I really do. I'm 13 and 85 and a half pounds, but I think I look fat, and I know I feel really fat. I'm 5 foot 1. Any tips on how to lose weight really fast?

Really fast is an absolutely stupid way to lose weight...

5'1 and 85lbs is underweight.

You need to talk to your parents RIGHT NOW!!

they are the ones who feed you... and need to be aware of what your goals are.

Learning healthy eating habits and starting exercise habits at your age is good... but you need realistic goals.

Why don't you go see your school counsellor? At that weight you are pretty unhealthy, you might not be, but it would be best to go talk to someone about this. What is probably happening is that you perceive yourself to be fat when in reality you are very thin - hence being 85lbs.

At 13 5'1" and 85 pounds you are just right. My daughter is 12 she is 5'5" and about 90 pounds. Young people can be at a low weight and still be fine. an adult would look scary at the same height and weight.

If you feel pudgy at this weight it is likely poor muscle tone and/or bad posture.... pay close attention to your posture and try to make a habit out of contracting your lower stomach muscles.

The OP's about 10th percentile on the BMI-for-age chart. Her actual weight doesn't bother me, but her perception of being overweight would worry me, if she were my kid.

(Your daughter's about 5th percentile, which is about where mine is, too.)

Are you sure you are not feeling the media pressure on young girls to be thin? Your weight sounds fine to me with your height. I know a girl at work who's daughter is 5 years old and 85 pounds... THAT is an overweight child, you sound healthy to me.

Let's put it this way, what size jeans do you wear? My guess is that NOPE you are not fat or even close. Honestly I think its important that you talk to your parents about your feelings and ask them what they think you should do. Are you eating at least 3 nutritious meals a day?

I really think you should talk to someone about your problems, someone in the real world, and by that I mean a councillor, someone who can give an unbiased view [parents can be too judgemental and friends can be too kind, for example].

Do you skip breakfast and lunch intentionally because you feel fat, or is it that you forget to eat those meals? I'm no expert on the subject, far from it, but from what you've said I'd worry that you are developing a negative relationship with food that could be leading to serious mental or physical health problems.
