and i guess not knowing what and when to eat wouldnt help either..

can anyone offer some suggestions about how to.. get motivated.. and turn that motivation into passion?

thankyou heaps in advance

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT? Set your goals and chart your results. Without direction you will only get lost!! Train hard and remember the decicision is totally yours!!! If I can help be sure to ask. I was in your shoes at 333# down to 197# now.

i want it really bad! my goal is to get down to 250.. i know it will take a long time but i do want it.. is there any way to make my time at the gym more enjoyable? i find that i go once.. found it was boring then dont go for a couple weeks.

trainer

I am planning on signing up for the personal training program at my gym in August, when my kids start preschool. I go to a YMCA, and they have a 12 week personal training program that comes free with your membership. I have never used it (my schedule with two toddlers was too unpredictable) but I am looking forward to getting with someone who can teach me and lead me into getting toned and really building my strength.

Maybe you could check with your gym and see if they have a similar training program. That could really get you focused and into a good routine that you could enjoy. Or you could maybe find a workout buddy and go to the gym together.

music... or find a gym with tv monitors in the exercise area... in Israel one of the girls only watched tv at the gym.. and went often at the same time if their was a program she wanted to see. I take music within me and listen to it while working out.. I find the faster paced music works better.

by the way..

"I am 17 years old, male, weigh around 120kg's (320 pounds i think)"

Its not 320 lbs.

1 kg = 2.2 lbs

so 120 x 2.2 = 264 lbs :)

oh crap, i used a weight converter to figure it out.. guess that converter doesnt work lol.. ah well i still have a long way to go

how about that with one small error on a calculator/converter you lost 56 pounds. can i borrow that converter when your done lol.....

I can completely and totally understand you. I'm 16, and a girl, but I weigh 208, and I'm only 5'5. I have a sister who has that "killer body" and I see her everyday and wish that I could have one too. But my motivation would die off rather quickly.

I joined this forum only recently, and already I have found it easier to keep with it, knowing that there are people out there that are goig through the same thing that I am. Always remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Try setting this page as a home page, and make it a goal to post at least once a day, maybe starting a journal in the weightloss diary section.

Don't give up on yourself, and you can do whatever you want!

You can do it. Just keep telling yourself that and believe in yourself and it will happen. I have just started my journy to find my slim self again and I know I will do it. All you need to do is convince yourself that you want to excercise because it's fun. After the workout, you might be sore but you will feel great. After a while it becomes something you look forward to.

Good luck and visit here often, I've already found insparation here and I only joined 2 days ago.

Robre is right...YOU CAN DO IT!!! I was in you same position, 20, 262lbs, wanting to lose weight, but no motivation. I was on too many yo yo diets and taking too many "miracle pills," but nothing. Just like a baby learning how to walk, I realized you have to start small...

The first thing I did was join a gym and I went. My self esteem was low, and I was self conscience about how I would look from those other people, but I had to learn how to put that aside. I started of small, going from the treadmill, to the eliptical, staying on the machine for 20 minutes only then going home...then longer each week. Start small and pace yourself.

The next thing I did was get rid of all the fad diets in my mind. I just made a chart and counted my calories. I made sure that I wasn't going over 2000 calories a day, then 1900 the next week, until I got to 1500. I also had a "splurge" day one day of the week, at the end of the week for myself to eat whatever the hell I wanted and I still lost weight.

I'm now 193 pounds. I was in a 42 waist, now I'm 36. And the time does go by quick if you don't obsess. Remember things take time and as cliche as it may sound, Rome was not built in a day. Don't get discouraged...just imagine what you will look like, and go for it. Good luck to you!!!! Let us know what's going on. A good support team will also get you on track to.

Anyways, I rambled....good luck, man!

thanks for the support guys.

starting tomorrow i am making sure i hit the gym everyday, and 2-3 times a week im going twice a day.

in the mornings i will be doing full cardio work outs for 60 mins:
10 mins bike,
20 mins treadmill,
10 mins bike,
20 mins airwalker,

this seems like alot, but if it gets to much then i will just lower the pace at what i do them.. moving slowly is better than not moving at all!

as far as counting calories... what is the best way to do it?
i have never counted calories in my life.
being 17 i didnt think it was neccessary at my age, but now im at the point where i really need to.

the only thing i know about calories is that it is a mesurement of energy, thus gives you energy im guessing.

i will post again tomorrow after my morning work out.

im really excited about it.. i would have gone today but its a puplic holiday here and puplic transport is a pain in the ass.

thanks again ladies/gents

get a journal

Hi, Lowie! I am kind of new at this, too, but this is how I did it...

Get yourself a journal and write down everything you eat. Then, look on the package of food, or look online to find out how many calories are in what you had. You can find the nutrition information for many fast food places and restaurants on their websites. I like to use www.calorieking.com to look up information, because they have calorie counts on just about everything I have eaten - even a single piece of Starburst candy or one pat of butter! Write down the calories next to all the foods you ate, and add them up.

As you do this, you will start to see what you are eating, where the calories are coming from, and where you could make better choices.

If you reduce your calories by 3500 per week - or 500 per day - from what it would take to maintain your body weight, you should lose about a pound a week. I would estimate that you need around 3500 calories per day or more to maintain your weight, so if you cut back to 2500 a day, you should easily lose a healthy 2 pounds per week. You don't want to shoot too much lower than that at first, because you may lose muscle instead of fat, or your body might think you are starving and hold onto all your calories and you won't lose any weight at all.

Anyway, you are off to a good start with your exercise, and if you journal your food intake for a week or two, I bet you will see where a lot of your empty calories are coming from. You can learn to limit those foods (my big problem was cookies) and get rid of a lot of your excess calories without feeling deprived at all. Good luck!

thanks i will go out and buy a journal tomorrow,
ahh had a blow out last night allready,
mum cooked home made fish n chips..
so im guessing there was a whole heap of calories in that..
ahh well, thats not happening again. i went 2 days with no bad foods, then i had that and i felt pretty bad afterwards, i was so sleepy aswell,
i guess that will motivate me not to have that again. lol

I used . That works great too, everything in the world is there. I have to say, what worked for me was to just eat and write down the calories, fat, carbs and protein each contained...i did it for about a month. I didn't worry about special or planned diets, because I was afraid that I would get bored real quick.

I used a cal, fat, carb and protein calculator at to see how much I needed to intake to loose weight and compared it how much I wrote and tried to make sure I stayed between those numbers.

Good luck, keep us posted and stay motivated!

yep

Zo6vette is right. The menu you described is less than what I am eating, and I am a 235 pound woman! (AND losing about 2 pounds a week!) Try eating normally for a week or two and just logging what you eat, so you can SEE where your calories are coming from and make better choices naturally.

ok i just finished my first work out about an hour ago, im feeling great, and im going back again to the gym tonight to do full strength training,

this morning i did cardio

25mins bike med/high Intensity
15mins fast walk on treadmill,
