Yeah, probably, since Peter's emotions dictate his abilities.

When he looses control of his emotions, he goes nuclear...I don't know about you, but I don't really loose control of my emotions at all. As I've always said: "Men feel two emotions: Angry and Horny."
 
So why didnt they just shoot Peter in the neck? He's immortal anyway.
