Ok. So, I have been working out EVERYDAY. 60 minutes of cardio and 30 ish minutes of weight lifting. I have worked out 9 days in a row and I think I gain TWO POUNDS! How is that possible! I haven't been eating more calories. I don't know what the deal is but it is making me want to throw in the towel like all my hard work has been for nothing :( See I knew I shouldn't have weighed myself for a month. Should I go to the gym twice a day from now on or what? (I am eating healthier somedays and cutting my portions other days)

Perhaps it is muscle? I've had this problem, I just stopped lifting, and instead i ran on the treadmill, Lost 7 lbs...but I've gained it all back and more :[ Going to start up again though!

That's true depending on what body type you are you can be somebody who gains muscle mass fast. A lot of people don't know that because they gain fat just as fast. For people like that who are just trying to get skinnier it's better to only stick to the cardio.

Keep up the good work

Thanks. I think you are right. I spoke to a personal trainer today and that is what he said. He is going to take my measurements and train me tomorrow so I can start tracking the inches I lose opposed to the pounds.

Hey there, thanks for responding. I do just want to get skinner but the first trainer I spoke to told me I should lift weights a few days a week to just tone so when all the fat falls off I can be super nice looking lol. I am going to cut back on the lifting from now on.

just wanted to throw in my experience lol....

i started my 123908th attempt at a new life about a month and a half ago... I was eating great and working out every day!! I'd do about an hour of cardio and then 30 minutes on the weight machines a day! Every day... & I didn't weigh myself for two weeks... well.... when I did weigh myself I had GAINED 5 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so frustrated that I just quit what I was doing all together lol.... then of course I gained 10 more lbs... but whatever

Being female you have to take a lot into consideration... if it's close to "that time" you could be simply retaining water! I try not to weigh myself so much - I mean maybe once or twice here and there because I am too focused on the number. I'm the kind of person that needs results FAST! & I'm trying to break myself of it!!

Anyway, just wanted to tell you to hang in there & Don't give up!!!

no one's gonna gain 2pds of muscle mass in 9 dys....how many calories are you consuming??

Well, with the vague information I have from the original post...

It's not muscle. 9 days and 2 lbs of muscle is insane... that trainer is an idiot or a genius (he wants your money, and has just given you "hope" on a leash).

However, it could be a ton of things... like water retention, glycogen (stored energy in the muscles for later use), or just a different time of day in weighing. 2lbs is the difference between a good week, a bad week and a nice shit.

Also, when people ramp up their exercise, they also ramp up their food intake (whether they realize it consciously or not), hunger does go up when training.

I'd say more likely you haven't given us enough information (like diet and stats) to be able to even come close to helping you out, unless of course this was just your way of venting, than I digress.

Hmmm, I don't know. Less then what I was consuming before I started working out. I have been eating healthier meals, healthy snacks, and half portions when I am not eating totally healthy. Before I started working out I just ate whatever I wanted, as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted.

Maybe you aren't eating enough... when I took in a consistent 1500 calories, I either gained a lb or didn't lose a thing. This was all from being in a deficit way larger than my body wanted. I suggest reading the Stickies in the nutrition forums, lots of good information, pretty much changed my life around.

In my experiance, when I work out - especially for the first few weeks I always gain... Always. I can count on it.
I don't really know or care why because I start to feel better and soon my body changes and I lose inches.. and eventually the lbs start to drop.

It's all about sticking with it.. day after day.
(of course I say this and I've been a slacker for awhile now.. LOL. But I didn't slack for a good 2 1/2 years when I started my journey).. :)

Just ignore the stupid scale and go by how you feel..

Of course watch what you eat, no matter how much you workout if you're pigging out on junk you're not going to see dramatic results.. But we all know that. ;) lol

Just KEEP GOING..

Hmmm... I like this Korrie chick.

You do?! She seems very mean spirited and maybe even a little bitter to me in several of her replies that I have read so far. I guess that is just her personality and I will have to get used to it but I will make sure to definitely never go to her for motivation or congratulations lol.

I will make sure to do that. Thanks a bunch for your help. This might sound stupid but I don't know how to count calories. I mean if it says it on the package then great but if it doesn't then . . . I had baked chicken for dinner last night. How many calories was that, I have NO idea. Calorie counting seems VERY tedious. . . I don't think I will like it. I am sure I will have a better understanding after I read the nutrition stickies. Thanks again.

P.S, I saw your before and after pictures and you look great! Absolutely FAB! I am sure you really know what you are talking about ;)

You are awesome, thanks so much!

It sometimes concerns me that we can be focussed so much on the numbers on the scales. It can mean different things for different people. Some people have more muscle etc.

What about measuring your body parts and watching your body shape. That would probably give you a better idea of if you are losing or where exactly on your body you are losing.

Just an idea.

Amen Sista! :)

Ok, first off, Weight loss is a subject people are super sensitive about.

I think maybe kid gloves shouldn't be used AT ALL. If people are serious about it, it shouldn't be danced around. Brutal? perhaps, but honesty gets the job done, always has.

Secondly, counting calories is a chore, at first. After that, it's like second nature. You need to buy a digital scale. Secondly, use sites like calorieking.com caloriecount.com or even fitday.com to look up calories. It's a lot easier than you think, but yes, it takes getting used to. You could have weighed your chicken raw or even baked, those sites have those listing for chicken either cooked and raw, so it's a nice approach.

Eat about your body weight x 12 to see how many calories you should be eating daily, that will help you lose weight (x 15 is to maintain your weight).

If you ever think the scale is the best approach to seeing if you lost weight, read this post by Steve. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/befo...een-almost-after-pooh-style-3.html#post367219

BTW, you are taking Korrie all wrong, she has given you solid advice with the limited information you have given us. Reading the stickies is important, you would have found the same information I have given you by just reading some of those things.
