Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site and am very glad that i found it. it has alot of information as is very motivating. I'm cw 201, not my highest, but certainly not were i want to be. my gw is 175. It is very hard for me to loose weight, i take medication for a pituitary tumor and i think the medication plays a big part of my weight gain. Although, when i dedicate myself and workout alot, it is achiveable. So i start my journey again (this time, i'm not alone). I wish everyone success is this journey because it is not an easy one. Good luck to you all

WELCOME!!!!

Your are not alone here, Glad to hear that you wanna change your lifestlye. So, what kind of plan are ya giong to use?? Keep us posted and stay POSITIVE

I plan on making healthier choices when it comes to eatting and excercise. My eatting habbits right now are horrible. I eat Mcdonalds or Wendy's atleast 3 times a week if not more, I eat cakes, donuts, candy bars all the time. So my plan is to start eatting right. My biggest downfall is at work, there is a vending area and i am constatnly going to it for comfort LOL. i went to the grocery store today and brought some oatmeal, rasberries for breakfast and it was really good. I'd usually stop at Mc'd for a sausage, egg and cheese mcgriddle with a hash brown. The journey is long, but it is something that i really need to do for myself and i finally realize this. Wish me luck

Today, I weighed in an lost 1lb. Something is better than nother. I have been trying to eat more healthy. I'm Puerto Rican, so rice is a big part of our meals. I tried switching from white rice to brown, it actually wasn't to bad. I just purchased some whole wheat pasta for spagetti's, I'm hoping they taste ok.

One thing I find that is very hard for me is that I don't like the taste of foods that are good for you. For example, I purchased salmon, I couldn't get myself to eat it. I'm not a big vegi eatter, I do like fruits, so I eat alot of fruits, but there are alot of healthy foods that just don't taste good. Any good ideas or suggestions on healthy food that doesn't taste bad?

Let me say congratulations on losing your first pound! That one is the hardest!

I thought I'd try to suggest some of the healthy foods I eat. First, I'm a vegetarian so I try to get pretty creative with vegetables and grains. You said you tried brown rice. I'm not sure if you liked it, but I always hated the mushy texture. To get rid of the texture, I brown the rice in a heavy pot before I add the water. The texture comes out much firmer and it gives it a nutty, toasted flavor. Try it. I promise it will taste completely different! Whole grains are best. If it's white, it's not very good for you.

Butter makes veggies taste so much better, but instead of using butter, I buy the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray. It tastes just as good and has zero calories. Just don't salt the veggies before you try it because that spray tends to be a little salty. Vegetables go with any kind of seasoning you like. I make everything spicy. I use alot of hot sauce, curry/cumin/cajun powders. When you are trying to sautee anything (onions or garlic) use a small amount of extra virgin olive oil.

Beans are really good for you. They are high in protein and fiber. They taste great with rice.

Finally, grilling skinless, trimmed chicken breast on the george foreman with some spice is a great lean protein source. Try putting it in a salad so you don't feel like you're eating just a salad.

Hope these helped. There are lots of great recipe sites on the web. You'll see that you can cut alot of the un-necessary fat and calories our of recipes by picking the reduced fat/calorie versions of foods.

I hope this helps! You're already starting to make great food choices. You're weight is going to start to drop really fast. Keep up the good work!

hey! congrats on making this change. and your right fast food is horrible. if your body is used to that then u eliminate it alll together you will see qucik changes. also some of my favorite things to eat (besides eating the healthy fruits, veggies and protein) that are sooooo good, they are as follows:

Slimfast shakes (cappuccino delight, mmmmmmm)
frozen blueberries heated up with splenda on them
weight watchers giant fudge bars (really reallly good)
pop secret snack bags of pop corn (kettel corn)
Diet A&W
lean cuisine (any type but herb roasted chicken has only 180 calories and is very very good)
spaghetti squash (its a veggie that you cut in half and bake @425 for like 15 min, then you remove the core with a spoon and then rake the insides with a fork. it comes out like spaghetti strands. then i put whatevery type of sauce i feel like. if you dont try anything try thens! its tasty, filling, low cal and a veggie!)

Good luck!

mmmm that spaghetti squash sounds good :) I will definately try it.

ooppss I made a mistake in my entry. The 03/30/06 log was actually what i ate on 03/29/06. Here is my

03/30/06
Breakfast:1 egg/sausage/cheese taco, 8oz orange juice
Snack: 2 strawberry poptarts 8oz of water
lunch: Salad (lettuce, tomato, spinach, raisins, carrots, with oil & vingar)
snack: 1 medium size plum
Dinner: grilled chicken sandwhich on a pita bread 8oz sprite

I thought I did great, wasn't going to eat after 8pm, then got the munchies really bad and ate some carmel popcorn. I couldn't help myself.

OK, today was weigh in and I went from 200 to 199.87. That's horrible. I think I have been eating right, snacking on fruits. I walked 2 days this week (3 miles each day). Hopefully next week will be better.

04/04/06 wasn't a great day for eatting, but the good news is that I didn't eat any fast foods

Breakfast- Oatmeal with fresh strawberries 8oz water
lunch- some vegi's with light sauce (carrots, tomatoes, green beans) with 4 crackers, hummus. 1 thin slice of cake, no frosting (there was a wedding shower at work, so they had a bunch of food) 20 oz of flavored water
Snack- 2 strawberry pop tarts
Snack- a chesse sandwhich of whole grain bread
dinner- 3 chicken wings a small piece of baked mosticolli 8 oz of cranberry/grape juice

I notice you're having pop tarts everytime you log this. I'm not exactly sure about this, but I think you should steer clear of them. The serving size for a pop tart is one pastry, and that alone has 210 calories plus 34g of carbs, 16g of sugars, and 7g of fat. Plus you're having two, so double all that. I don't think that's very good. You're probably eating a different brand of pop tarts than the box I checked but look into it. I don't think they'll be too healthy, especially if you're eating them as a snack.

Other than that though, you seem to be doing pretty dang good! Getting in your veggies (hardest thing for me) and you drink healthy drinks. I bet you can't wait till the next weigh in! :)

Thanks for the suggestion. My next weigh in is on 04/12/06, so I'm getting rid of the pop tarts (I threw away the box, so I'm not sure how healthy they are, but I'm going to take your word). I plan doing my 3 mile walk at least 3-4times before my next weigh in. Wish me luck :)

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do well at your weigh in. It seems like you're eating habits are getting healthier every day! Good job on drinking the water, too!

I haven't had a chance to post any of my info, I've been super busy. Anyways, today was weigh in and I'm now at 198.22 so I lost another pound :) :) :) :)

I have been trying to eat good still although last night my boyfriend ordered pizza at like 9pm. I couldn't resist, but I only had 2 small slices instead of the 4 that I would normally have. An I'm munching on an apple now and will eat some oatmeal made with reduced fat milk.

I started off good yesterday, but I think that I made a poor choice for my dinner selection. It is a slow process, but I am getting much better at it. What I try to do if I'm eatting something that I shouldn't is that I won't eat it all. I will atleast leave 1/4 of it and i love fries with ketsup, I won't eat all the fries, I will make sure that I eat only 1/2.

04/12/06
Breatfast- 1 apple and oatmeal (made with 1/2 water & 1/2 milk) 20 oz bottle of water
Lunch- 6inch sub with 8oz fruit punch juice
snack- 2 pecan rolls
dinner- chicken/bacon sandwhich with fries and lemonade
