I'm Back!

Thought I should hold myself accountable a bit more and write stuff in a journal again. Since I left I've had a few ups and downs in my life but things seem to be a bit more stable now, my work is going quite well and nobody in my family is critically ill anymore so can divert focus on getting back into shape.

I left here at about 210lbs but since then I'd focused so much on work I wasn't training much, not eating much and dropped down to my lowest weight of 186 a few weeks back.

I'm back training 5 days a week and on a high calorie diet again and yesterday weighed in at 206, which is a gain of 20lbs in 19 days (nothing but pure muscle of course ;)

I haven't exactly worked out a training plan yet but hopefully people here will be able to make suggestions as I go. I was thinking I might return to Wendler's 5/3/1 programme.

Off now to do some work (need to get balance right this time)

Good to see you. Keeping the journal helps me stay somewhat on track.

Sorry, been lazy and not posted my training, but I have gained that other 4lbs in the last 7 days so now back to 210.
It's been a long tough road - almost 4 weeks in fact - but I gained that 24lbs back and am ready to go! :D

Hopefully if I start posting stuff then Tom will too and we'll help drag this site, tugging it by the pubes, back from the precipice of dull mediocrity

What if it shaves it's pubes?

I still haven't got a plan in place, it's more of a general idea really so a pretty crappy and unplanned session today. After so long out and so much strength lost I just want to find my level again on the big lifts

All measurements in KG's

Bench
5x 70
5x 80
5x 90
5x 100
8x 80

Close grip bench
10x 60
12x 60
14x 60

Pec deck fly
3x10@ 56

DB Bicep curls
3x9 @ 40

Well your about where i am with benching, i lost loads of strength on it. I'm not sure if i can even do 5 @ 100kg anymore. It's horrible to know about 10 months ago i did 5x5 with 107.5kg on the bench.

Soon things will be changing...............:D

I still had a bit in the tank with the bench too :) I'm just gonna go home and eat chicken 'till I throw up tonight. Can't be arsed with slow progress anymore. It took about a month to gain 25lbs but that's obviously gonna slow so maybe if I aim for another 10lbs next month and then at least 5lbs a month for the next year then I should be pretty big by next summer

Did a short session on legs today as I had a lot to do at work

Leg Press
3x15 @ 200kgs

Calf raises 3xmany
Leg extensions 3x17
hamstring curls 3x15

kept it quick but managed to get a lot into the leg presses. Aiming on doing 3x20 @200kg within a month

Nice to see you guys back. The best thing I did for my bench/squat/deads was to train with guys who compete. I had to lower the weight and get a grip on technique and the weight just flew up after that. Look if there any PLers or weight-lifters nearby you can join in.

If you are training in a commercial gym and you are squatting high, guys will just tell you "yeah buddy you are reaching parallel" when in fact you have not. When your back is rounding on deads and you are doing 8 or 10 reps, you cannot see how poor your form is. If you bench like most people in commercial gyms then you can easily add lbs to your bench by watching .

The best thing I did for my squat was to stop squatting and start box squatting for a while. I still box squat far more than I do regular squats. The reason for the leg pressing yesterday was that both the squat rack and the SM were being used (nobody actually squatting though).
Since getting back to the gym I've even seen someone doing DB bicep curls in the smith machine! Crazy ****

Anyway, still finding my way back into all my lifts and today was OH pressing:

BB Military press - 5x5@ 60kg (+ 2 reps on 5th set)
This was well within me so will increase weight next week

DB OH press - 3x10@ 40kg

Seated row 3x12
chest flys 4x10

Feeling a lot better with lifting now, it's getting more natural again and I'll see if I can get my clean and press back to about 85kg soon, it shouldn't be far off anyway but the technique will require a bit more attention before trying it

Sorry, didn’t update yesterday as I went to the gym late, basically spend most of the session squatting.

One weird thing I was asked to do though was spot a guy on the leg press. It’s one of those where you add free weights and press the plate away from yourself. Well this guy managed a single press of 500kgs and me and a PT were having to be ready to catch the damn thing if he couldn’t do it. I’m bloody glad he didn’t snap anything as I wouldn’t have fancied trying to hold up my 250kg share

Not something I’m going to be trying anytime soon!

Weight still at 212lbs so that’s a 26lb weight gain for July

500kg leg press, **** me, i've seen something similar in my gym......

Sounds like your getting in to the swing of things mate! Keep it going...

Mainly chins and dips today, chins are a little more challenging now with the added weight but I'm still doing OK. BW dips were a little too easy though so need to add weight really. I've been adding a bit more volume recently anyway so not such a bad thing.

Sorry the updats are crap but I'm pushing myself harder than I have for about a year so feeling sick for some time after training

I need a new avatar, anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone still read these bloody things?

Anyway, up to 214lbs even though I thought I ate less than I should have this weekend

I need at least 20% more coolness and 35% more sex appeal than Captain Haddock to fairly represent me. Thanks for your efforts though :)

Yeah, I do need to slow the weight gain down a little, I clearly overestimated my required calorie intake. When I started gaining at 1lb a day I figured there would be a lot of water retention in that but I've been gaining about 1lb a day for a whole month. Oh well, at least my clothes fit again!

Went heavier on the bench again today, all weight in KGs again

Bench
5x 70
5x 80
5x 100
5x 100
5x 105 + 9x 80 (no rest period)

OH DB press
3x10 @ 40

Chest fly
3x10

Single arm cable rows
3x10 @ 80 (each arm)

I'm still not doing massive amounts of volume or particularly low reps but I'm making decent progress by sticking around the medium rep range and focusing heavily on one of the big lifts each session

My appitite is well and truly back, I ate a chicken for dinner last night followed by a mushroom pasta dish for desert and then a chocolate muffin (wife's fault).

Sounds good mate, good numbers on the bench. Good to see you acting a bit more motivated!

The OH DB Press, they're not 40kg DB's are they?...
