got tired of that crap and went to the doctors to get prescribed stuff. within a month my acne was gone man. i definetly recomend going to get the good stuff bro, otherwise, if your acne is as bad as you say it is, it might not go away.

What kinds of stuff have you tried? I had a mild case of acne a few years ago, but a lot of it was because I ****ed myself up doing all kinds of crap to my skin.

I started using Proactiv (Wal-Mart and Costco had a cheaper rip off...works the same) and it went away.

i dont have BAD acne but i have a lot of red spots and irritation i guess. iv tried clearasil for like a week (before the thing ran out) and it didnt really do anything(it was cheap; wat a suprise). i tried soap but nothins happening. im now just trying a lot of green tea(the pills) to see what happens. andi dont have the money for proactive : ( its 60 bux

get Clean & Clear - Oil Free Deep Action Cleanser

I use it 2x a day, keeps my face oil free. I've experiment with a lot of products like that and Clean and Clear is the best. It will work a lot better than the pads.

Proactiv is not 60$, its 20$ a month, they just charge you 60$ at a time. :)

You're willing to go see a dermatologist who might prescribe pills that are 15 bucks a pop, but you won't go and buy Proactiv, which will last probably a good 3+ months?

Try Googling "Acne Free" or just looking for it at Wal Mart. It's the same ****, just about 50% cheaper.

I constantly had a lot of redness, quite a bit of white heads, and one or two deep-scarring ones. First I used Neutrogena. Nothing. Then I started using alcohol, hydogen peroxide, rubbing tea leaves on my face...nothing. In fact, I probably made it worse. I started using Proactiv and some of the cheaper rip offs, and I've been clear-skinned for about 2 or 3 years now.

thanks, lei. im actually going to try a green tea pill for a while combined with a benzoyle peroxide routine on acne.org. i might try proactiv from walmart too. im going shopping today at walmart to look for stuff....

I would stay away from Benzoyle peroxide, it has been shown to cause DNA damage...

And For the record i drink almost a pitcher of green tea a day, i have never really noticed it affect my acne.

Green tea extract = 20Cups of tea in one pill ;)

And Benzoylperoxide isn't that bad (ignoring the whole dry skin/redness thing) millions of people use it and if it were that dangerous it wouldn't be store bought.

Try looking for the side effects of Accutane however!

So your making the claim that if something is sold in stores is safe? And to say BzPO is completely and totally harmless, is an ignorant statement without reading the studys on it.

BzPO has been shown to cause breaks in DNA strands as well as "Crosslinking", Both of which are very problematic.

And again you mention Redness, do you even know what that is? Benzoyl peroxide generates free radicals in the skin. Its effect is similar to unprotected sun exposure. The redness of the skin (erythema), caused by sun exposure and BzPO , are both the result of free radicals (oxidative stress) upon the skin.

Please be careful about starting with Accutane. (If you see a dermatologist who suggests it, please read about the pros/cons first and then decide.)

Here are a few suggestions to think about if you don't want to do the dermatologist thing just yet:

. After you shampoo your hair, mind the way you rinse your hair in the shower--try not to let the rinse water hit your face.

. Consider changing your sheets--especially your pillowcases--every few days.

. Use one washcloth to dry your face--pat your face dry gently--and then put that washcloth into the laundry (use it only once before washing it again).

. Launder your washcloths and sheets by themselves (with no other laundry) and do it in very hot water. Try to avoid using fabric softeners and heavy detergents.

A friend of my family had moderate acne when he was between 15-17 years old. His dermatologist prescribed benzaclyn (a wash), differin (a topical ointment), and minocycline (an oral antibiotic). I'm not sure if I spelled those things correctly. He was on that treatment for 2-3 years before he outgrew the acne. That approach combined with the stuff above about laundry and shampooing helped him a lot.

I hope you find a solution that works for you. It's nasty that people poke fun of people for having acne. :(

I second that about benzoyl peroxide. I think it's been in use for awhile and I've never heard of serious side effects. I think that it has a tendency (like a lot of these products) to dry out the skin and cause flaking, which probably exacerbates the acne problem.

And yes, about Accutane! Please do look into that if you're thinking about it. When my family friend went to his family doctor for his acne, the doctor looked at him and said, "He needs accutane." His acne didn't seem so serious so that recommendation was surprising. He went to a notable dermatologist who rolled her eyes when he told her what the family doctor said about needing Accutane. She said that before ANYONE uses that drug, they should try a whole host of other treatments first. She said that there are lots and lots of approaches and products (prescription strength and OTC and combinations of both) to try before Accutane becomes the only alternative. That was a great dermatologist. Turns out that the first round of stuff that she suggested worked perfectly.

You didn't read my post above at all did you?

Look, BzPO is OBVIOUSLY okay because it's popular.

u r da ignrnt 1!

Lmao, but seriously, I think I still want to look sexy over having dumb **** like my "DNA" be jacked up.

Yeah im sure that using a little for a short period would not be enough to alter your dna lol. If it does perhaps you will turn into the hulk or a super hero so that would be all good anyway

No, actually, I didn't see that. I'll have to read more about what you've said. Benzoyl peroxide is so widely available and has been for so long.

edit: I just read the extract above and am not entirely convinced about this, but I'm not an expert. I'd have to read some more about this, and it'll have to be something that's written for a layperson. It's hard to believe that it can cause that kind of damage. Maybe it has to be used in really heavy concentrations for that to happen, or for long durations?

..thanks guys...i havent really seen any change in my acne after using green tea pills and following all the cleanliness tips....this sucks. im not using anything on my skin...its still kinda dry and flaky : ( i hate my face....im going to try the benzoyle peroxide with a gentle facial bar soap and a facial moisurizer on acne.org...my moms being a beotch about buying me it; shes so unsupportive to me. she says im just touching my face too much and i dont need anything for my acne. she doesnt believe me....i hate that...

im in highschool too with a slight case of acne. there are those few aholes in my school also. i just went up to them and told them to shut there f****n mouth before i shut it for them. they stopped. funny how todays society is all talk no walk. but anyway i use benzol peroxide or w.e it is and ive came to a conclusion ( at least regarding me ) when im off on vacation, with no stress of school work or anything, i use the benzol and my face clears up. i go back to school and i get a slight case again. i think stress might play a factor. making sure you dont overdo it and dry your skin out is important too. my skin is pretty sensitive so i only use the benzol at night, but still wash my face with a cleanser in the shower. the benzol qorks pretty good. i guess my suggestion is to just relax. bar soap will only dry your skin out too.

Hi there, I had serious Acne problems, it all started when I was 13 years old. Face, back, chest, even forearms sometimes. I was too young to take chemic pills so my dermatologist adviced me to do face peeling...didn't worked. When I was 16 the same dermatologist told me I was old enough to start taking the pills, the product was named ROACUTAN and I think it was produced by ROCHE laboratories, but I am not sure. The treatment takes between 4-6 months and it is not cheap, but it really works, you won't have acne ever again in your life. I am 27 years old now and never had a pimp again.

The bad side of the story is that I dont know if the product is still being sold

good luck
