Sport How many of you have given up soda?

Sport Fitness
In Dec. I decided to get healthy and completely give up soda. I used to drink atleast 2 liters of Dr. Pepper a day. That's about 850 calories and 230g of sugar I was taking in every day! So I stopped cold turkey. I had bad headaches for about week because of the caffeine.
Then about a month later I had some of my wifes coke at a movie and couldn't believe how sweet it was. It didn't even taste good. Now I carry a gallon of water with me everywhere I go to make sure I get enough water. Somtimes I'll have unsweet tea at a restaurant, but that's it.
So anybody else give up a soda addiction? How did you do it? Any tips for other people trying to give it up?

I was like you. I drank 2 liters of Coke a day, I couldn't live without it. The caffeine caused me sleeping problems, I was also feeling fatigued. Then I moved to the USA for one year, it was even worse there. There were cherry cokes and pepsi, vanilla cokes, all kinds of cokes that I never even knew that they existed, I had to drink them all. There were also other drinks I've never heard of like Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, root beer and similar.. and they were all so good.
One day I said enough is in enough and I stopped having coke.I mean I have a line or two now and then.... :D Just kidding.
I want to congratulate you for giving up soda.. it's a bad habit.
Keep up the good work, little by little try to eliminate other unhealthy meals and gradually you'll develop a healthy eating habit.

I haven't completely given it up. I still drink DP when we eat at restaurants but I have cut WAY back on soda. I use to be a major fountain drink junkie. The way I broke my habit was buying large cups of shaved ice from Sonic (one of my favorite places to get fountain drinks) and keeping it in my freezer at home and using the ice in my water. Now I prefer water to anything else b/c its refreshing.

I never really drank soda. I wasn't allowed as a kid and never really cared for it as an adult. It's one of those healthy dislikes I have! Now if I disliked beer that would be a whole different story:luxlove:

I gave it up, because I had to due to stomach problems. I never liked sugar soda but I love diet cherry pepsi. now that I haven't had it I never want it. Coffee too.

yea i gave up the reg stuff but drink diet when I consume alcohol....but have been cutting back on that as well and usually just take that stuff straight

I feel alot better not using caffeine in the morning to wake me up. I have this powdered energy drink that you mix in water. It has no sugar or calories. I drink it right before I go to the gym. It can also help with caffeine headaches if you're trying to quit.

For a while I'd occasionally have a diet, but I lost my taste for it too. I pretty much just drink water or milk.

When I quit coffee I had the caffeine withdrawal headaches

Most energy drinks have caffeine, and if they don't they've probably got sugar.

This one has no sugar. I said it had no calories, but i see it has 5. But that's not much. It has caffeine, taurine, guarana and ginseng. And I don't use it in the morning just before the gym. Is there anything wrong with Taurine?

I also have given up soda. I pretty much stick to ice water. I only drank caffeine free, so addiction wasn't too much of an issue. I don't miss it like I thought I would, and figure any little bit I could cut out is beneficial.

I thought I was having deja vu. Member at BWC huh?

I only drink fancy ginger ale once every couple of weeks.

It's made with REAL sugar. None of that nasty corn syrup stuff or toxic artificial sweeteners... :D
