You sound like a 13 year old girl, Steve...
Maybe that's who I am.....
You sound like a 13 year old girl, Steve...
There aren't many minors on this site any way... and On the 14th there will be one less.
dongle...
it sounds really dirty but it's needed to make some computer equipment work correctly.. .and it just makes me snicker...
what's your favorite word?
there actually are quite a few...There aren't many minors on this site any way... and On the 14th there will be one less.
I lost that battle with the admin ages ago -I haven't given up on it -but - i'm with ya - especially when there are minors posting pictures of themselves...
Thanks Steve!Damn Trev, you're only 17.
I'm impressed with your knowledge at such a young age. Keep at it my friend!
You don't sound thrilled about that. Mind you, childhood obesity is a problem as large as adult hood obesity. Many parents today are not willing to change their own style of living to accommodate a change for the better in their own children. Without proper systems designed to handle children wanting to loose weight and without much knowledge available from the parents or willingness. Where else do they have to go?there actually are quite a few...
I'm not sure I'm a fan of minors being here.
In on sense, they are exposed to good information hopefully.
But in the other sense, minors shouldn't really be obtaining help via the web when it comes to health and weight loss.
I can agree with that to some extent. However, as I said above. What is the alternative?
Without question, there is a HUGE amount of wrong information on the web. However, there is also limitless amounts of great information. The problem is, most young people Do not have neither the common sense or other abilities to properly decide which info is correct and which is wrong. They don't understand how to cross reference data and find studies, and other "reputable" sources for info. They read one article posted by "bob" or "joe" and they take it as absolute.
Places like this, have a large abundance of people that can "watch out" for bad advise. In a way I think forums like these can be more "safe" then just letting a kid go Google and hope lucks on his/her side in the results...
I just don't think it should up to the owners of a website to assume the responsibity of the safety of a minor. Especially when 1) health and 2) pictures are involved.
Regardless of whether or not they find 'help' in a place such as this... there's just too much risk.
I really don't think they should be expected to do so either. I'm not saying you expect them too. But you are a rare breed. When I was your age, I too was researching. But majority of minors don't want to burden themselves. They just want to have fun. Truthfully, at this stage in my life I think they should focus on fun.
But this is besides the point.
You are right... there is a form of self-regulation and filtration in forums such as this. You hope that there are enough 'educated' people to put tape over the mouthes of those who are pretending to be 'educated.'
That said though, that doesn't change the fact that the liability is very high. In a few months I hope to have my own forum up and running. I will not allow minors to be part of the community.
I hate the childhood obesity problem our nation faces just as much as you do. That's why my partner and I designed a childhood boot camp at his gym. But using the web as my vehicle for helping minors is definitely not something I'll be doing.
All great points as usual. I can agree with all that.
Now, on to the more important subject...Your getting your own forum? Awesome, Am I invited?
Lol, I want all the details on it.
Of course you are invited. You'll be an 'adult' by the time it's up and running.
My partner and I are in the process of opening our own web community, which will consist of many things. One being a forum.
