IHO the iPod post- Headphones for running?

I have ear buds whcih work great for about 5-7 minutes until I start to sweat and they fall out of my ears. I have taken to running with a paper towel to dry out my ears periodically which is tolerable.

The little styrofoam earbud condoms that the iPod came with helped but after a month they were torn gone and I honestly have a hard time paying $10 for a set of 8 two-cent earbud condoms - they didn't help THAT much.

Then I bought these (crappy) ear bud cover/extender things that are supposed to be more comfortable and stable and snap onto your ear buds ($12 at Fry's). Besides massively degrading the sound quality of my earbuds, they were just as useless when it came to bouncing around and sweating.

Has anyone found anything that works?

Am I going to have to go with the connected over the head headphones or has someone realsied that 90% are using our MPG's while we're working out and need to keep the speakers in our ears?

I use ones like these that kinda clip around your ears, never fall off, never once had a problem with them while running or doing anything.

my friend swears by some Sony earbuds, like these:

buds with a loop to go over the ear that supports it, rather than pushing it inside your skull.

I have some JVC headphones that are great for running with. I also wrestle, so my ears are kind of "small". What I do is put them in, and take a head band (like a winter hat) and wear it. Gives me a good swewat, and lets me listen to music.

Thanks for the thread. I think I have spent more money on headsets than I did on the ipod :(

I would love to have a wireless set. The 10 ft long cord is a pain!!! ;)

Nike makes some awesome headphones for athletics. I cant find a picture of them though. I have a pair, and they fit in my ears fine when I run, no matter how sweaty I am.

something like that

I have the string in the back go down my shirt, then I have my ipod clipped to my pants. So it never gets in the way.

Don't know how it would work for wrestling though

These looked like they would work well though

Motorola makes some good ones, they are bluetooth too. So you can be listening to you ipod, then press a button and answer a call from your cell phone. 200$ though, and they are giant DJ style headphones. If you are a function over looks person they are perfect!

HAH, I'd love to see that on a runner...

I have the regular ipod headphones from my ipod nano I got and use them for running, I sweat considerably more than normal individuals, I haven't had any problems with them falling out at all. I have have a little bit of a rubbing/friction issue from where they sit a lot in my ear and being a harder surface but I feel that the little foam covers would probably fix that, I am just cheap. Good luck.

Heh. Living/working out in Maine I havent actually had this problem as my ear buds are always secured quite well under my stocking cap.

So if you live in a cold place, just wake up early and pull that cap down a bit further :)

I had the same problem...the buds fall out of my ears even when I'm not exercising...guess my ears are not bud-friendly. I quickly switched to the ones that hook behind the ears, those stay nice and snug. As for the wire, well, I use my imagination, tuck it in here and there, just get it out of the way. Wireless ones would be a nice treat nevertheless...

As for the headband, I'm sure if you got a really cool one, you'd be good to go ;)

No, it makes your ears kind of squished together. Its not cauliflower, it happens to almost every wrestler tho.

What? Is this real? Why? And how?

Anyways, I use headphones that clip around my ears, I never have a problem. The buds suck, they don't stay in!

I have those, and while they are not the worst pair I have, they are not the best either :( I must have weird shaped ears :(
