I'm gonna need some help on this one...

Hey guys. I'm pretty new here. Surfed around for awhile and decided to join up.

A little history...

I have always been "the big kid." I'm 16, weigh about 225 and am 6'3". Problem is, my BF% is probably 19-23%. Yeah...not good.

I really want to get rid of this. I'm not really looking to get RIPPED, so to say. Just want a more athletic build.

I know I need to change a whole lot about my lifestyle. I can run a mile (barely), in about 11 minutes. I bench maybe 110lbs., curl 25's, but I can squat nearly 300.

So I hope to kinda keep updates on this thing. I've already cut out the soda, microwavable crap (pizza rolls, hot pockets, ect..), and huge portions as best I can. I still over eat. It's my biggest problem right now.

I've started seriously weight lifting and cardioing in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm weighing myself twice a week to keep tabs. I am kind hoping to lose about 30lbs. in fat by this summer (~6 months.)

I'm gonna sort of use this thread as my journal, and any comments, tips, suggestions, ect...from all of you who are much better off than I are greatly welcomed!

Hey dude, i was the big kid too eventhou i'm shorter. I was about 6 foot and 200pounds at 16.

I'm 6 foot now and 225 but my body composition and strength levels are much better.

Give us more details of your workout routine and goals and we can help you alot more.

Good Luck

Alright...

Well typically when I work out, I work all major muscle groups in one whole session. Something like and arms superset X2, a core superset X2, back, legs...Then cardio until my ride comes.

My main goal is to not be embarrassed with my shirt off next summer, or wearing under armor. My worst point right now is my love handles. As "lovely" as they are, I hate em'. I know you can't target weight loss areas, but man I would kill to get rid of those!

I'll post some pictures up here in awhile, if you all can handle em' ;) .

Alright, so it's been too long. Not necissarily on here, but as far as my excersise goes. I haven't hit the gym since the last time I posted...ouch.

With all the Christmas festivities, and trumpet gigs, I have not had any time to sleep, much less hit the gym.

So this brings me to a question, how do all you guys manage your time? If your "gym" day is crammed full of "previous engadgements," how do you find time?

I have also not weighed myself since then either. I've been scared to. My eating habits have been worse than horrid, thank you holidays.

How am I supposed to eat healthy, when nothing on the Christmas menu is better than chocolate chip cookies?

Oh well...gotta quit making excuses and get out there.

But it's cool because come new years, This kid will be getting up at 5 every morning to run, and hitting the gym 3 days a week. I have already planned it out for january, so I won't schedual anything over top of those times.

training should be part of our daily routine. just like waking up, going to work or school, eating, sleeping, etc. there's a good saying that goes "finish the day before you start it". meaning having it planned out before you do anything and then sticking to it. the only way to get better at just about anything is consistency.

training time is YOUR time. do your best to not let you or anyone else take that from you ;)

Alrighty so I am 4 days into the new year...and I'm already having troubles. My plan was to go to bed at 10 and get up at 5 and go run a bit. Well I've been doing well with the go to bed at 10 part, as well as the wake up at 5 part. But the last two days, I have found every excuse in the world to not go out. Tuesday my head was throbbing (which it really was), and this morning, I told myself "it was too cold."

Now thinking rationally, I know this is bull crap. Although I did hit the gym on tuesday, and I'm thinking of not getting up so early on tuesdays and thursdays (when I go the gym).

I need some help motivating myself to get out there. I know looking down at my gut should be enough, but it doesn't seem to be...

I also have some before pics to put up here. The after will come in a few months...

remember: HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?

but also, give yourself some time to work your way into it. a few failures arent bad but find ways to get them fixed

Well I hit the gym again yesturday (Thursday). Felt great. I'm moving up in the world too! I was able to advance my curls up to 30lb dumbells in each hand compared to the 25 I had been using off and on the last 6 months.

I'm not feeling it so much in my arms today however, as I am in my abs and shoulders. Those are probably my weakest points right now so I'm working those the hardest. My next workout is sunday. I really need to go run tomorrow. Unfortunately there will be no time today. I missed my chance this morning. I automatically turned my alarm off at 5 when I was SUPPOSED to get up :( . I still have yet to do it. Although gym days, and eating habits have been good, I still need that running on non-gym days, but I haven't yet.

I have to find the right motivation. But nothing has worked so far. Hopefully I'll get this fixed up within the next week and it will be smooth sailing from here on out.

Oh and I promise to get those pics up tomorrow. I apologize in advance to anyone who finds chubby people gross, but I have to do it for my own self-esteem and motivation.

Alright here it is...

I took these pics ages ago, I think I'm already in much better shape than this, but I still need this for motivation.

Yeah...ew.
But I am actually much better off right now. I still have those nasty handles...

Got to work out today. Worked arms, chest, and shoulders. Felt wonderful.

I must say, I cannot wait to have a little muscle mass to show. Right now I go to the gym and see all these huge, great shape, guys, and it just kinda makes me feel like a wimp.

Not that I'm gonna give up. But I'm not doing so well in the food department :( ...

get that out of you mind. as long as you keep moving forward, you will make progress. :)

Alright so Monday was weigh in day.

228lbs.

Yuck.

I was at 223 before christmas, and I've only been at the gym for a week and a half, so there is no way I've gained 5 lbs. in muscle.

I need to get to the running.... :(

keep at it ok don't give up.. running is good. up the cardio and keep up with the gym and you'll see results soon. chin up :) its hard but you can do it.

Yeah so apparently I am still on my see-food diet that I thought I have overcome...

I was just sitting at my chair on the computer, got up to get a drink, and immediately stuck a piece of pizza lying on the counter into my mouth. Then I thought...why?

I wasn't hungry, The pizza had no nutrional value I needed. And yet I still ate it. theres an extra 80 calories (small piece).

This is one of my main obsticals to overcome in order to be successful...

I run this same shpiel for everyone looking to lose weight and get into shape. Now the onus is upon you. ;)

It's about making decisions in the moment. You wake up at 5am to workout. Your start to make excuses, but you just keep hammering at yourself mentally until you get up and get started. If it takes you an hour to get out of your bedroom, so be it, as long as you do. If you only manage to do it once a week, that's better than nothing. You start the next week and aim for twice or better.

That's really all it is. You can learn everything there is to know about nutrition and exercise, but that moment of decision is the difference between those who are out of shape and those who are fit. Be confident in your ability to adapt and your strength of spirit. So long as you don't give up, your victory is inevitable.

Of course it's easier said than done.

Haha thanks man.

So I weighed in Thursday

225.

I dunno, my weight likes to fluctuate, but I'm sure it has to do with water and food in me and shtuff.

I haven't missed a gym day yet.

I'm workin on it...
