Sport How many of you have given up soda?

Sport Fitness
i never been a big soda drinker so it was very easy to cut out soda

but i used to drink juices and punches as my water (i literally did not drink any water, i hated the taste) and somehow i turned it around a drink only water

I haven't banned anything from my diet so I can drink soda if I want but generally I don't. As I've upped my training I've found that I cope better with heavy loads if I haven't eaten any refined sugar in the few days before. This gives me the motivation to say no the sweet stuff

I gave it up at the point where counting calories put a tally on my nutrition.
My wife stopped drinking it when she saw the reults it had on me. Now, I very seldom have even 4-6oz of soda, water is fine most alla time. The wife prefers ice tea.

Only soda I will have is when I am on vacation, and that'll be caffeine free Coke with Captain Morgan.

Never soda in my house. I won't let my kids drink that garbage.

I went cold turkey at the beginning of the year. I used to drink up to 2 liters a day and never touched water. Now it's the exact opposite, I've only had water since then (and 2 glasses of red wine) and no soda. I didn't think it was that hard to quit once I put my mind to it. Now there are a few bottles sitting in our fridge outside and I haven't even thought about them. The old me would have downed them in a day.

I've given up sodas as well. The good thing about it is that when I do have it (every once a month or so) it actually tastes a lot better than when I used to have it all the time.

I gave up soda for the most part. sometime's i'll allow myself to have some but not usually. maybe mix it with vodka or i slipped and drank some at the casino last week. :)

How did most of you quit? Just cold turkey, or do you have any tips for others trying to quit?

Personally, I just quit cold turkey. That's how I quit smoking a few years back too. The thing about going cold turkey though is that you really have to prep your mind for it. It's not something you do when you wake up that morning, you have to make a conscious effort ahead of time to get ready for the day you quit.

So, if you go cold turkey, pick a day on the calendar and prep yourself for that day. Keep telling yourself that on that day you're done. Each time you have a soda, think about that day. By preparing yourself like this, you may find you cut down on sodas already. But on that day, your mind should be ready and that's half the battle.

Good luck!

I haven't completely quit soda pop, but compared to how much I used to drink, I have. It was about a year ago that I did. I think it is the key to losing weight for people who otherwise have a healthy diet and can't seem to lose weight.

After I stopped drinking so much pop, pounds started coming off. I'm definitely a bit thinner than I was a year ago. I still have more fat to lose. It's been really tough trying to lose weight during the winter, but I'm optimistic that higher temperatures and more daylight will make it easier to be active as well as easier to eat less.

I quit drinking soda back in August 2007 when I really started focusing on my diet. I went from about 18 cans a day down to zero. I have a mini fridge here in my computer room and I just looked and there are still 10 cans of vault and 2 cans of strawberry soda that were in there when I decided to quit drinking it. My work also has fridges loaded with all the pop you can drink while at work, which had helped me keep the intake high. Now I only drink water, milk and my pre/postworkout shakes/drinks.

well i used to always have a soda with pizza at school everyday almost, but then i developed ulcers in my stomach after continual abuse on the sodas and spicy foods. after that, i was basically forced to stop drinking soda and unhealthy foods because i would have HUGE sharp pains in my stomach during certain periods in the mornings. after about a month of not drinking soda, i realized that i lost the urge and joy out of drinking it. now i hardly ever drink soda, maybe on occassion if im at a friends house and theres a party or if there is absoluetley nothing else better to drink. overall, ya just try and stop for a few weeks and youll basically lose the urge to drink it.

Wow, I find it interesting how so many people talk about soda like it's a drug.

I've never really liked it. I don't like the fizziness, it hurts my mouth.

I only drink Cock 'n' Bull Ginger Ale every once in a while for several reasons.

1. It's not as carbonated as many sodas.

2. It doesn't have caffeine

3. It's made with real sugar

4. The ginger has many health benefits

5. It tastes really good...

I didn't give up soda completely, but the only time I have it is when I go to Subway every Friday for my cheat meal--I get 20 oz. of Dr. Pepper.

To help me drink more water, and to satisfy my sweet tooth, I buy small bottles of flavored liquid stevia. I buy it at our local health food store; it's called SweetLeaf. The last bottle I bought, for $13.00, was chocolate raspberry flavored. I put six drops into a large glass of ice water and drink it as if it were soda (i.e. not all at once). Zero calories and tastes great! They have several flavors. I use the cinnamon flavored one in my oatmeal (to avoid using sugar).
